They are my husband's great-great grandparents. His great grandfather was Joseph Becher (m. Theresia Heueisen)...same line as Mary Albee's reply (we have communicated)

The 1870 Stark County census listed Henry as retired farmer,79 yrs. b.in Penna. He was blind and lived with son Lewis. From message board from Jim Becher:1800 census has Simon in Adams co. Penna. Simoen Pecher died i Adams County Penns.had two Children Simeon and a girl under 10.There is no verification of relation to Henry or Lewis.

My GG Grandparents, Johann and Magdalena Pecher, and their children were born in Bohemia, Austria in what is now the Czech Republic. They emigrated to Ohio in the 1800's. If you would like to correspond please reply to mary.albee@gmail.com

Hi Mary,
Johann Pecher and Magdalena Pecher are buried in the new catholic cemetery in Botkins Oh. The headstones are almost illegible... Several of the Children are buried there as well, This family used the spelling Pecher, their children changed spellings to Becher, and Becker. Their homestead still stands on Ott Rd. in Auglaize County.

We do have info on this family.

I had not been able to uncover the information that Magdalena's maiden name was Greim. Are you willing to share what you know about Johann and Magdalena--for example, census records, obituaries, family records etc.? Thank you.

Thanks for your reply. My Pecher/Becher ancestors are Johann and Magdalena from Bohemia, Austria, mentioned in the previous post. I think they settled in Shelby Co. right away, so they may or may not be related to the PA Bechers. I would be interested in any information you have if it has these two people.

I have relied on the research of others when going back this far. I begin with Simeon Becher bc 1720 in PA and married to Elizabeth. Children: John, Elizabeth Mary, Mary, and Eve.

A distant cousin seems to think our family originated in the Austria area but we have not been able to locate facts to support that. We do know they were staunch Roma CAtholics and the first name Simon keeps repeating through the generations.

Rhoda: this is a long shot, since you posted this 6 years ago. I just started researching my mother's ancestors, on her mother's side--and Mom's ggg (if I have it right) grandparents were Johann and Madgalena Pecher from, I believe, Bohemia, Austria. It goes like this:

Johann and Magdalena Pecher
son: Joseph Becher :1840
daughter: Mary Becher: 1874; married Joseph Ott
daughter: Revella Ott Sibert
daughter: Jean Sibert Walter

If you have any original documents to share, I would be so interested. I'd especially like to know more about Joseph Becher's and his wife Theresia Heueisin. And also more about the Johann and Magdalena's ancestry in Austria (for example, the town or viallage they came from.)

My Pecher family research has my ancestors living in York and Adams Cos. PA in the late 1700s. Members moved around and the name has morphed several times. I remember there were Pecher/Becher/Becker family members who went to OH but since they were not my direct line, I haven't followed up on them yet. When researching, remember how German names have a lot of sounds that spell differently in English and spelling didn't much matter back then.

My ggg grandfather and his brother left York Co PA and moved to Allegheny Co. PA. There name changed in York from Pecher to Becher and Becker. In Allegheny Co. they started as Becher, some things say Becker, and ended up as Pegher. Every Pegher you come across is descended from these 2 brothers. I can find no one in the entire world so far with that surname except those descended from Simon and David Pecher/Becher/Becker/Pegher. (and misspelled or mistranscribed in census reports as Pecker and Paher). I knew my gr grandmother was a Pegher but found documentation with other last names

My family came to the US (appears to be from Germany/Bavaria before the US Revolution) and the name has changed with every census and every move. This was my brick wall until I found that information. Now it is like a burst dam and I am just trying to put everyone in their place. There is also a Becker DNA project going on that I am trying to find a male Pegher to do for me.

The original name was Becher (or Becker or Pecher). As often happened with German names, the B became a P in some census reports and now some are Pecher and in some census reports still Becher. Then 2 brothers, Simon and David (born abt 1807) moved from Conewago, Adams Co, PA to Wexford area,outside Pittsburgh PA and the names I find for the same family members are Becker, Becher, Pecher, Pecker, Paher, Puher, and finally Pegher.

I am descended from the brother David and Martha Becher (my ggg grandparents) through their son, Simon Pegher.

If you are from the same line, you should begin looking in the Adams Co. PA area and/or Becher and Becker message boards.

I have this info that I found posted a while back and have not worked on yet but am pretty sure this is from my line too.
Note the cousins names are John Pecher and John Becher:

I don't have an exact birth location for Mary Becher, but I do know her brother George Andrew Becher was born in Crestline, Crawford Co., OH so that would be a good place to start the research.

Census records list Johanna and Magdalena being born in Bohemia Austria.

After immigration, the came almost immediately to Shelby County, Ohio.

On all census after their 1870 census, their children use the name Becher/Baker/Beecher depending on how the census taker wrote it.

I'm looking for anyone who has any info regarding Johann and Magdalena, especially their parents, or better clarification as to where they were born.

You're being too vague, that's why you don't have any responses yet. Yuo have to give at least a state where you are looking. I myself have a Pecher family from Pittsburgh PA I am searching for. My gr gr grandfather was Louis PECHER son of Aloys PECHER other children of Aloys were Emma, William, Mame, Harry Florenz. Louis was the only son that I know of who changed his name to BAKER. If this sounds like the right area or family let me know, Aloys PECHER was born abt. 1844 in Germany but was in Allegheny County, PA in 1910.

I am searching for ancestors or descendents of Aloys Pecher his wife Mary. They were both born in Germany 1844 according to the 1910 PA census. They had children Lewis, Emma, William b 1876 PA, Mame, Florenz b. 1878 PA (boy) and Harry b. 1880 PA they were in Allegheny Co, Pittsburgh in 1910 and probably before. Lewis married Matilda WAGNER and changed his last name to BAKER but as far as I know he's the only one who changed it, any help or if you connect please contact me!

Thank you. The only document I had found to date for a Mary Becher born in 1874 was the 1880 Census for a Mary Becher, age 6, who lived in Cranberry, Crawford, Ohio at that time. It gave her father's name as Mathias and her mother's name as Catharin. Both were born in "Bahmen." Apparently it is not the Mary whose parents were Joseph/Theresia...but the Crawford Ohio connection is interesting. What do you make of that?

I trace my lineage on my mother's mother's side to the Joseph Becher who married Theresia Heueisin. Their daughter, Mary Becher (1874) married my great grandfather, Joseph Ott. They lived in the Botkins, Ohio area, I believe. My mother and several of my siblings still reside nearby in Wapakoneta OH.

I've just recently gotten interested in genealogy and JUST today began searching for these Becher relatives. I'm delighted to where they came from, as rootsweb was not specific. Do you know where Mary Becher was born?
