My wife has Campbell Co., connections with the Turners... ... her grandmother was Sarah
Ann [TURNER] Ellison- b. 7 June 1874 TN. Recently I received back from
the funeral home, information taken from her son Jesse at the time of
her death in 1959, it mentions her father as being Harvey TURNER [this
would have be James Harvey TURNER son of John TURNER and his wife Mary
Pearce/Pierce]; and Sarah's mother as being Nancy J. [and I can't make
out the writing] but it's something like Peavily [just not sure].
This is all rather curious as John Harvey's wife was Martha Jane Moore
in all the census, however they did divorce in 1906 so from that I
gather there was some problem. I have the feeling that Nancy J.
(Peavily/Pebley/Peebly) could have been James Harvey's mistress, and
Sarah somehow knew she was her mother. A grand daughter,
still living, of Bige TURNER [Sarah's brother] said
Harvey TURNER (her grandfather) "was messing around" and had two
children by another woman". Love and Sadie. I can find no record of a
"Love" so I don't know if he or she died young, if there even was such a
person and raised by another family or what.
I did find in the 1850 and 1860 Campbell Co., Census a Nancy J. Pebley,
the daughter of Andrew and Rachel that would have been only two years
older than James Harvey. Can anyone shed any light on this?
