Christine, Hendrik Anthonius (1890-1945) was the brother of my grandfather, Petrus Johannes (1878-1953). I have a geneology book by Leo Anton Pennock which goes back to Johannes Pennock (1727-1776). This book includes only the surname "Pennock". Are there earlier connections or connections through maternal lines ((i.e. wife of Johannes Jacobus) (1849-1927)(their father))?

In 1891 at Paddock Walk Farm, Arden, lived Thomas Pennock,26, born Glaisdale/Egton and his wife Ellen,44. Their family was James Chapman,17, b.Arden. Clara Chapman,7. Emma Chapman, 15 and Sarah Pennock, daughter aged 1.
Thomas was the son of Stockton Pennock of Glaisdale who died 1894, aged 70. This Thomas was farming at Snilesworth in 1891.
Stockton Pennock was the son of Thomas Pennock of Gill Beck House Farm, Egton. This Thomas had married a Stockton daughter. Two Pennock brothers married two Stockton daughters and this led to the name Stockton Pennock appearing in two Pennock families (Just to add a bit of confusion for us!).
Thomas, at Paddock Walk, had married Ellen, the widow of his late employer, farmer Chapman.

Hi Raymond, I might have a little info which may be of use to you.
1881 Census for York City shows at Garden Terrace. Clifton. York.
George PennAck.23.Postman.(Letter Carrier)b. Clifton. Elisabeth.23. wife. b. Boston. Lincs
Emily.1 month old Dau. b. York.
George's wife, Elisabeth was Elisabeth Hannah Fairweather and she married George at York in 1879.

George had a brother, William, also shown in 1881 as at:
6 Mitre Street. Stockton-on-Tees

William PennAck. 30. Head Confectioner. b. York.
Martha Annie Pennack 28. Wife.b. York
William. 4. Son.b. York
Earnest A. 3 Weeks.b.York.

These two PennAck brothers were both sons of William Pennock of York. Really they were PENNOCK as the marriage cert of William clearly shows. George was a witness when William married Martha Annie Dodd at York, 31 Aug. 1876. This is another example of the name becoming spelled incorrectly. At the time of this Census, 1881, father of Martha, John, was a Pauper, ex Groom at Clifton Union Workhouse, York.

I do not attach too much importance to name spelling after I found a relative of mine who was clearly Christened PennOck. He later moved to Tees-side and was known in the records thereafter as PennAck. His family retained this spelling PennAck. I put it down possibly to a regional accent situation. Say for example, this man, Richard Pennock had gone to see the local vicar when he wished to get married, the vicar may well have recorded the name as PennAck, as it pssibly sounded in those parts. And so it stuck.
Robin P.

Hi,
As one of the novices to whom you refer I have not yet reached the period of your search but having discovered my paternal grandmother was one Eva Isabel Pennock (1891- ?) the daughter of George Edward (1854-?) and Mary and sister of George Edward Jnr and Robert, I am having trouble following the line back.
The clusters in N. Yorkshire have been noted with interest but so far have proved fruitless.
Due to the geographical proximity of your search and mine, based in Sunderland and Tyneside, it seems a link would be likely and any hints or direction from anyone would be appreciated.
Also is the change in spelling a common phenomenon as in Pennack, Pennick pre 1850 and would searches take this into account or should I be searching for these spellings in particular?
Here's hoping you are still out there and listening!
Cheers.
The John Pennock in my tree was born in Essex in 1574. His wife was Margery Newton. They had a son named John born in Essex in 1611. I have been unable to find a wife or children for John 1611. John's 1574 father was Pennock, no first name b 1540 d 1600 and his mother was Margaret, no last name, b 1570
It is possible that John 1611 could be the father of your I don't kno if this helpsJohn b 1659

Hi,
I have just read an old posting of yours from July 2005 and I am interested to know more about the Pennocks you refer to. My own Pennock research is also focused on the same areas of the North Riding, and my most recent interest remains in the same area. However, I have reached a 'block' (at John Pennock born 1659 in Egton) and would welcome a little help.

mmmm I cant't find anything in my book about the father of christopher this is what I found but you might know allready:
Christopher Pennock, ancestor of the Pennock family of Pensylvania, according to family tradiation, was an officer in the army of William of Orange 1688,While on campaign in Ireland ,he ws riding past Killhouse Castle near Clonnel,Tipperary Country, and saw a young girl,Mary Collet, with whom he fell in love at first site. When Christopher Pennock and Mary Collet were married,he (her father Gearge Collet,an english quaker) gave them as a dowry a grant or right to take up 5,000 acres of land in Pensilvania that he recently purchased from William Penn. This appears in the original deeds. Christopher came over to this country about 1690 and is supposed to have died near Philadelphia, Mary remained in Ireland. Their surviving son Joseph Pennock, came over about 1703. In 1714 he sttled in West Marlborough Township,Chester County, Pensylvania on the same tract where he later built his house Primitive Hall, having remained continuously in the Pennock family (George Valentine Malley II,the pennocks of primitive Hall). One of his sons Joseph Pennock jr. was an extensive Pensylvania landowner and also a shipping merchant in Philadelphia. It was his son Isaac Pennock , who founded the Lukens Steel Cy and Isaac Pennock's daghter, Mrs Rebecca Webb (Pennock)Oukens, for whom the Company is named... (all this according the tale from a vice president of Lukens Steel name unknown ... some from collections in Salt Lake city or Kintracers Ltd..greeting from christine .....
From "Rash's Surname Index" start with Byron Chapman Pennock, his 3rd wife Sarah Harford, gave birth to George E Pennock 1884 ( my grandfather) Roy Pennock 1907 (father)and me Paul A Pennock 1950. If you go backwards from Byron you will see there were 3 different William Pennocks 1773,1749,1707..comming full circle to Joseph Pennock @ Primitive Hall, then Christopher Pennock and Mary Collett.
The link I'm looking for is Christophers father, grandfather

New Yorksire Pennock website

Malcolm Pennock Moore and I are developing a website at http://yorkshirepennocks.bravehost.com . We would like to add as many Pennock lines as possible so that researchers will have a place where then can find possible branches to their own trees. I have not seen a site like this online and thought that it would be a good alternative to forums where people just ask about individuals. Please take time to go look at the site and then contact me if you would like to contribute or even if you only have suggestions or comments that could make the site better.

Hello: I'm a descendant of Immigrant Jacob Reinhardt,
arr 1737, but haven't been able to "prove" him. For generations, Family lore has held that he came to America in 1734, 36 or 37, took up farming and lived to be 100 yrs of age.

I Note that you found some info on him. It appears that he might have come with Immigrant Conrad, and was considered part of his family upon arrival.

I'd appreciate any info you have on him. Many Thanks
Sheridan Rinehart: sheridanr44266@yahoo.com
Freelove wife of Ira R. Pennock was SMITH

Found this incidental to research I was doing on the Smiths in my line and know others may be missing this tie on the Pennock side. Freelove b. 1792 who m. Ira R. Pennock, son of Samuel & Mercy, was dau. of Ebenezer & Hannah Smith of early Hebron, NY. Ebenezer's will in 1857 includes her. Also, on 1860 census, Freelove is listed with widowed mom & widowed sister Ann @ Hebron. Hope this helps someone.

Researching my husband's Pennock connection. His mother was Clara Frances Pennock, b 1911 near Irma, Alberta, Canada. Grandfather was Arthur Ridgman Pennock, b. 1889 in British Columbia, son of William Henry Pennock, b. 1862 in Ontario. His brother was Dennis Gordon Pennock (1893 in BC) & sister Vivien May Pennock (1894, Victoria, BC). Family history has W.H.'s father as Arthur James Pennock, b. abt 1834 in York Mills, Ontario. W.H. married Clara Ridgman, daughter of John Ridgeman (sea captain b. abt 1838 in Cornwall) & Elizabeth Price Hatherly (b. Sep 1838 in Bude, Cornwall).

Any information on the Canadian side of the Pennock line (or the Ridgman/Hatherly lines) would be extremely appreciated.

I'd love to know your connection to Philander. He was my great grandfather.I have a copy of his marriage certificate to Philena (The Rev William Smart misspelled it) My 2nd cousin, in retirement, is the caretaker of The Clayton Village Cemetery and its records. The date of death of Philena is illegible and a resetting of her tombstone has concealed that date in the present base. She and Philander are buried on the same plot. (I have pictures).

My grandfather was James W born in Canada in 1832, David, one to three years later. Sometime later (date unknown) they moved to Clayton NY where a daughter, Minerva, was born in 1843. Apparently there were still hostile feelings toward Loyalists and Philander assumed the mantle of Patriot. In the 1850 census he claimed that his birthplace was Vermont (Philena and boys, Canada and Minerva NY. In the 1860 census, he claimed NY. James was married with 2 young children and filed separately. By the time of the 1870 census, Jas., David and Minerva are married. In this census Philander and Philena have an 18-year-old servant living with them. Place of birth for the three of them is NY. This interests me for the birthplaces are ditto marks of a long list of NY of previous persons. Daughter Minerva had married Philo Clark and they had a daughter Hattie. Minerva died at age 28. Philo became a sailor and Hatie went to live with fer grandfather. In the 1880 census, Philander has a 2nd wife, Sarah. Living with them is her daughter Lydia and granddaughter Hattie Clark. Philander is still claiming NY as his birth and Vermont that of both of his parents.
My grandfather James Pennock married Annette Allen Glass. They had 9 children, the first, Emma, died at any early age. There were four boys, my father, Stanley Arlington Pennock, being born when his mother was 54 (documented). Only William had a son, named William, who married but never had any children. Only the daughters had sons.
I was recently excited to learn of a decendant of my great uncle David Pennock who was 94 and living near my son. It was such a disappointment to learn that David's son had been adopted and thus none of his descendants are Pennock blood relatives. I had only a sister who died 20 years ago. Thus, I appear to be the last person, born a Pennock, wo descended from Philander and Philena. I have been thrilled to learn of all the Pennocks who have the common linkage to James and Thankful Boardman of Vermont.
I am intrigued by your claim that Philander was your great, great, great grandfather. It would be wonderful to have yet another "kinfolk", but I am curious as to the names of all your Pennock granfathers inbetween.
As far as Philander's attempt to claim the Patriot label, he must have succeeded with his family for my father and all his siblings believed that their branch of Pennocks had been Patriots.
I'll be interested to hear from you.

I recently requested an inter-library loan of "The Illustrated Historical Souvenir of Randolph, Vermont". Tucked inside were several very old newspaper clippings. One is entitled "A Former Randolph Man" and is about Nathan L. Pennock, born Strafford, Vt. It says his grandfather was ". . . James Pennock, who was born on the way from England to this country in 1712 . . .". Am attaching copy of this clipping. It's all I have about this family. Seemed a shame not to share it.

Cayuga County NY Historical & Genealogical Ctr. has a lot of information on the Pennocks who lived in Fleming. Wait Pennock & his wife Deborah, Alexander pennock & Eunice his wife, James C. "Bonker" and Betsey (Pennock), his wife, & Alanson Bets & Aurelia, his wife to Jeremiah Pennock. No idea which estate is being settled, however in the 1810 census for Aurelius (Fleming formed from Aurelius in 1823) there are 3 Pennock families. Alexander; Alexander, Jr., & Jeremiah. Betsey Bunker's father was Alexander, Sr. There were also Pennock families in Galen, Wayne Co, NY. Mrs. Hazel Hyde wrote an extensive genealogy of these lines and you should be able to either find it online or post a query to see if anyone has it.

Most of the information I have about the Pennocks I found on Ancestry.com. Some of it was given to me by others on the internet. i have to say that I have not verified it with hard copy documents, other than emails.

Shirley

Hi,
The only thing that I know about Mercy Cahpman is that she was born may 18, 1738 East Haddam, Middlesex, Connecticut, and died about 1838. I think the family were loyalists and moved to Ontario, Canada. There is a book about the Pennocks that you might be able to find in a library or order. It is called "Our Brothers in Arms" by Lee Huntington Pennock. I have not read it, but the information was given to me.

l have just recently made the connection of Pennock, with my line Whites, of Uxbridge and surrounding ontario areas. This is of course in reference to the Markham Gang. Would be very interested in hearing from you, rvw2006@sympatico.ca

My Pennocks descend from Samuel and Mary Wilson Pennock of Cropton, England. I'd be interested in what research you have on them while in England. I've been to both Samuel's and Mary's gravesites.

Julie Pennock Moss
