This is additional information having to do with the obituary on Jim Perham. It says that he has a brother named William Jackie Perham. This is not correct. Actually, William had a twin named Jackie that died as a babe. I once talked to William and he told me that Jackie died so young that he did not remember him. William has two sons, Jackie and Gregory.

Hi Dave, Alas, I doubt that your 'Auntie Perham' is my Cora Bartlett Perham. The handwriting is not even close. I intended to send you a scanned copy, but at the moment my big computer, the one connected to the scanner, is not working and I'd have to figure out how to connect this laptop to it. That's beyond me today. But I have every intention of posting a sample of the letters. They are charming at the least. I plan to go buy a new monitor for it tomorrow and if that fixes the problem, I should be able to scan and post on Thursday if not before.

Cora Bartlett was unmarried and living in Ionia Michigan in 1880. By 1900 she was married to Clifton Perham of Candor, NY. He traveled a lot as a bridge builder and I thought perhaps she had been traveling with him. I know she was a prolific letter writer, writing to Clifton and to her cousins. It wouldn't surprise me to find out she wrote to other 'nieces and nephews' too.

Annie Betts

Hopefully you've received my other e-mail. Finally, I've been able to scan both pages of the letter. I had to give up on my "new" all in one scanner/fax/whatever and reattach my "old" all in one scanner/fax/whatever. I'm glad I didn't sell it on the tag sale! Both pages should be attached here. I hope there's a link somewhere!

Keep in touch!

Thanks,

Dave Robison
drr45@msn.com

This is a real long shot, but I have some letters written by Cora Bartlett Perham, who was married to Clifton Perham from New York. If you would like to send me a scanned copy of your letter I'll share one of the letters I have and we can compare handwritting. Who knows? Maybe Cora was you Auntie Perham?

Annie Betts (not related to the Perhams)

My name is Barry Gibson descended from William and Mary Perham parents of your Merritt Perham. I descend through Merritt's brother Martin. Martin married Clarissa Merrill and they had a daughter Kitty (Blanch) who married Charles Gibson, they had a son Lester who married Rena Merritt, and they had my father Rolland Gibson. Here's hoping your email address is still the same as on the posting. I would be interested in sharing information on this family. I also have photos of Martin and Clara and their children as well as a reunion photo taken I assume in Williamston, Michigan. Looking forward to hearing from you.
While searching for Charles Perham of Whitefield Maine in the 1860 census, I found a Charles in Boston in a hotel or rooming house along with an Isaiah Perham. Both were listed as born in NY. The Charles was 25, about the right age for the man I was looking for, but I can find no record of an Isaiah Perham born in NY around 1816. Does anyone have him in a family list?? Thanks

Vashti Perham, b. 1859 Winsham, Somerset, England, d. 1937 Kendall County, Illinois

I'm researching Vashti Woodcock PERHAM.

Per the 1881 British census she was born in Winsham, Somerset in 1859. She was married to William King BROWN. I have a marriage date for them of 16 September 1880 in Chard, but no verification of this, yet. The date comes from Vashti's obituary. In 1881 she & William lived in Winsham with their infant son, William. The elder William was a shepherd.

They left England for the United States in 1883 and settled in Illinois, in the Kendall county area. I cannot located them anywhere in 1900. In 1910 they were in Kendall county and in 1920 in La Salle County.

Vashti's obit gives her date of birth as 13 October 1859 and her date of death as 19 October 1937 in Millington, Kendall County, Illinois. She is buried at Millington-Newark Cemetery in Kendall county. William BROWN died in 1941.

Vashti's middle name of Woodcock comes from the birth record of her youngest child, Gladys, in the Kendall county, Illnois birth register.

I'm looking for any information about Vashti's parents and siblings. I'm happy to share the information I have about her descendants.

Eugene, according to his obit, was born in St Malo, France. I saw that their house was on the list of historic places-am hoping to find photo's of the family...
Jill

My g.grandparents lived in Fortune and moved to St. Pierre my grandfather was George Nelson Perha born there in 1884-1914. They all moved to North Sydney. George was lost at sea in 1914 on th S.S.Sharron of the coast of Ireland.
Passed mr g.g.g.grandparents numebers 4g. all came from England in the 1800's. Settling at Woody Island (WILLIAMS/PERHAM) and Pool's Cove.
Some still live in Pool's Cove today and others are in Fortune and St. John's.

peter_perham@hotmail.com

My husband is a grandson of O'Bannon Perham and Olive Stoddart Perham. Tari Moore who also posted is of the same family line. I was in contact with her at one time, but have since lost contact.

Maria Nicolarakis Perham

Liz, I see that you have had several responses to your query and none of them appear to be in line with the connections in Plymouth or Bristol so I will leave it go at that. I would still like to find out the source of the Perham name linked to Emma Huxtable Selley Farthing. It seems that all of her names are surnames with Farthing as her married name. She was born in Bristol but relocated to Plymouth. I never come across anyone from the Bristol area on the message boards, wonder why.

Liz, I was wondering if you had ever received any lead on your search for Olive Perham? I replied to your 23 May 2003 message in regards to your request for information with the response that the name was so similar to my grandfather's name of Oliver Perham Reginald Farthing even though your relative is female and wondering if there is any link between your search and mine with the Perham family of England. Have you done any research on the Perhams of that area? I don't have the slightest clue as to why my great granmother, Emma Huxtable Selley Farthing married to James Farthing named him that. I know that the Perham name was in her family so she used the surname as a first name to keep it alive as I'm sure she did with the name Oliver, also. I haven't been able to trace her ancestry as she was from Gloucestershire and records were not available for that area when I was doing my research five years ago. It may be as of today. I have just made contact with a distant relative of the Farthing family in Australia and she is now awaiting a reply to a possible living relative in Plymouth, England. After twenty years of off and on again searching, at last we have some success. Hopefully, it will be the same with the Perham name and we will find out why you and I have relatives with similar names.
