A lost and wandering Pedersen

Hello all! I'm trying to research my mothers family, with precious little to go on. I only have some scraps to start with. Perhaps someone will recognize these Pedersens. What I know:
My grandmothers name was Thora Pedersen. She immigrated from Norway. The family was centered in New Jersey to New York City.
My mom was called "Jan" altho I know this a male name, and may be just a nickname. It's the name on my birth certificate, and says she was born in New Jersey, but I can't find her anywhere. She married Philip Voegelin sometime just before 1949, when I was born. She was born in 1920.
Thora also had 3 other children, Irene, Carol and Peder. I have info on Peder, being born 5 Aug 1929 in Brooklyn NY. He died July 2005. Carol and Irene have passed also.
When I was vey small, I do recall going to visit relatives in Vermont (Bennigton?) and they were Tullisons. I also had a relative, Louise Olsen, (Mom's cousin?)and I vaguely recall some Neilsens, (sp?). Everyone was from Norway or Denmark.
I think its gonna take me a long time to piece this together. I do have the children's spouses also. Carol married Joeseph Bodnar, Irene married Raymond Moran, and Peder, "Pete" married Ethel Menke. I thought it would be easy to find their birth certificates or marriage, and get a good start from there, but apparently not.
If any of these pieces ring a bell with anyone, please let me know. Its very important to me, as I didn't get to know any family in person.
Thank you very much.
