One census gives his birthplace as Canada, another gives Germany!
Pierre first shows up in Dubuque IA in July of 1847. This is when he married Catherine Cassidy, an Irish woman.
All of their children were born in IA or, depending on state lines at the time, WI or ILL!

The family migrated to Union Co. SD in the mid 1860's, where Pierre and Catherine died.
Their surnamed was changed to PELROY.
Have been trying to find the exact birthplace and parents of Pierre for several years. Too difficult to pin point!
Family lore has it that his Mother may have been an Indian.
However, there are so many tribes....the possibilities are endless!
