Seeking a direct desendant of Charles Perreault, Author

Charles Perrault (Jan 12 1628 – May 16 1703, both Paris).

Parents: Pierre Perrault and Paquette Le Clerc.

Charles Perrault had three brothers:

Pierre Perrault (1611?-1680)

Nicolas Perrault (1611?-1661?)

Claude Perrault (1613-1688)

In 1672 Charles Perrault married Marie Guichon.

She gave birth to three sons:

Charles-Samuel Perrault in 1675.

Charles Perrault in 1676.

Pierre Perrault in 1678 (Pierre Perrault Darmancour).

Marie-Jeanne Lhéritier de Villandon (Nov 1664 – Feb 24, 1734),
Perrault’s niece, also was a writer.

I received an email that would be of extreme interest to this family. If you can prove your relation (not to me and I will explain to those that contact me) contact me and I will give you the information. All I can say is it sounds rewarding.

You seem to have found everyone but a Perreault, which was my maiden name. You may be descended from Jean-Baptiste NICHOLAS Perreault, who was an ambassador from the Quebec government with the Native Canadian Indians, He became fluent in many of the native languages in the area around lower Quebec and the Great Lakes area. There is a monument to him, I believe in Wisconsin. He also had several children--his wife was from France--a "fille de roi." I could send you the names of the children, then you would need to go from there. There is a Perreault Family Organization you can access on-line, and also many vital and church records in Quebec, plus you have a choice whether to view these in French or English.
Good luck in your search.

First let me state I am not an expert on anything but include the information below based on what I have discovered in my own genealogy searches.

In French Canada, on church and official records the woman is usually listed with her first name and maiden name before she was married. Quite a few men and women could not read and write and the priest, doctors, lawyers and notaries could read and write. So the families often were unaware what was written in the baptism, marriage or burial records let alone know the correct spelling if they could not read or write. The priest, or the official would ask the parties involved what their names were and depending on if the party recording the information could decipher the french accent spelling got massacred. Or it was spelled the way the official thought it should be spelled. Or maybe the question was not understood and was answered wrong.
e.g. The marriage license of Francis Perrault and Catherine "Cournoyer" The official filling out the paper "What is your mother's maiden name. Answer Cournoyer, now Catherine becomes Catherine Cournoyer on the marriage license. Priests, Notaries and other official made mistakes all the time and if the parties involved can not read and write they can not correct the mistake,
Also in French Canada there has occurred a standardization of names. Perhaps Couchesne became standardized to Cournoyer. Brissette became Cournoyer. Perreault is now standardized to Perrault, but you will still find Perreault which started out as Perrot. Perrot and Perreault/Perrault are pronounced exactly the same is French "Per row"

The example of Joachim Cournoyer and Catherine Bergeron as the God parents of Catherine Perreault. They were husband and wife. They were married on 15 Oct 1867 St Pierre, Sorel, Richelieu, Quebec, Canada. So they were married at the time of the baptism of Catherine Perreault but Catherine is listed by her maiden name, Bergeron

Another possibility is that Joachim Cournoyer was closely related to Angele Corchesne who was married to Francois Perreault. If something were to happen to the parents Francois and Angele perhaps Catherine Perreault went to live with Joachim and Catherine (Bergeron) Cournoyer, her God parents, and took the last name Cournoyer for the sake of convenience.

Children of one family often went to live with their relatives family because of economic, illness, death or marriage problems.

In regard to your question about Joseph Paul Perreault born 6-28-1898 in Berthaville. I am sure it Berthierville in the County of Berthier. It may be a possiblity that Joseph Paul Perreault was born out of wedlock to Catherine Perreault and thus would have her last name if she was not married at the time of his birth.

When she married Joseph Theodore Joncas she was approximtely 43-44 years of age and Joseph Theodore was about 4 years younger then Catherine. Were there any children from the marriage of J-Theodore Joncas and Catherine.

These are the churches in Berthierville:
Ste-Geneviève reg:1727 (Catholic)
(protestant) Eglise Parole Vivante (Chuch of the Living word)
(anglican) reg:1824
(anglican) reg:1855-1952
(protestant) St.James Mission reg:1871-1927
(protestant) Christ Church reg:1859-1884

I hope this helps a little bit.

Contact me by email at djppep@msn.com if you would like further information

The Quebec Vital Church Records(Drouin Collection) 1621-1967 has the birth and baptism record of Catherine Perreault on 8 Apr 1874 at St Pierre in Sorel, Richelieu county, Quebec, Canada from the legitiment marriage of Francois Perreault and Angele Courchesne with Godfather (parrain) Joachim Cournoyer, Godmother (marrain) Catherine Bergeson. It is written in French. I just have a few years of French lessons and this is what I can determine. I hope this helps.
The dit names were often adopted as the last name when it came time to declare one last name in Canada or when crossing the boarder. My wife's family was Bricault dit LaMarche and it got shortened to LaMarche.

Catherine might have chosen to go by Cournoyer, her mother's maiden name.
Courchesene dit Brisset is the same as Cournoyer dit Brissette.

Catherine did not marry Francois Perrault, he was her father and her mother was Angele Brisset

Here is what the record books disclose:

Francois Perreault, born 26 Jan 1831, Berthier, M1 Mathide Berard, 11 Sep 1855, Sorel, and they had the following children:

1a.
Thanks. My problem with that line is not with Adeline. It is further back in her line with her ancestor Joseph. When he married his wife back in Canada - if he ever married her - there is no trace of the marriage and no record of who his parents were. That makes it impossible to connect him with the Auclair family. And, that is so unfortunate because so many of their ancestors have asked for my help, but I can get back only to 1856 when her ancestor, Joseph, married Olive Forget in Sainte-Croix-de-Dunham, but I have not been able to find the names of his parents, Joseph Auclair and Marie Sabourin. Therefore, I cannot connect this family to the Auclair's. If Joseph's name was anything but Joseph, I might have a better chance to figure it out, or to find the marriage, but I cannot. It is possible that they never married and, if that is the case, I will never find the connection. Thanks for any help, Nancy Auclair

Re: Albert Francis Perrault (1924-2000) son of Marie Estelle Kesterson

Hello, did you find this Albert Perreault? Do you know who his father was? Please respond and let me know because I am also searching for an Albert Perreault; he was the son of William Perrault (b. 1904 Massachusetts, d. 1969 Connecticut). I don't know where or when this Albert was born but it was some time between the mid 1920's and mid 1930's. I do know for a fact he was living in California in 1969 when his father "Willy" or "Bill" died in Connecticut - because he's mentioned in the obituary. I also have a couple of photos of this Albert in what appears to be a military uniform during the 1950's. Note this Albert is NOT the man described in the October 11, 2000 obituary below from the Hartford CT Courant paper.

(Below is Copyright @ The Hartford Courant 2000)

PERREAULT, Albert J., Jr.

Albert J. Perreault, Jr., 76, of Quorn Hunt Road, West Simsbury, husband of Priscilla (Given) Perreault, died Sunday, (October 8, 2000) at home. He was born April 21, 1924 in Burlington, VT, son of the late Albert J. Perreault, Sr. and Sara (Tooles) Perreault. He was a graduate of UVM, class of 1948, and was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Perreault was with Connecticut General (CIGNA) for 35 years, retiring as Director of Field Claims in 1984. In 1961, he was assigned to the Los Angeles claims office, and lived in Santa Monica where he was active in scouting and in 1962 he formed Boy Scout Troop #67. He lead the troop from 1962-1970 on monthly campouts and yearly treks along the John Muir Trail in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. In 1970, he moved his family back to Simsbury, where he remained until his death. He was again active in the Boy Scouts and also coached youth hockey in Simsbury. He was a board member of the Simsbury Historical Society, and an avid skier, fisherman, tennis and golfer. In recent years he became an enthusiastic backyard birder. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William and Chandra Perreault of Aspen, CO; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sarah Perreault of Boston, MA, and Lisa Wong and her husband, Dr. Phillip Wong of Albuquerque, NM; a brother, William Tooles Perreault of Port Townsend, WA; grandchildren, William and Itayi of Boston, MA, and Ashley and Heather of Albuquerque, NM. His family was central to his life and he instilled in his children a love of sports and the outdoors. He was predeceased by a sister, Jacqueline Howley of Burlington, VT. Friends may call at the First Church of Christ, Ellsworth Chapel, 689 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, Thursday, October 12, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Memorial service will be Friday, October 13, 1 p.m., at First Church of Christ, Simsbury, with Rev. Robert H. Naylor officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund at The First Church of Christ, 689 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT 06070 or Simsbury Volunteer Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 301, Simsbury, CT 06070.

One more thing. How does Omer J. Perreault fit into this? Did he have a son named Norman? Did Omer once live in Amesbury or one of the surrounding towns and work at Riche's Foodliner on Rt. 110 in Amesbury back around the 1970's. I thought I used to work with a older man with this name. And the age would have been appropriate also. I remember him being tall and thin with many wrinkles. Could this have been the same person?

I can't thank you enough for the information you have sent. It's like Christmas! My mother, Shirley Vedrani-LaBatte, daughter of Antoinette, did not know of this information. Adam would have been my great great grandfather. My grandmother, Antoinette, daughter of Adam and Marianna, did not talk much of her past. It was not a happy life therefore it was not mentioned. Born December 01,1906 in Chelsea, MA. She passed away on June 02, 2000. She resided in her home in Amesbury on her own until she became ill and was sent to a Nursing Home in Methuen, MA were she died approx. two weeks later surrounded by us, her family.

I recently went to the Portsmouth Cemetary and Durham to the local church to see if they had any records of where Piotsch (this is the spelling I got for Peter). This is what my grandmother told us also. But she never confirmed the spelling. I got this name from research of the ship he came over on with his mother Marianna. Anyways, the church has no records of his burial. They said if he came from a poor family it is possible he is buried in someone elses family plot. I remember my grandmother telling me of his death. I was the one who mentioned he was shot in Portsmouth while eating a ice cream cone sitting on the curb. That's when Marianna took the entire family back to Poland. She said there was less violence in Poland than here in America. These are the words of my grandmother, Antoinette. Later in life each one came back. I believe Antoinette was the only one who sailed back into Boston while the other sisters sailed to Ellis Island.

Do you know the birth order of Adam, Annie, Jan and Frank?

Who is Sigmund Uzarek and his relationship with all the mentioned? I have seen this name mentioned before but do not know of the relationship.

I do not have a membership to ancestory.com. They had a free trial period a few years ago and I was able to dig up a lot of information.

Please stay in touch. I would like to learn more or maybe share anything else I can find. My e-mail is cartier6263@verizon.net

Antoinette was my grandmother. She was married to Philip (one L) Vedrani. Antoinette maiden name was Uzarek. Her parents were Adam and Marianna Zumeda. My mother, Shirley, does not know what Antoinette's grandparents names are. My mother did say that Annie Skibicki is an aunt to Antoinette. Omer was the first husband to Marianna (aka Mary), Antoinette's sister. My mother did not know the name Gianetto. Please feel free to e-mail me with any information you may have. I am Antoinette's grand-daughter and have been somewhat researching the family also.

I can trace the Uzarek family only as far back as Adam’s father and mother – John Uzarek and Eva Heintz. Both probably born around 1820 in Poland.

Adam had a sister Annie and two brothers Jan and Frank (my grandfather)

Adam came to the US in 1901. Probably went back to poland and married Marianna since she came to the US to join him in Boston in1904 with her two year old son Piotr (Peter). Adam’s brother Jan accompanied them on the trip. Around 1911, little Peter was shot to death during a robbery while he was sitting on a curb eating an ice cream cone.

Adam had four daughters Antoinette, Veronica, Marriana and Adele.

Adam’s sister Annie married Felix skibicki and had 6 little Skibickis - 3 boy and 3 girls.

Adam’s Brother Jan sort of disappears after his 1904 trip to Boston. Suspect he may have returned to Poland.

His other brother Frank married Tofelia Olbrys and had 5 children: Benjamin, poss Antony, Pauline, Sigmund and John (my father)

I only have a couple of records on Benjamin and Antony. Benjamin registered for the WWI draft in 1918 and Antony died in Chelsea Mass in 1901.

Pauline married Frank Sulesky who then married Marianna Uzarek, Pauine’s cousin, after Pauline died.

Since I’m an only child and left Mass in 1960, any Uzarek in the MA, VT and NH area can be traced directly back to Sigmund Uzarek.

That’s pretty much the Uzarek faminly in a nut shell. You can check out the Uzarek family tree on ancestry.com for additional details – births, deths etc.
Omar was Marianna Uzarek's first husband. Norman J Perreault (1937-1998) was their son and apparently their only child.

I don't know the Perreaults and have no information on where Norman lived, worked or his appearance.

One slight correction to my earlier post - John Uzarek and Eva Heintz were probably born in the 1850's and not 1820's. Sorry for the typo but it was late at night.
