Surnames: Peasley Peaslee Filer
I have just found it documented that Lydia Peasley married my ancestor Thomas Filer in 1799 in Stanstead, Quebec, Canada.
The book "Forests and Clearings" by Hubbard lists only
Silas Peaslee as having immigrated to the Stanstead area by 1796.
There is much information in the Lower Canada Land Petitions. Silas did come from New Hampshire, but in an April, 1795 petition he is listed as currently living in Vermont but wanting to settle in Bolton. (near Stanstead)
Other Peasley/;Peaslee individuals who applied for land grants prior to 1800 were David, Francis, John, Moses, Peter, Philip, Jonathan, and Nicholas. In addition, there was a Jedediah who was an early settler.
It becomes very unclear who may have been the father of Lydia.
In 1827, a Betsy Filer married Moses Thuston in Hatley. There are no other known Filers in the area, so I believe she must have been a daughter of Thomas and Lydia.
Can anyone add anything to this information from the Peasley family history ?
