Hey Kathy,
I've been trying to get a hold of you for awhile now. You have a lot of knowledge about the cartwright family. I looked at all the other posts you made and the surnames you were searching, and most of them fit with my side of the family, aka my ancestors. Richard Halbert Cartwright is my 4x great grandfather, and I am decended from his second child Henry. I'm curious which child you are decended from, as well as more information about your side of the family.

Death of Colbert Pembrook

Appears in the Terrell Times-Star, Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas, 26 June 1891...

An Unholy Love

Nocona,Montague County, Texas, June 21 - This morning Bill Pinkerton shot and killed Colbert Pembrook at Bonite, seven miles east of this place Pinkerton on the day before loaded a double-barrel shotgun with nails and stated to a boy that he had a settlement to make with parties and might need it.

This morning he entered the kitchen and insulted Mrs. Penbrook and upon her resisting him he went out to the house lot and got the shotgun and fired at Mr. Pembrook, the slugs entering his neck and killing him instantly. Pinkerton escaped and went to St. Joe, where he attempted to commit suicide by taking morphine, but medical aid saved the young man from death. He was arrested byu Deputy Sheriff George HJoward and is now behind the bars at Montague.

He stated to Mr. Howard that he was desperately in love with Pembrook's wife; which seems to have led him to the fit of passion in which he committed the awful deed. Mr. Penbrook was a prominent citizen and there is much indignation over the affair.

Pinkerton has a bad name and expressed fears of being lynched. He was a nephew of Mr. Penbrook.

Re: Mary Pembrook married William Carpenter in Philadelphia

We have traced the Carpenter family and found that Mary Pembroke (born in Kilkenny Ireland) married William Henry Carpenter (born in Phila) in 1860 in Philadelphia. Some of the baptismal records show a James Pembroke as a godfather and census records show that James Pembroke lived on the same street as the Carpenters. However, we cannot find if they had the same parents, although we assume that Mary and James were siblings, we have no proof. James' death record shows his father was Edward. But Mary's death record, a few years earlier does not have that information. Also, should we find any descendents, we would be happy to share the information we have. Thank you so much for replying.

Hello,

I'm pleased to receive your post. Edith was my second cousin. Never married, she faithfully kept records of my paternal 'roots'. In 1962, we heard that she was donating some family heirlooms (mostly, hand-work)to a historical society. I've been unable to determine which one. Edith had a brother named 'Roy'. I think he lived in MN I'm curious as to which relatives she might have had in Lincoln. Do you know which year she might have retired from teaching? Memories that you might be willing to share with me would really be appreciated. You can contact me directly at lois@streimer.com

Thank you...

Am Looking for any information about Harriet and or her family. She had 7 children with Richard and I know nothing about her marriage with Mathias As far as I know she was from Berkshire England and was born in march of 1825. Family ledgend has it that she was the daughter of the stable hand and kithen worker of Lord Cartwright and his son Richard fell in love with her. When Lord Cartwright found out about it he had her family deported to America in the middle of the night. Some how Richard found out about it and managed to row out to the boat before it sailed and came to America with them. At that time She was very young about 11 and he was about 10 years older that she was. They lived in North Royalton Ohio Just south of Cleveland. That is the extent of what I know about her
