Thank you for your reply, but my mothers mom Anna Peoples, was not married when she had my mom, I dont think. I think Peoples was her maiden name also, not married name. And they were in Ohio in the 1930's. But if you would like to stay in contact, maybe we can help each other with the research. My mom passed in 1999, so I have no leads, she didnt know too much about her family, she grew up in orpanages and foster homes, since she was 4 yrs. old. We are from Ohio, so I am still researching there and trying to get original birth certificate for my mom, hoping that will have more info. I will let you know if I find anything more. Thank you again, take care and good luck!! My email is mellodyfair@msn.com. You can reach me there anytime, nice to meet you.

My name is Stephen W. Peoples. I have 2 younger sisters, Michelle and Kimberly. My father's side of the family is from Alabama. My mother and father divorced when I was 5 in 1963. We've had no contact with him since. From the names you mentioned, it sounds like we may be related. My mother says my father was married once before and had other children. A cousin did some research and found out that my father died in 1998. That's all I know.

Re: Peoples family in Brooklyn NY

Good morning, I just realized that in my excitement I posted much of the same info in my reply to you as in my original query. I reach so many dead ends that when I do get what seems to be a certain connection it stuns me!!Never having met any relations on my mother's side, or knowing very little about her extended family, makes that excitement peak. If we are correct in assuming a family connection, we are both great, great grandchildren of Isaac Peoples and Eliza Nealis. Other than your ggf, do you know the details on any of his siblings or their descendants. Do you know if any live in the NYC area. The last known address for my grandfather and ggmother was 511 8 St, Bklyn NY.
The grave I am familiar with in Calvary holds both my great grandparents, Mary Therese and Jeremiah Donovan and my grandfather Harold. I know there is also a Peoples buried there but unfortunately, on a trip back from the Archives, I lost a notebook containing quite a bit of info. If you are not familiar with this grave it is 3rd Calvary, Section 29, Range 10, Plot M, Graves 20, 21 and 22. I know I had the info on another Calvary grave, possibly your grandfather, but that was among the lost info and I never had a chance to visit. I did join Ancestry once but, due to a very busy schedule and family illness, I had very little opportunity to reasearch it's records It expired before I got much use out of it Most of my info I have gathered from visits to the Municipal Archievs, Church and Cemetary records. I have many buried in Holy Cross and they are very cooperative. Calvary on the other hand barely gives you a hello without looking to charge you!! Again, I look forward to hearing from you and hope that we can arrange to meet in person at some time. Tom

Your reply was quite a shock! I didn't expect to get a response because so many of my queries have gone unanswered. My name is Tom and from the info you have provided we are surely distant cousins. Your Isaac was an older brother to my great grandmother, Mary Theresa Peoples Donovan. I know very little about any of the Donovan/Peoples ancestors. My grandfather, Harold Donovan was separated from my grandmother. Harold and his parents were dead before I was born in 1951. I do believe though that I have another lead on a Peoples connection. Joseph (10m 1880) had a daughter Sylvia who married a McColgan. Sylvia had a son Henry (Bud) who passed away in January 2009. The family lives in Floral Park NY and I have tried many times to reach his widow by phone but had no success. Do you know of these people? Do you have any old family photos? If so I would be happy to pay you for the copies. I would also appreciate any and all info you have on our shared family. Please e-mail me at tvrl524@aol.com so that we may discuss this further. I look forward to hearing from you and hopefully, if you still live in the NY area, meeting you.

This is primarily due to name changes, incorrect dates, and geographic location and duplicity problems

In any event, I would like to try to clarify and verify as much family information as I can. Who knows what will develop in this family tree.

My name is Alan Samuel Kindig. I was born March 9, 1933 in Bethlehem Township (Butztown) PA. My father was Earl Morris Kindig born 1904 died 1996). My mother was Rose (Roselia) Tackas born 1910 died 1976. I have the following siblings:
Sylvia Agnes Kindig Groeger
Ronald Eugene Kindig 1934 1935
Sandra Paulette Kindig Pinkerton
Bruce Glenn Kindig
Bernardine Kindig Stevens

My Dads father was Weston Samuel Kindig. His mother was Tillie Benkhardt (Bankhardt). Beside Dad there was a daughter Pauline who died in infancy. Tillie and Weston divorced. She remarried to John P. Smith. (no children from this union) Weston remarried to Ruth (Ruby) Schaffer (Zigenfuss or Ziegenfus). Ruth brought a daughter Virginia Ziegnfus to the union.

Ruth and Weston had the following children:
Hilda Married Calvin Bartholomew
Isabell Married Albert Wessner
Emma Married Louis Mira
Alice Married Paul Gibson
Daniel Married Mary
Barbara Married Coit
Weston S Jr. had two wives who died
Earl Morris Weston’s son from first marriage.
Virginia Zigenfus Zigenfoos Kindig was Ruth’s daughter from her first
marriage. Virginia married a Jackson.
Daniel, Weston Jr., and Emma (Mira) still live. Barbara went to CA married a Coit and has totally dropped off the radar. The last anyone knows she did have a son.

Weston S. Sr. had a brother Morris. Morris was married to Emma. They had a son Billie and a daughter Mabel. No other information is currently available.

Tillie Benkhardt’s mother was Paulina Stoll Benkhardt. We have no information on father Frank Benkhardt other than he was in Allentown PA. Tillie’s sisters were Ida, Carrie, Gertrude, and Flora. I only knew Carrie and Gertrude. Flora and Ida were probably deceased by the time I came along

Daniel B. Kindig and Lena Kraus were the parents of Weston and Morris.

Daniel Kindig and Susanna Hively were the parents of Daniel B Kindig. It seems Daniel was taken by his family from PA to Milton Wayne OH. The children from this marriage beside Daniel B. were Christiana Shellabarger, John S. Kindig, William Henry Kindig, and Catherine Kindig. Christiana returned to PA in her later life.

Daniels father and mother were Daniel Kindig and Susanna Hively. This generation shows a transfer of residence from PA to Wayne OH. Children for this union are Lucy Ann, David, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Lydia, Susanna, and William Francis Kindig.

Daniel Kindig’s parents were Henry Kindig and Elizabeth Eshelman. It appears Daniel was the only child attributed to Henry and Elizabeth. This is as far back as the Kindig surname line goes. It takes it back to 1755. This is pre revolutionary war and Henry would have been in his twenties when the revolution occurred. We do not know if he was a revolutionary war solider or not. It seems he may have been a Mennonite. We are researching more on him through the Lancaster County Historical Society in PA.

On the Kindig grandmother side we have records going back to 1712. Because of the numerous listings I will just list the names that are in this tree and appear to be directly connected.
Leana Krauss
Susanna Hively George Hively
Elizabeth Eshelman Benedict Eshelman, Peter Eshelman
Susanna Weigel, Johan Leonard Weigel, Valentin Weigel, Johan Martin Weigel
Rosina Billmeyer, Jacob Billmeyer changed name from Johann Balmer (father of Jacob)
Christina Mayer
Helena Holtzender
Maria Funcher, Georg Funcher
Ann Dorothy Triddell Nicholas Triddell
Magdalena
Anna Stehman, Joseph Steinman note name change father to daughter
Frena
Frederick Stoll, Fredricka Stoll, Carolina Stoll
Dobelman
Barbara Herman
Fredricka Weiss, Fredian Weiss, John Wass
E Kienzle

If you come across Brian Kindig in CA, he is my nephew. He is my brother Bruce’s
son. He is also actively researching this ancestry.
I will greatly appreciate any thing you can add to enhance this ancestry. I am especially curious as to how Henry got to Lancaster County and what his roots are.

The following surnames are being shown in my list of kinship.
Alkirie
Bachman
Dietrich
Hemerman
Mosteller
The frequency and long listings of these names seem unrelated. However, if you can add any knowledge about these names and how they might relate to the Kindig list, please feel free to add your findings.

Thank you ever so much for your contributions.

Alan S.

JOHN PEOPLES
Walsh Heritage, ND 1881-1981, Vol 1 - p.444

John Peoples was born Feb 2, 1872 in Donnegal, Ireland and died in 1938 in Park River. The Peoples family came to Voss in 1890, settled there for 12 years. Economic conditions were bad in Ireland, they came to America to seek a living.

John Peoples married Jane Fairly ROBBIE Dec 31, 1902, moved fra Voss to Fertile Township near Park River about 1904 and became part of the Scotch settlement. They had six children:
Elizabeth (never married) (deceased)
William
Lois Peoples McINTYRE (deceased)
Althea Peoples PEOPLES
Walter
Harold

John's sister, Marjorie, married a distant cousin, Harry Peoples. They moved fra Voss to Fertile Township. Harry Peoples family, John H. and Martha migrated fra Ireland earlier than the John Peoples family.

Harry Peoples' parents worked for the DuPont's in Delaware. Harry Peoples was born in Delaware; when he was 3 weeks old the family moved to Ontario because of the war, they managed to bring all the relatives over here and when Harry was about 20, he returned to the U.S. and joined his cousin, John Peoples, who was farming at Voss.

He married Marjorie Peoples. Harry and Marjorie had nine children:
Maggie
Eva
Earl
Carl (twin)
Cecil (twin) all born at Voss
Lillian
Ann
Myrna were born in Fertile Township

Several children died in infancy. Harry, Marjorie and their son Earl died in 1914 in the flu epidemic. Ann and Myrna Peoples were raised by their uncle: John Peoples.

Trying to help a dear family member locate descendants of this William Peoples. He married Ann(a) Johnston. Anna's brother, Joseph Johnston was a Spanish American War veteran and someone in this PEOPLES family had a photo album of Joseph and letters and photos from the Spanish American War. Please help locate descendants of PEOPLES family living in Greensburg, PA in about 1960. That was where and when the album was last seen.

Please help me find the family of this Anna Peoples. She was "not a young lady" in 1960. She had a daughter, at least, so perhaps Peoples was not her maiden name. She had a photo album containing photos and letters from Joseph Baron Johnston when he was in the Spanish American War. I have a wonderful relative, by marriage, who is 82 years old and Joseph Baron Johnston was his father. He died when my relative was 9. My relative was raised in Oregon and never had contact with his Penn relatives. Please help me find the Peoples family that had or have this album. It would mean so much for him to see those photos and read those letters. Joseph Baron Johnston did have a sister, Anna, who married William Peoples.

Thank you for your kind reply. I'm not really wanting to trace the Peoples family. I really just need to locate a Peoples descendant that is related to "Anna Peoples" who was living in Greensburg in 1960. Was an allied family to our relative (his aunt married William C. PEOPLES. It was this Aunt's family that had this Joseph Baron JOHNSTON photo album.
I do appreciate you taking the time to reply though.

Peoples family in Brooklyn NY

I have recently learned that my ggrandmother Mary Theresa Donovan/Duffy was born a Peoples. I have found the family on the 1880 Census as residents of Manhattan. Her parents were Isaac Peoples, 38, IRE, Cooper and Eliza Nealis 38,IRE, Keeping House. Both Isaac and Eliza's parents were Irish born according to the Cencus. Their children were Kathleen 18, College student; Rebecca, 16, at paper boxes; Isaac,12 School; Jennie 10, school; Mary Theresa 7, school; Ann 6, school; Henry 4; Joseph 10m. All the children were born in NYC. I know that Mary died in 1948, and Joseph died in 1945.Both are buried in Calvary Cemetary, Queens NY in separate graves. Joseph was married to Annie O'Brien and on the death certificate his next of kin was listed as Sylvia McColgan of Queens NY. Mary was married to Jeremiah Donovan, who died in 1903, and they had 3 sons:Joseph, Harold and I believe Leo. Harold is my grandfather. At a later date she married Thomas Duffy. If any on this sight have any information on this line of the Peoples family I would appreciate a reply. Thank You
