re Pender
sorry it has taken so long for me to follow up. Niagara Square is the center of downtown Buffalo now....AT 1900, I am sure there was some tenement housing as well.....I will keep this in mind the next time I find a Buffalo City Directory...would tell us what is there

Although my relatives came earlier.....1846 ish. they names intrique me......especially Martin we had a Mark Leo who sadly committed suicide during the great depression BUT his true name was Mark Leo....also had Marys the odd name is Patrick BUT I keep stumbling across the name in research.....I feel badly as I was in County Carlow a few years ago but the librarian seemed uninterested i helping me with my research.....I was willing to accept hat the relatives were poor etc. but she was not helpful at all.. ( I am a librarian so it was doubly difficult!!)The parent sof my relatives were Charles and Mary Pender but they must be so poor they disappeared from all Irish records.
Kathy Pender Breuer

This one married Faun Hall b. 10-16-1917 and d. 11-10-1987. I am looking for information on this family for my sister.

My Pender line was in the USA Thomas and James circa 1850 and I have lots of documentation here....but I have no idea where in Ireland they came from being told Clare, Galway etc. , knowing only they were farmers and dirt poor....vowed never to farm again....The father would have been Charles....I have no idea who the brothers and sisters left behind were It is almost like the ages of your group do not jive.....my grandfather was born here in 1879...unless they are cousins ...

my son just arrived from North Carolina so I will have to give this some thought later.

I have been told the name is somewhat odd and that the Irish rarely traveled more than 50 miles

I will be in touch.

Kathy Pender Breuer

Hi, I am trying to trace Penders who moved to Buffalo New York from County Clare Ireland. As you say you have been tracing Penders for a while what other Penders have you come up with. The ones I am looking for are:
Pat Pender b.1884 emigrated to Buffalo, NY in 1903 with his sister Mary Pender b.1885. Their residence address on the NY passenger listed was given as 10 Niagara Square staying with someone called Coughland. I don't know what 10 Niagara Square was i.e. residential/employer etc. If anyone can throw any light on that address in 1903 and who was living there would be helpful.

They were joined by their brothers Martin b. 1894 and James b. 1896 again heading to Buffalo, NY. I can't find any other information on the records for them only the passenger lists which stated when and where they came in. None of them returned to Ireland so all would have died in America.

Thanks.

Pender Co Clare

Hi I am trying to trace any living relatives of Pender relatives who went to live in America after 1901. They were all born in Cahermurphy, Kilmihil, Co Clare Ireland. My grandmother was called Delia Pender, she was born in 1897 in a place called Cahermurphy, Kilmihil, Co Clare, Ireland. Her father was Michael Pender who was born in 1851 and her mother was Kathern (Katherine) who was born in 1858. Several of their children went to live in America (one of whom went via Canada or settled in Canada as it was cheaper in those days). These are the people I am looking for:

Pat Pender - born 1884
Mary Pender - born 1885
John Pender - born 1887
Martin Pender - born 1894
James Pender - born 1896
Sinon Pender - born 1900/1901

The 3 siblings who stayed behind were:

Ned Pender - born 1891
Delia Pender - born 1897 (my grandmother)
Thomas Pender - born 1899.

If people are looking for Pender names by the way there were several families living in Cahermurphy Co Clare as per the 1901 Irish census.

Many thanks.

Thank you for that information. We are related. My grandmother was your grandmother's sister. Would you or your father have any information on your grandmother's family? Do you think I could call your father to ask a few questions. Unfortunately, my grandmother died in childbirth in 1924 and I know very little about her family, the Higgins Family. I would like information about Lillian's parents and her siblings. They originally lived in Brooklyn and then moved to White Plains. But that is all I now.
I appreciate any information you can provide.
Thanks, Phil Gilligan

Hello, Saw your post on Ancestry and thought I would drop a line. Melvina was Laura Melvina Pender. Daughter of Col. Lewis Pender b.1818 d. 1871 She was married first to Josiah S. Pender (her cousin)and they had 8 children. I have no information about her marriage to Capt. Charles Betts Cook.

Thought we may like to stay in touch. I have a great deal on the Penders that came before Laura and a real good story about her. My aunt is Gracie McBryde who sold Oak Grove to the Wilsons. I visited Oak Grove many times way back when Eliza Gray owned it. Laura Melvina's portrait hung in that home till my Aunt sold it. At that time she donated all the pictures to the Pender museum in Tarboro.

The oldest Pender I have is Paul b. 1683 Bertie County and d.1748. Do you know who his parents were and where they came from?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Betty MacBryde Barkley b. 1944 :)

Hi, John, nice to "meet" you. Thanks for the info on Edna. I would be interested in more data on the John James Pender line. As you might be able to tell from one of the earlier posts on this thread, I have 6 children for John J. In addition to Edna, I have Harry, Donald, Frank W., Gladys and Dorothy. I also have John J as son of William Pender & Elizabeth (Betsy) McClelland. William was son of John Pender & Sarah Hall. Does this match what you have, or have I mixed up Penders somewhere? You can reach me directly at amysf@pacbell.net

Francis John Newton Pender b. 1893, Parry Sound

Interested in info on Francis "Frank" John Newton. I believe his original name was Pender and was adopted by the Newton family, possibly a Peter & Marg (from the 1901 census). I believe he was born feb 1893 in the Parry Sound area. His grave marker is in Foley, ON which has reference to " Newton". Possible adoption date would be 1895 or later as this is when his birth mother died. Any info would help.
Thanks
Julie
You didn't upset me, I was just shocked that someone was looking for my dad. I had an Uncle Jack and Uncle Fred. My father had 13 brothers and sisters...can't remember all their names. I'm Millard's youngest daughter. I have one living brother Mike, my oldest brother John passed away in '88. I'll be 52 in a few days, have 3 children and 6 grandchildren. I am interested to see our connection and whatever information you have found. When I was little we had "Pender 4th of July" family reunions. They had me when they were in their 40's so I don't know much of the extended family. My dad was Chief of Police of Waterford, MI in the 50's and 60's...you may be able to find more info through my brother Mike. he lives in TN. Mike and Pat Pender. Looking forward to talking more. I can tell you more if needed.

I do hope I have not upset you.
I am the widow of William Ferrell Pender who was born on his father's farm about 3 miles east of Dongola, IL. to: Warner Edgar "Jack" Pender & Mamie Gladys (Karraker) Pender. They had two sons: 1. Forrest Delbert Pender who married Launda L. (Keller) and 2. Ferrell as he was called by family members. "Jack" was a game warden in Union County during the Green Administration. He also owned a grocery store with his son Forrest in Dongola, until 1971, when they closed the store and moved to Centralia. He owns a Farm Fresh store on South Poplar Street in Centralia. His son Mike runs the store with his daughters. I am trying to put the family together. I have connected the Pender's at Alto Pass and feel sure that your related in some way. Hope to hear from you. Sincerely, Sandy Pender.
In searching for information on my relatives I ran accross a question about the surname Valentine and its relation to the Pender family. Lynn H. Valintine born Jan 7 1897 and died Feb. 10 1983 was the husband of Edna Pender one of three daughters of John James Pender (7-13-1862 to
6-30-1955. She was my aunt.
John R. Pender
Just sent a partial e-mail by mistake. Balance as follows
Jeremiah C. Pender, born May 25, 1850 in Indiana, Died Feb. 25, 1935 in Liberty, Clay County, Missouri. We've run into the same problems everyone else has in trying to match Thomas's children to those in Indiana and Iowa. Don't know what happened to he & his wife after the 1840 census. Have tried to check to see if there were any epidemics (flu, measles, typhoid, etc.) but no luck. Did find that both Jeremiah and William Harvey served in the Mexican American War--both apparently survived. William Harvey was mustered out in New Orleans in 1847.
Anything you have found since your last posting would be of interest. Also have you found any evidence of Native American Connections in your searches?
