Trying to confirm a marriage Ellen / Nellie Peberdy

HI
Would appreciate some support on this please.

1901 Census Ellen Peberdy daughter of George and Emma Peberdy - born 1889 Hathern, Leicestershire.

1911 Census cannot trace Ellen. My gut feeling is that she may have married Richard Everard Warren and have a daughter called Daisy who was 7mths at the date of Census. However, if this is true then she Ellen is now calling herself Nellie - which I do believe sometimes happens.

I look forward to hearing from anyone that may h ave the answer!. I am trying to piece together all the Peberdys working back from the 1911 Census - could take some time....
I believe Walter Peberdy did go to Australia and died in a trolley collision with a train in April 1912 near Melbourne. Walter Peberdy was described in the newspaper cutting as a married man and at the time of the accident his wife (Gertrude?) was already travelling out to join him in Australia.

Hi Sooty

If Walter went to Australia then his wife remained in England! Gertrude Peberdy nee Facer married John Orton on 25th September 1919. She was according to the marriage certificate a widow. There was one child I know of from the Peberdy's marriage - Iris Gertrude Peberdy. I can only surmise that Walter possibly died in the Great War?

Hello my name is Susan Sami (nee Groves). Today my uncle Edward Groves told me about your mother Amy Peberdy. My father John Groves was born and grew up in Guyana until the age of 21 and then moved to Trinidad where I was born.

My father (John Groves) died at age of 52 in 1984. i am trying to gather information about his days in Guyana which he very much cherished. Whenever we went to the zoo in Trinidad he would call the Alligators! which apparently one of your sisters taught him to do...do you or your sisters remember my Dad, he was son of Alfred and Rose Groves. many thanks Susan Sami
I think that Walter Peberdy was my Great Uncle and I believe he did go to Australia but I don't know much more than that. My father was Philip Storer Peberdy born in 1908 to Ethel Peberdy who was the daughter of Thomas and Annie (nee Storer). Does anybody have more information on this branch of the family?
Susan,
I know this is almost 10 years old and I don't know if anyone is still looking at this, but just in case...
First, I think you are mistaken about Elizabeth Warrington's birth date. I believe she was born in 1735, not 1765. She and John had a child John in 1765/6. Taking it further back, John's (1709) parents were John (1675-1747) and Elizabeth Roe. John's (1675) parents were William (1641-1700) and Joan Battle (1641-1717). William's father was another John Peberdy (1616-1660). That is as far as I have been able to go. If you (or anyone else) has any more on this, I'd love to hear it. Thanks
J

Hi
I would welcome any help that anyone can provide regarding the above Walter Peberdy . He was born 1887 in Leicester.
on the 1901 Census he was a Hat Packer , living with his parents (Thomas and Annie nee Storer) at 83, Beatrice Road, Leicester.
There is a chance he married a Gertrude Facer in Sep 1907- Leicester. If this is the same Walter he by 1911 was Police Constable 161 which he did for 2years 117 days ( from Leicester Records Office). After that I am not sure what happened to him. There is a suggestion that he may have gone to Australia?
Many Thanks.
Alot of Peberdys came from the Leicestershire Area but as times moves on we travel more !

He had a brother who emigrated to Adelaide, Australia. He had two sisters - one Barbara who had a long life and passed away several years ago. He had another sister who took her own life at the age of 21. No one in the family really knew the reason why.

1. The name Peabody is very variable. Peberdy is one of the variants.
2. Pepperdays for instance seem to come from Gervaise Pepperday/ Peabody, who is my Great great grandfathers brother.
3. Perhaps I could fill in some of the detail, should you be one of "our" Peabodys.
4. There was a man called Tapp who lived in the village here, (in Berkshire, UK). Sadly he died a couple of years ago.

Look forward to hearing from you

Anthony Peabody

A child was produced from this union and she is my mother, Barbara Joan Perberdy. I don't know if he even knows about my mother. Can any provide me info about him?

Thanks

Hello Doreen - have just starting hunting down the Peberdy family and think we probably have a link. My grandmother Evelyn Audrey May Peberdy (b 1907) was daughter of Samuel Peberdy (Samuel possibly his middle name - will check) and Lily Houghton who ran the Plough pub at Sutton Bonnington - wonder if thats the Aunt Lil you remember. Great Granny (Lily) lived in Sutton Bonnington until she died in about 1974 at about 95 and Grandma ('May' who incidentally married a West!) lived in Loughborough until she died in 1988. So if my reckoning is right, your father was my grandmothers cousin ... or I may be wrong!! Look forward to hearing from you!

Hi Conrad,
I can tell you a bit about my family...but only back to 1709, since I haven't accomplished more than that. My great-grandfather, Walter Peberdy (publican) 1868-1947 married to Kate Setchell (1864-1917). Walter's parents were Thomas 1827 and Elizabeth 1831. Thomas's parents were Thomas 1797 and Dororthy (Goddard) 1799. Thomas' parents were Robert 1771 (1751?) and Elizabeth Smith 1764. This Robert has a brother John (1765). And John and Robert's parents were John 1709 and Elizabeth (Warrington) 1765.
Not sure if you are incontact with Anbry26@aol.com or jfleetwood@ukonline.co.uk. Both these women are researching the Peberdy tree and intersect mine at some point. They actually provided me with the above information....I had done very little research on that branch or my family.

As for me, I live in Ontario, Canada. I actually met a daughter of an Australian Peberdy about 20 years ago (she saw my name in a company newsletter and contacted me. We lost track of each other, unfortunately.

There are not a lot of Peberdys in Canada.

Susan

Hello Ron - we may have a connection here. My dad John Ernest Peberdy was born in Hathern on 12 Dec 1905, youngest son of John George & Emma Peberdy. George was a jobbing blacksmith. Dad dies in 1981 so some of this is a bit vague & may not be in the correct order. His siblings were William m Maude c. "Billy" lived in Leeds, Yorks. George m?. Harry m. Hilda c Geoff & Joan lived in Loughborough, Leics. Nelly m (1?) m 2 ? Draycott c John lived in Hathern. Dad was a plaster pattern & mould maker. I remember going to visit an Aunt Lil at Sutton Bonington - I don't know the connection. Geoff finally lived in Normanton on Soar but has since died. We are still local and moved from Loughborough to Shepshed 27 years ago. Now it gets even more interesting! I work at a local school and one of the Vice Principal's name is Tapp and he comes from Shepshed. We are both worried now that we are related! The name William Tapp meant nothing to him. I understand Loughborough library has a microfiche of Hathern census and when I have time I shall go and look. I will let you know if I find out any more.
Regards Doreen
