Penner/Whitehouse double connection

I am seeking information on the Whitehouse/Penner double connection. I understand that William J. Whitehouse b.1837 KY and Mary Isabelle Risley b.1841 had a daughter named Mary Ellen. Mary Ellen married James Earl Penner on Sept. 23, 1882.

Now, James Earl had a baby brother named William Ellit Penner b.1868 IN. William Ellit also married a Whitehouse. She was called Ollie. (My direct line is through William Ellit Penner and Ollie Whitehouse). Since siblings often married siblings of another family, I thought perhaps Mary Ellen and Ollie were sisters (or perhaps cousins). However, I cannot find "Ollie" listed with Mary Ellen. I know that Ollie was born in IN. Her younger children with William Ellit Penner were born in Arkansas. After William Ellit Penner's death, Ollie married William "Billy" T. Wells and had more children.

I would appreciate any insight that you may have on this situation.

Hello,

I think we might be distantly related! My great great grandmother was Lula =
Boody, daughter of Marble P. Boody and Harriet Vroman in Michigan. Just lik=
e you, we had always heard that Nicolas Boody had married a full-blooded Na=
tive American and there had been a family fall out. However, no one has ever been able to prove it. I do not know Marble Boody's parents' names. The odd thing is, I know that Lula Boody was raised for a time on a reservation in Saginaw, Michigan, but she died at age 35 in childbirth.

I think it's odd that we have the same story about Native American in the family, but can't find the connection. I wonder if Iesta isn't somehow related.

Any information you could share on the Boody family would be greatly appreciated.

The only information I have on Iesta Boody is that her parents were John, from Germany and Mary (unknown last name) suppose to be a Delaware Indain. My records show that she was born Illinois (no proof). John and Mary had a family of only 7 daughters: Cora Alice, Ida Mary, Emma Jane, Annie, Florence, Minnie Bell and Sadie. Emma Jane married George M. Cliver my g-grandmother and g-grandfather. All of John and Mary’s children were born in PA and lived in NJ.

Boody family of NY

Is it possible there is a connection? Do you have the parents' names of your Iesta Boody? We are researching the family of Nicholas Boody, b. 1754. He had 8 children, Mary, Nicholas, Daniel, Henry, Jacob, Catherine, John, and Hannah, all born between 1800-1815. We have always heard that their mother was a full blooded Indian, but haven't been able to track down the records. They lived near Oneida Co, NY, but we don't know where they were before 1799. By 1837, the entire family, most of them married with children, moved to Eaton Co, Michigan.

My family's history jibes with much of what has been posted: The most immediate family came from what was then Prussia, i.e. a part of Germany that was on the east side of the Polish corridor. After World War II, it became part of Russia. The family oral history was that some time early in the family history, the name came from the Low Countries, either the Netherlands or Flanders, and that some were Mennonites.

We know that his family spoke German, but when I have asked Germans whether this is a name they recognise, I am told that Penner is slang for homeless(I was backpacking at the time, which caused much mirth) and not known as a surname.
Cara: My relatives tell me that "Penner" has two meanings in German, depending where in modern Germany you ask the question:
1 - a lazy fellow, or town bum (this would fit your response of a homeless person)
2 - a "Tinker" or, pot and pan maker
My Grandfather and his three brothers grew up in a tiny village in what is now Poland, spoke German, and counted in Russian. They migrated to this country in the 1890's. Are we German, Polish, or Russian? The answer is, of course, we are Americans. It is interesting, however, to know one's lineage. Good luck in your search.
Bruce Penner

The truth of the matter is, 2003 my computer crashed and I lost everything!! I had about 1600 names in my tree ... (no back-up) I was very bummed and never got the strength to start over. I keep saying, one day soon ... When the time comes, I'd love to share!!

I'll be in touch!!

Patty

Patty, I know this posting was years ago, but if you are still looking for descendants of Thomas Gerbrandt (1809) and Katherine Penner (1807)the Grandma data base has 115 pages of descendants with much data. If you don't have that information I will be happy to provide it.
James

Searching for Benjamin Murry Penner family

I have one possibility for father name Johann or John, possibly immigrated from Hanover, Germany. Benjamin was born in Neche, North Dakota, in 1893 and migrated to Saskatchewan, Canada and then eventually settled on a farm near Barrhead, Alberta, Canada. He was married to Louise Wilma Badke from Little Rock, Arkansas. He possibly had a brother named David who lived in Saskatchewan.

If there is anyone out there who can fill me in on some of his ancestors, please let me know. Thank you!

The ancestry of the Penners goes back to the time of Alfred the Great of England.

In my husband's family they even thought that they were related to him.

In the time of Elizabeth the first of England she was allied with the Netherlands and sent many of her soldiers to the Netherland.
Many of them them settled there in the Belgium ( now known )
which would have included the Flanders connections..
Some of those Penners in those areas became christians who followed Meno Simeons , thus the names of Mennonites.
In later years many moved to other parts of Europe.
in the 1790's, Catherine the Great invited many of them to come to Russia ( as it was known then) which is now the Ukraine. she Knew that they knew how to farm land was had a lot of water on it.
My husband's family were among those who settled in the Molotchna colony.

The names of the sons are interesting. The first one was a JOHANN ( John) Penner. the next eldest son bore his fathers name as well as his own.
and so on.
My Husband's father's name was JOHN JOHN as John was his name and he was the the s/o John.
His father's name was JOHN JACOB PENNER.
The eldest son always bore the name of his father.

I have researched these families for many years.
I also know that in the 1890's My husband's grandfather, John had two brothers who went to the states.
One to north Dakota ( Jacob) and one to Texas.(Peter)
His grandfather went to the Morden area of Mantoba. in Pembina county. in the 1920's after the Russian Revolution.

Penner means either the person who herds animals or he could be a Writer.

I hope this info helps other Penner researchers out there.
Due to objections by my husband family I cannot release his family info.
Just a note of interest there are still many Penners who claim English ancestry and they have a coat of arms with a stag on it.
My husband's family had a standing lion on it.

I can reached at my Email address: sylpen@shaw.ca
