Did George Hisaw have a daughter named Clarissa, born in 1851 in Alabama? If so she is my great-grandmother who married my great grandfather, Albert Bodiford in 1873. Clarissa died in 1930 but I not sure just where.

I am looking for information on a George Hisaw that migrated to Texas from Alabama and had a daughter named Clarissa that married my great grandfather, Albert Bodiford.

We are connected through Mary Boucher (Lemuel Currey Boucher is her father) Mary Boucher married a Franklin Leander Dupree before Pendley. We know she had Ethel and assume she is a daughter. I too have a picture and a letter from Mary! Ethel married an Emmerson. There was also another of Mary's daughters, Rosie Lee Dupree that is in my tree. She married a John McKiever King (Father Robt. A. King) I know my mom help Mary with her laundry business when she was a widow. There is also a Lemuel "Lem"
Dupree maybe a son. Let me know if you make progress.

Could you please ask your grandmother if there is anything in the book on Benjamin Jasper Pendley, which would have been the son of Bennett Pendley and Penetor or Pernetta Ellen Hisaw. Benjamin Jasper Pendley married Nancy Ann or Annie Elizabeth Stroud. Have found both names, so not too sure what it would be listed under. Benjamin Jasper Pendley would be my great great grandfather. His son, Jesse Murphy Pendley, married Martha Ann Ledlow. They had ten children; one of which was my grandmother, Evelyn Estelle Pendley. My grandmother married George Thomas Smith. John Willis Pendley, age 84 of Jasper,Ga. died Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at his residence. Born May 19, 1923 in Pickens County, Ga., he was the son of the late William Joseph and Georgia Belle Norton Pendley. Services held at 11:00 A.M. May 15 at Long Swamp Baptist Church where he was a member since 1939 and served as deacon since 1973. Interment in the church cemetery. He was a U.S.Army veteran having served during WW II in 3rd Infantry Division, member Marble Hill Masonic Lodge, DAV and American Legion. He retired from Georgia Marble Co.in 1993.

I have spoken with a new Pendley relative that actually has some family records recently. His father remembers Durwood. According to their records, Wilma, the grandchild we have, is Durwood's daughter. He is calling around to see if he can find out for sure. We wonder if maybe Myrtle's parents gave the census taker the information and said Wilma was their grand daughter? Curious now!

My name is Jamie Pendley. My father (James L. Pendley) said we are descendants of Jessie Pendley and Elizabethe Hisaw. I am trying to make the connection still. His father's name was James Willard. He passed away in the 1950's. I met James Willard's brother "Dewey" but can not locate him. I was from Fayette and Berry area. Do you know about Dewey Pendley or his brother? I am pulling my hair out here. My great great grandmother Mary Ann Boucher Dupree married John L. Pendley in 1894 in Texas. They had 3 daughters Annie, Maude and Velora. There is another daughter somwhere named Ethel. I have a picture of Grandma Pendley( Mary Ann), her daughter Rosie ( my great grandmother) and Ethel. Rosie is about 8 in the picture and Ethel is at least 18 yrs old. I have a letter written by Grandma Pendley referring to Ethel as her daughter and John L. Pendley as "your papa". Now here is the thing I cant figure out.....Ethel has to be Grandpa Pendley's daughter by another marriage. That is the only place she can fit in. Does anyone have anything on John L. Pendley? If anyone has any information on this line of the Pendley's please please let me hear from you. John L. Pendley is the son of Joel Compton Pendley and Martha Ross.

The Pendley website, with info from Sammy and Martin show the wrong birth and death date for James Rupard Pendley son of John Jackson Pendley, grandson of Cicero Columbus Pendley, husband of Virginia Mae Hathorn, the correct birth and death dates are:
born Marble Hill, Ga July 7, 1929
died Atlanta, Ga residence at time Ball Ground,Ga Aug 2, 2006. I haven't had any luck getting this corrected so I am posting on message boards for anyone interested.

My father was also from Hanna,Oklahoma and is now buried there he actually went to a family reunion over in Alabama w/ some distant relatives this was back in 1998. I will question my mother about it and let you know. My fathers name was James Herman Pendley Sr.

Isaac Neal Pendley, only living son of Jesse Murphy Pendley and Martha Ann Ledlow, passed away yesterday, Friday, February 23, 2007, of Congestive Heart Failure. He is to be buried in Chattanooga, Tennessee, along with his brother, Milton Pendley, and Neal's wife, Mary Annette Brown.

Isaac Neal Pendley was the grandson of Benjamin Jasper Pendley and Annie Elizabeth "Nancy Ann" Stroud.

He had six brothers and three sisters. His brothers were: Benjamin Howard, David Murphy, Marvin Hester, Milton, Jesse Oscar, and Dewey Ray. His sisters were: Bertha Ann (Clark), Gladys Christine (Pendley), and Evelyn Estelle (Smith).

I received an email from a fellow researcher back on 12 Sept. 2006 and I recently ran across it in my files and thought that I would make some corrections. It is regarding Jesse Murphy Pendley, son of Benjamin Jasper Pendley and Nancy Ann Stroud aka Annie Elizabeth Stroud.

Jesse Murphy Pendley was born 16 May 1881 in AL and died 21 Nov 1968 in Berry, Fayette Co., AL. He died of a Heart Attack and is buried at Boley Springs Cemetery in Berry, Fayette County, AL. He married Martha Ann Ledlow, daughter of James Monroe Ledlow and Nancy M Franklin. Martha Ann was born 21 July 1885 and died 30 Oct. 1964. Jesse Murphy and Martha Ann Ledlow Pendley were born on 19 Nov. 1905.

Jesse Murphy Pendley and Martha Ann Ledlow had ten children; Bertha Ann, Benjamin Howard, David Murphy, Marvin Hester, Gladys Christine, Evelyn Estelle, Jesse Oscar, Milton, Isaac Neal, and Dewey Ray.

Bertha Ann was born on 13 Jan. 1907 and died 31 Jan. 1996. She is buried at Berry City Cemetery in Berry, AL. She married Walter J Clark, born 12 Nov. 1898 and died 16 Sept. 1972. They had six children; Denver, Harold, Ruby Nell, William Walter, Ray L., and Roy J.

Benjamin Howard was born on 16 Oct. 1908 and died 13 Nov. 1990. He is buried at Elbethel Bunkham Cemetery on the Fayette and Tuscaloosa Co., AL line. He married Indiana Taylor, born 25 Oct. 1915 and died 26 Nov. 2000. They had four children; Lecil Doyle, Cecil Ray, Hazel Ruth, and Earl Preston. Howard died of Leukemia.

David Murphy was born on 25 Aug. 1911 and died on 18 March 1958. He is buried at Boley Springs Cemetery in Berry, AL. He died of Leukemia plus Emphazysema. He also came home sick from WWII. He married Dorothy Lee Smith, daughter of Horace R Smith and Pauline Sevella Harvell on 23 Dec 1941. They had four children; Jacob Lee, Billie Jo, Jimmie Carol, and Willie Oscar.

Marvin Hester was born 13 Mar 1914 and died 15 Mar 2002 of a Heart Attack. He is buried in Boley Springs Cemetery in Berry, Fayette Co., AL. He married Georgia Veris Fields, born 31 August 1917 and died 17 Feb 1998. They had eight children; Ronald Lee, Billy Wayne, Dorothy Lee, Charolette Ann, Kenneth Lynn, Jimmy Hester, and David Jesse.

Gladys Christine was born on 13 July 1917 and died 16 July 1966 from complications of Emphazysema. She married Lonzo Pendley, born 3 Dec 1914 and died 15 Jan 1986. They are both buried at Boley Springs Cemetery in Berry, AL. They had two sons; Clyde Daniel and Sydney Lucius.

Evelyn Estelle was born 25 Jan 1920 and died 29 Aug 2006 of a Blood Clot and Congestive Heart Failure. She married George Thomas Smith, son of Horace R Smith and Pauline Sevella Harvell, on 23 Dec 1941. They had four children; Claude Jordan, born 12 Dec 1942, Larry Murphy, born 17 Jan 1945, Wanda Sue, born 4 Feb 1947, and Paul Jesse, born 2 Aug. 1950. Estelle and George Thomas are buried at Boley Springs Cemetery in Berry, AL.

Jesse Oscar was born 6 May 1922 and died 1 Jan 1968. He died from complications of Double Pneumonia. He was in Korean War. He is buried at Boley Springs Cemetery in Berry, AL. He married 1. Annie Laura Smith, daughter of Horace R Smith and Pauline Sevella Harvell, born 8 May 1928. They had one daughter, Bobbie Lou. Jesse married 2. Loyal Faye Corkerin.

Milton was born 11 Jan 1925 and died 28 Jan 2004. He is buried in Chattanooga, TN. He married June Shepherd. They had three children; Sandra June, Robin Darlene, and Luke Shane. Milton died of Lung Cancer.

Isaac Neal was born 23 Apr. 1927. He married Mary Annette Brown, daughter of Shorty and Mildred Brown, born 13 Mar 1933 and died 16 Oct. 2004. Annette died from heart surgery with uncontrolled bleeding.

Dewey Ray was born 16 May 1930 and died 4 Sept. 2000 from complications of Alzhemirs. He married Sydney Graham. He is buried in a Military Cemetery in Orlando, FL. They had two sons; Glenn and David.

Looking for information on Nancy Ann Stroud, wife of Benjamin Jasper Pendley, son of Bennett and Penetor Ellen Hisaw.

I have Nancy Ann Stroud as being born on 18 September 1851, have also seen it May of 1850, in Georgia.

I have her date of death as being 17 June 1933 in Deering, Missouri. I have always heard she was buried in Silverdale, Missouri.

Who were her parents?

I know she had a brother Manson Stroud that married Grace Clark and is buried in Tabernacle Cemetery in Berry, Fayette County, AL.
