I'm not sure my Martin ties in yet. If I find a tie in will email back. I think my folks are coming in earlier, but Francesca Pekárek married Frank Novotny in 1869 in Manhattan, and he was a mason or brick mason, so it wouldn't surprise me if he moved to Chicago. Thanks Karen

Thanks Frank, my email addy is bigunn52@att.net.I went looking at a map and found a town close with a "v":posted instead of a "w" but really have no idea. My Karel family comes from Nadrib back in 1860's when Wenzl Karel came over as a cigarmaker to NYC, New York, settled in Manhattan later in Queens in the Woodside area of town.Antoine Pekárek Karel was a cigarmaket as well. Thanks for your information. It is much appreciated. Karen

If you would like to email me directly, I can connect you with a website that may help you find where Wilkewic and Podicbrad are located. I think there are rules about not posting fee-for-service websites on this message board, and while the website I have in mind does, the owner provided assistance to me at no charge. The spelling of towns often changes over time. I had a copy of a passport from 1883 and he was able to decipher it and give me the correct spelling and location. That was a major breakthrough for me. The Czech Republic encompasses much of what was Bohemia. If you can nail down the town it should be easy to identify the parish, and you can access many church records directly through online archives in the Czech Republic at no charge. So great. I was able to visit and find the exact homes where ancestors were born based on the baptism records I found. Jean - jpekarek(at)hotmail.com

,
My Pekarek's are all out of New York City.
My second gg mother Antonia (Antoinette) "Nettie" Pekarek, immigrated to the US on Jan 16, 1872 from Bremen on the ship Donau. She was age 17 at the time. (b.8 Sept 1854 in Bohemia, died 3 April 1940 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
Sometime between 1872-1874 she married Waclar "William" Karel, a cigarmaker from Nadrib (now Nadryby), Bohemia.
She resided at 286 Second Street in New York City in the 1900 Census.
Her father's name is listed as Anton Pekarek on her death certificate.
In 1880 my 2 gg mother Antonia(Antoinette) "Nettie" (Pekarek) Karel is living with her husband William Kral at 172 Third Avenue # 217 in NYC, with two children, Antoinette Karela b. 1875 and Ruderic Karel born in 1879.
On my 2 gg mother's passenger listing is germany for place of origin..no birthplace listed. Looks like now I try church records to see if her birth place can be located.
In 1900, "Nettie my 2 gg mother is listed as living at 286 Second Street, and had a total of 5 children.
They are,my great grandmother, Antoinette "Annie" (Anna) Karela b. 1875 at 286 Second Street. In 1895 my gg mother married Jacob Dippel.
By 1900 Nettie has William, Fred and Nettie left (children) in her family.
Right next door at 172 Third Avenue in the same 1880 US census is listed Frank Novotny with is wife "Katie", and children, Lois, Barbara, Sophia and Anton.
Katie's maiden name is Pekarek. On the return of a marriage record dated 14th of June 1869 Katie's first name is listed as Francisca Pekarek residing at 256 4th Street, and age 25. Her place of birth is listed as Wilkewic, Bohemia and her father is listed as Martin Pekarek.
I think that my 2 gg mother Antonia "nettie" Pekarek was related to Francisa Pekarek as they lived next door to each other but the father's name is different.
I find it interesting though that Frank and Francisca (Pekarek) Novotny named their son Anton, which is the same name that Nettie's son William Karel listed on her death certificate as her father.
Does anyone know where Wilkowic Bohemia is?
Is the first name of Ruderic a nickname for William?
Frank Novotny Francisca Pekarek's husband was a Mason by trade and from Podicbrad, Bohemia just a afternote.
Does anyone know exactly what churches are listed near 286 Second Street? She was roman catholic. thanks karen

There is a marriage of Frank NOVOTNY married to Franchiska PEKÁREK in New York City in Manhattan Borough, who's parents listed were Martin Pekárek and I think Marie Novak..will have to send another message. Anyway, they lived at 290 East Second St in Manhattan, right next door to my gr,gr grandmother Antoine Pekarek Karel who resided at 286 East Second Street next door to Frank and Franciska.
if there is a connection, this would be wonderful. If you know of a good researcher in the cz republic, please let me know You can reach me at bigunn52@att.net. thank you. Kare

Looking for information on the following people:
Fred Karel, born Feb 1882, son of "Antonia" (Antoinette) maiden name Pekarek. He is listed on the 1900 census. His mother Antonia Pekarek came to this country on 16 Jan 1872 on the ship Donau at the age of 17.
She is listed on the ship's passenger listing as a 'farmer".
Antonia's nickname was "Nettie" and she was widowed by 1890. Her husband was William Karel (known as Waclar or Waclen Wenzel, Wencel, William, Karela-Karel) from Nadrib, Bohemia. The town Nadrib is now Nadryby in North Pilsen, Bohemia in cz rep.
Antonia had 5 children:
I only have listed 4 children:
1.Anna or Annie, my gg mother, born in 1875, married Jacob Dippel in NYC . Anna (Karel) Dippel died in 1952 buried at Calvary Cemetery in Woodside, Queens, NY.

2. Ruderic Karel.. b.? have nothing on him. He is listed in the 1880 census. I can't find a birth certificate on this guy.
Died?

3. William Karel, son of William Karel and Antonia Karel. In 1930 is at 71-11 Woodside Avenue in Queens Borough.
His mother Antonia, mother of Fred, Anna, Nettie (age 20 in 1880 census born Apr 1880), was born Sep 8, 1854 in Bohemia and died at her son's home at 71-11 Woodside Avenue in Queens. Antonia is buried at Eveergreen Cemetery.
Antonia's father is Anton Pekarek.

4. Nettie Karel, born in 1880 don't know a thing about her.

5. Fred Karel is listed on the 1910 census, age 28 with wife Louisa age 21 and only married one year as of April 19, 1910 when the census was taken. Antonio (Antonia) his mother was age 54 then and living with the couple at 1637-24 Avenue A in Manhattan at the time. Fred is listed as a Railroad Engineer in the 1910 Census for NYC.
I'm taking a guess that Fred and Louisa had a son named Fred born on 20 Sep 1909 in NYC, died perhaps on 28 mar 1991 in Allendale, Michigan.
Anyone out there related to any of these folks?
thanks karen
I don't know of any connection between your Martin Pekarek and my Pekarek relatives. I tried to find Corcovec on a map to see if Katherin Petras lived in the vicinity of my relatives but couldn't find it anywhere. Perhaps the name has been changed or mispelled along the way. Have you been able to locate Corcovec? If you have, you may be able to find the name of the parish and then possibly, the parish records.

This website for the Trebon archive in the Czech Republic has digitized records for South Bohemia by parish. http://digi.ceskearchivy.cz/index_main.php?doctree=1n&la...

There may also be digital archives for other areas of Bohemia. I just haven't looked into it since my family was from the Trebon region. The records are photocopies of the actual church books and can be difficult to read because they are handwritten in the old script and of course aren't in English. Though once you see the family name you will easily recognize it in other places. You should be able to find people if you know the year and location of birth, death or marriage. I found several of my ancestors this way.

You may have experience with this but if you don't and have questions, I am happy to answer any I can. If you are interested, I can also refer you to a genealogist who lives in the Czech Republic and does research and/or translation (German and Czech) for a very reasonable rate. I connected with him just before I traveled to the Czech Republic then met him there and he was very helpful.

I do more research as time allows. If I ever come across someone who may be your Martin Pekarek or Katharin Petras, I will contact you.

Frank Pekarek born in St. Louis about 1905

I am looking for descendants of a Frank L Pekarek who was born in St. Louis, Missouri about 1905. His father was Frank W. Frank W was born in 1878 in Bohemia about 60 miles from Prague. He immigrated to the US with his parents and siblings in 1882. Frank W married Marie Bourgeois and they had 2 children: Frank L and Marie. I recently found church records in the Czech Republic and traveled to the villages where this line of Pekarek's lived. I am also looking for descendants of Charles Pekarek, brother of Frank L. Charles was born in St. Louis in 1886, married a woman Annie who was previously married to a Bauer. Annie had 2 chldren with her first husband and one child with Charles Pekarek. Her name was Anna and she was born about 1912. It was quite challenging to connect the family to the Czech Republic and I would like to share the records I have found with any interested descendants. I can be reached through this post or directly at jpekarek@hotmail.com

I am related to Matthias/Matthew/Michael Pekarek who immigrated with his parents William and Mary, his sister Anna, and his brothers Joseph and Frank in 1883 from Bohemia. They lived in St. Louis. Frank married Marie Bourgeois and had two children, Frank L and Marie. Frank L was born about 1905. William and Mary had another son, Charles after they immigrated to the US. I recently traveled to the Czech Republic and located baptism, marriage and death records for this family. I am happy to share if this is your family.
J Pekarek

Christie

Did you find your ancestors on 1930 census? If yes, does it say Na-naturalized, Al-alien or Pa-first?
If naturalized, did you try to locate the naturalization petition? If not and lived passed 1940 than look for an alien registration form. Your male ancestor should have filled out a draft registration form. You need to locate a precise place of birth to proceed with the research.

He resided with my great grandmother and her family in Chicago, IL. as stated in the 1920 US Federal Census. Please let me know if this is the person you are looking for as this would greatly help my research efforts as I really need to find the parents of my great grandmother.
Thank you and good luck with your research!

Carrie (your great grandmother) is my great-grandfather's (Joseph Pekarek) sister. Their other siblings include: Emma, Frank, Aloies, James, Vaclav, Rosa and Anna.
Frank was born 1845 and died 1889. Frantiska was born in Moravia on the 24th of Febuary. She died April 15th, 1918 in Touhy, Nebraska. She is buried at St. Vitus Cemetary in Touhy (Saunders County) Nebraska. Try a search engine and type her info in with the cemetary and State.
I am looking for the ancestors of Edward Pekarek who I believe was born in Bohemia (Austria, Germany?) Date of birth would be around 1900 + or -. I believe his father's name is Wencel Pekarek and mother's maiden name Kahabka. They may have lived in Rechlinhausen, Germany. I know very little about Edward except that in the early 1940s he was living in Kansas City, MO. At that time he was married to a woman named Carmel. They may have divorced later on, but not sure.
My father is the son of Edward Pekarek born in 1896, his name is George F. Pekarek. My name is Christopher Pekare, son of George. Do you have any information regarding what part of Bohemia Martin came from?

Pekarek - Bohemia

I am researching Martin Pekarek. He was born on Feb 1851 in Bohemia and died 29 Dec 1924 in Chicago, Illinios. He married Katherina Petras in 1876 who was from Corcovec, Bohemia. They immigrated to the US in 1887 or 1888 with 4 children, Martin (26 Dec 1877 - 12 Jan 1932), Charlie, (b Jun 1882), James, (b May 1885), and Frank (b Jun 1887). They had 4 more children in Chicago, Annie (b Nov 1888), Bessie, (b Jan 1892), Robert, (b Mar 1894), and Edward, (b Apr 1896).

I can probably help because my Pekarek's were
from Cicero and I think I have a list of
obituaries of Pekareks that I will look into.
However, I won't have time to research until
Sunday. Wendy

Pekarek

Susie,

There is or at least was a Bohemian Newspaper that was written for the large population of Bohemians that settled in the Chicago/Cicero area. The newspaper printed obituaries and most Bohemians used this newspaper rather that the Chicago Tribune to post information of deaths. You can look the information up for free at the Chicago Library but I found a man who is willing to do a look up for $4.00. It's not worth the gas to go to Chicago for $4.00 not to mention the time involved. I think he sent me a list of Pekarek names once and I'll have to look harder for it this weekend. Please feel free to e-mail me at camwilde@netscape.net and we can communicate easier. I am from Illinois and my father was a Cicero Bohemian, so I am familiar with the area. Wendy Wilde
