Has anyone found a connection between the Pendarvis and Sturkie family from SC. 10% Sub-/sahara Arfican DNA has shown up in the Corley family. It was thought that Brand Pendarvis married a Jeffcoat. But I can't find any information on that.
I have notes that James J. Pendarvis, age 53, born abt 1887 lived with his brother Frances M. Pendarvis, age 27. At this time Frances is divorced and James is married.
Both men were born in Florida. Their Father was born in Florida and their mother S.C. Howard Wells, nephew, lives with them and also Edgar WElls, age 38, guest, lives with them. Delila M. Pendarvis lives next door to them and she is listed as head of household. She is 38 years old. James Jr. Pendarvis, son, age 18, lives with her. Roscoe Bayaird, age 2 and 8 months, also lives with her.
This would be the 1930 Levy County Census, according to note

My ancestor was William PENDARVIS b. 1786 SC and died about 1848 in Nassau County, Florida. I think he and George Pendarvis b. 1791 and lived in Duval County, Florida may have been brothers. They spent some time in Glynn County Georgia after moving from SC. I am still trying to prove the father/parents of my William. Can anyone help at all?

Hi--Daniel Pinckney Pendarvis' parents were Harmon L Pendarvis and Rachel Jane Knight--the tombstone is Daniel Pinckney Pendarvis' of St. George area--just as the previous person replied. Harmon L was the son of James and Zibley Pendarvis who moved to Alachua Co., FL in the 1850's. Some people get confused because an earlier James Pendarvis (only about 10 years older) had been in Alachua County for about 30 years before. Rachel Jane Knight's parents were Reuben Knight and Mary Hutto.

I don't remember his first wife's name.

I knew of no family reunion in Orangeburg, I wish I did. I would have found a way to make that. I am really curious about my family there. I lived in DC but now reside in Maryland. There are loads of family here in this area.

Now he was older than your Camlin so I am not sure about the relationship, but note he is living with a female Jamison. There was a jamison family on the 1920 census page near your Camlin. I am attaching the page.

Looking at the original page of the 1920 census Camlin and Ella are living next to an elderly woman by the name of Leda Williams she was 71 and widowed. She could have been the mother of Ella. Always possible when there is an elderly person right next door that fits the age. Just a thing to keep in mind. Often persons on the census page were related. I am trying to post the census page here. I hope it works for you.

....And another thread from a Francis Pendarvis. I don't see his name listed in the children on the list you gave me but who knows. This guy doesn't know much either. Apparently there is indian mixed in there also. If that is the case, this just became harder.

Hello everyone.

I just wanted to take this time to begin my search for my family roots. I was born Francis Franklin Pendarvis Jr. My father, Francis Franklin Pendarvis (Sr.) was born on April 10th, 1920 in Orangeburg SC. His parents were Camlin Pendarvis, who apparently died in 1950 at the age of about 68 in Orangeburg, and Ella (don't know her maiden name). Unfortunately, I can't seem to find who Camlin's (my grandfather) parents were. Apparently, Pendarvis was a well known family in the Orangeburg area from what I have read up on so far. However, even though I see a lot of Pendarvis history in the area, I can't seem to fill in this gap of Camlin's parents. I remember my father always told me that his father (Camlin) was part Cherokee, with his(Camlin's) father being full-blooded Cherokee. However, I just don't see how the Pendarvis name could have been carried down to me if my great grandfather was Indian because the Pendarvis family was distinctly a white/black mix (I am assuming!
that since we are african american, that we come from the Parthea line of "black" Pendarvises). Hopefully someone can help me and show me where I may be going wrong or help me fill in the blanks. I am thinking that perhaps Camlin's mother was a Pendarvis and his father may have been the Cherokee, yet they decided to keep the Pendarvis name for the child (Camlin). This is only a theory, however. Sadly, my father is no longer alive to try and solve this mystery. Can anyone help? By the way, I go by the name Farooq and perhaps I may even have family out there somewhere. Thanks to all.
