Re: seeking anc & desc -Perin Peoples m Grace Elizabeth King

To Karen, According to The Records of Richard Elliott, Passenger Agent, Detroit, Michigan published by the Detroit Society for Genealogical research, Inc. A "Hugh Peoples paid for the passage of three adults and two children from Liverpool to New York in February of 1855. The listing gives no indication of how each were related. The passengers were:
Elizabeth Peoples
Eliza Anne Peoples
William Peoples
Hugh Peoples age 12
Margaret Peoples age 10
I have inherited some photos of the Peoples family, some identified and some not. Because I have photos of the Hubert family (Eliza Ann (Peoples) Hubert and William Peoples line and several of Margaret and census records indicate a close relationship for each of them, it would be a resonable assumption that they were brothers and sisters. I see no indication of a "Mary", although Margaret was often called "Maggie" in her photos and records. If you obtain copies of the death certificates of Eliza Anne and Margaret, you will see that they both have their father listed as Hugh Peoples. The younger Hugh Peoples death was sudden and his wife did not list his parentage possibly due to stress at the time, however, she was present at Margaret's death and listed the father as Hugh Peoples. I don't have William's death certificate yet. There is a "Hugh Peoples" who is buried at the Newburgh Cemetery in Nankin Twsp, Wayne County, Michigan. His gravestone states that he died Dec. 16, 1859 at age 45 years. It is reasonable to assume that this was the father of Eliza Anne, William, Hugh and Margaret Peoples. Eliza Anne's death dertificate attempts to list her mother's name, but it is illegible (perhaps Margaret Rufell) but this is not reliable as it is not readable. I do not know how "Elizabeth Peoples" one of the immigrants that Hugh paid passage, fits into the family. She could have been a sister or the mother. I cannot find a record of her death. I cannot see that she is buried at Newburgh Cemetery or any census record of her. Perhaps she died just following her passage to New York. Michigan did not keep state records until 1867...so I am still researching this and looking for some clue as to how she fits into the family.
Any assistance with this line would be appreciated.
Sue, I am so very sorry that I hadn't seen this message until now (2013). I have been away from genealogical research for many years and have just had the chance to return to my research and saw your message. Among other family lines, I have been attempting to trace the Peoples family. Katheryn was my father's first cousin. My grandfather, Hugh Peoples, was brother to Perin Peoples, your grandfather. I had been in occasional communication with Katheryn as it pertained to family research. Upon her death, several of her friends called me to inform me that she had died and that she had wanted me to have some family photos. They kindly sent me a box of photos. Unfortunately for me, most of the photos were from the King side of the family (katheryn's mother's side), however, there was some nice photos of Parin Peoples and Grace E. King. I do not believe that there were any family photos of you, however, I could be wrong. Most were not labelled so identification would have been difficult. During the last years of Katheryn's life, she was not able to write as she had arthritis so very serious in her hands, but we did communicate by phone. A year before her death, she was visited by her brother, Dick Peoples, and their relationship was renewed. He died shortly after. Please feel free to reply. I am currently a member of Ancestry.com and will reply in a reasonable time. Do I have your last name correct as "Frasher"? Thank you for your reply..

Hi, do you have any more info on your granfather Ike? His siblings names, where did he and his siblings live in Alabama? If they moved, where to? I am in contact with many of the "Peoples" surnames that are related to me, but there are many of them that are missing. Faye

Peoples in NC

I am researching the ancestry of the Peoples family in NC. The last family member I have concrete evidence on is William A. Peoples (1838 - 1902). He was born in NC probably Surry County, married Sarah Norman in 1860 and lived in Yadkin County until at least 1860. I believe his mother was Mary Peoples born around 1819 in Surry County and Franky Peoples was possibly his maternal grandmother born in 1793 in Surry County.
Any information will be greatly appreciated. I've been researching this line for a long time.

John H. Peoples and Flora C Shaw Peoples

Hi, Looking for John H. Peoples born 1858-1859 in Tennessee. His parents were born in Tennessee. He married Flora C. Shaw (born 1864 in Mississippi) in New Orleans 23 Mar 1885. They had 3 children: John H Peoples Jr 1888 in Georgia; Sallie M. Peoples 1890 in Georgia, and Flora Lee Peoples born 1896 in Georgia. On the 1900 Census, John H. Peoples is widowed, living with sister in law, Sallie Schneider. On 1910 Census, married to Mary R. Peoples with stepchildren Mary Bolk (Balk)1883, and Frank Bolk 1887, and daughter Flora Lee Peoples 1896. Then I am at a wall. What happened to Flora C Shaw? I think John was living in Atlanta, Georgia in 1891. Maybe Flora died between 1896 and 1900 in Atlanta? Can't find anything. Help if you can please.

History And Origin
1. Irish (Ulster): adopted as an English equivalent of Gaelic Ó Duibhne ‘descendant of Dubhne', a personal name meaning ‘ill-going', ‘disagreeable'. [Compare Deeney -- Irish: Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Duibhne ‘descendant of Duibhne', a byname from duibhne ‘disagreeable', ‘ill-tempered'.]

Peoples is a pseudo-translation based on the phonetic resemblance of the Gaelic name to Gaelic daoine ‘people'.

2. English: patronymic from a pet form (in -el) of the Old French personal name Pepis, oblique case Pepin (see Pepin).

Dictionary of American Family Names, Oxford University Press, Inc. © 2006 Patrick Hanks

"Peoples" is 1,321st most popular name in the U.S.
69 year average lifespan
National Average: 75
Eleanor Peoples - Terrydremond, Limavady, County Derry, Ireland

I am interested in information on the parents, siblings, marriage, and birth/death of Eleanor People. I really do not know much about her except she is said to have married David Steen (1760-1863) abt 1794. David was born in Terrydremond, Limavady, County Derry, Ireland and she is probably from the same area. The children for David are know to be:

James (1796-1886)
Martha Nancy (b. 1800 d. 1865 Butler Co Pa)
Ellen (1805)
Mary Ann (b. 1806 d. 1879 Butler Co Pa)
Margaret (1807)
Jane (1811)
Elizabeth (1814)
William Wilson (b. 1816 d. 1886 Butler Co Pa)
John (1817)

Some believe David had more than one wife but I am not sure. They would be my 3rd great grand parents.

Any help is appreciated and thank you in advance.

Not home at the moment but do not remember the PEOPLES name as one I ever sent off. My best guess is that I still have this picture back home in my Flea Market Mysteries folder. If you would like a JPG of it, send an eMail address to me at nutmeg@bartnet.net and I'll send a JPG when I get back. I don't remember if its a home picture or a studio shot, most of what I have gathered are studio cards nicely staged and full face at least.
