I see that is posting was from quite some time ago and I don't know if you are still looking. I know that on our family land in Barnwell, South Carolina there is a cemetary where that a quite a few Peeples, Miller, and I believe Owens. I wrote down a few name several years ago and snapped a few photos. Let me know if you believe that this is the same location your brother visited.

Re: William Jefferson Peeples

It is quite likely that the William Jefferson Peeples and Emily Miller I am researching is one and the same as those you are researching.

William Jefferson Peeples (b. 19 Aug 1871 in Talledga County, Alabama). First wife was Emily Elizabeth Miller (b. 25 Oct 1868). It is a long story, but it is quite possible that William Jefferson Peeples and the Tms J Peoples (as shown on the copy of marriage certificate from Shelby County, Alabama) are one and the same. William Jefferson's sisters, Ethel Jerusha and Nannie Jane both married and lived in Shelby County, AL. All three, William Jefferson Peeples, Ethel Jerusha Peeples Lemley, and Nannie Jane Peeples McConatha are burried at the Montevallo Cemetary, Shelby County, AL.

William J. later married Nina Graham in Wetumpka, Elmore County, AL, with whom he had four children, one being and my mother. Mother had a half brother and three half sisters who had lived in Selma, AL.

William J Peeples shows up in the 1900 Census as living in Columbiana, Shelby County, Alabama with his wife, Emma (age30), son William (age 7), daughters, Eula (age 4) and Bessie (age 1). They had two more daughters, Lillian Ann (b. 12 May 1903/d. Jul 1906)and Lucy Elizabeth (b. 1906). I have information on all of these, and know from first hand conversations with Bessie and Lucy that they lived in Selma at some point in time. Bessie was born in Shelby Springs, Al, which is about half way between Columbiana and Montevallo.

William Fenton Peeples, son of William J Peeples and Elizabeth Miller, World War I draft registration card dated June 5, 1917, shows him living in Selma, Dallas County, AL with his mother, wife and child as dependants.

The 1920 Census shows William F. Peeples (age 27), his wife, Nellie B. (Age 24) & son Herbert H (age 3yrs 9 mo) living in Beat 36, Selma, Dallas County, AL in January of 1920. By this time William J Peeples had married Nina Graham and was living in Tallassee, Elmore County, AL.

My records indicate that Emily Elizabeth Miller Peeples was born on 25 Oct 1868 and died on 6 Sept 1925

Several of these were closely associated with Lewis in Henry Co. Ga. ... Another tradiion seems erroneous - that William's wife was Jane Darling. Nowhere amoung the desendents of Henry or Lewis does the name Jane or Darling appear. but in the families of two of the brothers of William, Henry and Isham Sr. of Barnwall, Darling is used as a first name - many times over "

" .... five Morris boys ... One of them, Alonzo Peeples Morris, half-bro. of Henry and Lewis Peeples, had a son Samuel P. Morris, who moved to Texas "

**Note "Peebles Ante" does have a number of proven errors, but is a excellent reference anyway**

Darlings I show;

-1-Rev.
I really don't know. My brother took the picture of John's marker. It appears to be of recent vintage, so I am assuming it was erected by descendents in South Carolina. The cemetery is well cared for which indicates at least some Peeples' descendents still live in the Varnville area.

I've traced the PEEPLES line descending from George W Peoples (abt1813-1854) marr. Margaret E Alexander (1817-1876). Margaret Alexander Peeples was my GGG Aunt; she was a sister of my GG grandfather Charles Alexander of Sonoma Co CA.

I have Margaret's photo to share and also a photo or two of her son Harris A Peeples (1839-?) marr. Sarah Cureton.

Harris's brother Edward T (1836-?) married Catherine Crispin in Charles Alexander's home in 1870. Another brother Eugene Peeples (1845-1929) married Frances Bradley. And I believe a sister Emma A Peeples (1853-1933) married David Gill.

Are you a direct descendant? My research is primarily in the ALEXANDER line.

-Byron

Thank you so much, the dates of their children and the photos are a terrific addition. My father in law has the Peeples book by Ann Bradberry Peeples... It says that John Peeples was buried in a unmarked grave. He thinks there was a woodened marked for his grave, do you happen to know if that was the case and if that is a newly added tomb stone for him?
Again Thank you for the information and the photos, they are great..

Diane
