Peet from VA

I am trying to locate the relatives of John (1810) and Joanna (1830) both of VA. They have five children that I know of named Bradley (1853), Jeithy (1850), Philip (1852), Sally (1857) and Samuel (1860). The dates are all an approximation. All of the children were born in TN in Tipton County. I have not found any descendants for Jeithy, Sally or Samuel. I have found census records with a variation of the name. The name is currently spelled Peete and any information would be appreciated. Please contact me at tamblyn_jones@yahoo.com

Lydia's also in the 1850 French Creek, NY census with parents - she's listed as age 13.

Do you have any idea where they are buried? I can't find them in French Creek cemetery records on the web but only checked the Chautauqua Co., NY on USWEBGen. If you don't know that's OK, just thought I would ask.

I appreciate your helping me with your Peet information so much. A great big thank you again.

I just found Lydia's parents - they are in the 1860 French Creek, Chautauqua Co., NY federal census and were Lewis & Harriet (Huling) Canfield. She was listed as age 20, b: NY.

I love this electronic age!

Thanks again.

WV sticks up there between PA and OH, so I'm wondering if some of her people might have gone to OH, like mine did. Rhoda Willison married Noah Whitehouse Coffman in 1830 in OH. She is my brick wall, because I have no idea who her people were or where they lived before they moved to OH. I think she and Noah were both born in OH. Noah's people came from the Shenandoah Valley before he was born into Licking Co., OH.
Iris grandmairis1@yahoo.com

Hello,

I'm looking for the parents and siblings of Ebenezer Peet who appeared in the 1800 census in Kent, Litchfield County, CT on p. 97, with one male 26-45, two males under 10, one female 16-26, and one female under 10.

Adjacent to his name was Samuel Peet, probably Samuel Peet Jr., with one male 16-26, two males under 10, and one female 10-16.

Ebenezer owned half of a dwelling house as of October 1, 1798, and a Samuel Peet Jr. owned the other half. Might they have been brothers? I'm trying to determine their relationship.

Who is the father of Ebenezer Peet?

Many thanks,
Judi Watson

Re: Ebenezer Peet & Samuel Peet Jr., Kent, CT, 1800 census

Dear Terry,

Thank you, that's enormously helpful -- it answers more questions than I had included in my posting!

As of October 1, 1798, there was also a property owner in Kent named Samuel W. Peet, who owned 69.5 acres but no dwelling house. That must have been your #326, Samuel Wildman Peet, the father of the Ebenezer and Samuel I'm looking for.

From the October 1, 1798 1798 federal Direct Tax data, it appears that his sons Samuel Jr. and Ebenezer lived in a one dwelling house that they jointly owned (50% each). The dwelling was a one story house 34 x 15, and it had an adjoining kitchen of 22 x 22 (an "ell" or "lean-to"). The two sons co-owned 35.25 acres as well.

Could you please post (or send me at Judi.Watson at gmail.com) the listing for your #701, Samuel Peet b 25 Sept 1774?

Thanks so much for your help, and for giving me the citations where additional information can be found!

Judi

Okay Wes I answered my own question. John Peet had two sons 1)Benjamin and 2)John. How does Benjamin, Thomas, Josiah, Abijah, Philo, Abijah, William J relate to Benjamin and John? Were there two Abijahs? It doesn't seem like these people could be Edward S. parents. The timeline wouldn't work out. It would appear that Edward S. was maybe the 7th or 8th generation from John Peet 1597-1684. Edward S. was born 1872 in New Jersey and died De. 21st 1942 in Glen Cove Long Island.

Arden J/Ardie J and Millie Clark Peet

I am looking for anyone with information on Arden J/Ardie J Peet and his wife Millie Clark Peet. I have found them in the 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 Census living in Allegan County, Valley Township, Michigan. It looks like they had 4 children: Clark Arden, George Jonas, David J, and Ardie W. His parents were living with them in 1900, George and Mary J Peet and she was living with her parents Jonas and Martha Clark in 1920 and 1930. Arden must have died between 1910 and 1920.
I am related to Millie's Clark family.

Thank you,
Pat Clark Townsend

Peet - Gabbitas, Newark Nottinghamshire 1800s
Researching the lineage of Dennis Gabbitas Peet b.1872 in Newark Nottinghamshire to Joseph Peet and Elizabeth, surname unknown - though I believe it may be Gabbitas. Or, the father's (Joseph) mother was a Gabbitas...
He was in the Boar War and a journalist in Newark. Cannot find his death date or location...

Census found for 1881, Newark, Nottinghamshire living at 13 Regent Street for: Joseph b 1841,Newark; Elizabeth (maiden name?), b. 1837, Sutton On Trent, Nottinghamshire; Dennis G, b. 1872, Newark Nottinghamshire and sibling Richard b 1875 in Newark.

Any help appreciated

Hello - thanks for the reply!

your spelling out in black and white what i had looked at but not actually Seen helped me alot!

Elizabeth is indeed Elizabeth Talbot, who married Joseph Peet, Dennis Gabbitas Peet's father.
The 'daughter in law' was her daughter (in law was usually used for step then), and from another census was listed a niece who was a Talbot which suggested there was a family connection. I followed it along and found the whole Talbot family including where the Gabbitas name came from (The grandmother was a Gabbitas).

Still searching for Dennis G's date and place of death... and of course any information anyone has on the family in general.

thanks again!

Re: Peets in Ny and Ct.

The names listed are successive generations. So Benjamin would be the son of John, Benjamin would be the son of Benjamin, Thomas would be the son on Benjamin, Josiah would be the son of Thomas etc. This would make William J. Peet the ninth generation, Edward S. Peet the 10th generation etc. This would make you the 13th generation by my count.

In Terry's book Edward S. Peet's birthdate is listed as bc 1874 which means about 1874. I believe Terry would like to get this further information on this branch of the family for inclusion in his database. Hopefuly he will respond to your query.

Wes

Re: Peet family from Anamosa, IA

It appears the two Robert Peets you were refer to are actually descended from Gideon Peet's son James Melvin Peet. The Great Grandfather you refer to is probably Robert Melvin Peet who was born in New York but came with his parents to the Anamosa area in 1839. The Great Uncle is probably Robert Melvin Peet who was born in Fairview, Iowa 1902 and died in Anamosa in 1985.

Are you looking for additional information on your ancestors?

Wes Peet
