Doubt this is the branch you are after. I have the following:

John Peter, b. March 1685, Padstow
John Peter, b. May 1601, Padstow
John Peter, b. 1652, Padstow

And of course, John Peter, 1572, near Padstow.

No doubt they are all related on some level, but I have no matches for the children's names that you mention. Sorry!

K

Thanks for that, any idea of children? There seem to be a multitide of branches of the Peter family. The lot I am after were based in Devon in the 16th century, and are supposed to be cousins of the Bowhay Peters (also Devon)and the posher Petres, spelled differently, of Essex. I presume they were related to the Cornish Peters, but have no idea how. I am after John Peter senior, of Compton, Devon, attorney, mentioned in a conveyance in 1555, and his son, also John Peter, married first Emmeline Paris of Cullompton second, Susan Worth. He died 1626, buried at Marldon, Devon, with Emmeline. Son Abraham married Christian Lee. Abraham died 1632, also burried at Marldon.
I am working on a 1605 house built by John Peter, seems to have come from the Marldon branch of the family in Devon. I have come across one or two useful accounts of the Cornish branch. There is a book by B H Williams 'Ancient Westcountry Families and their armorial bearings' published in Pezance in 1916 which has a chapter called 'Petre of Devon and Peter of Cornwall'. Notes that William Peter, described as of Milton, Hampshire, married Jane, daughter of Sir Roger Arundell of Galwoodly Devon 'by whom he acquired the barton of Trenearn with Teator, Tregerran, Treniow and Trelowsa, in the parish of Padstow, Cornwall. Their only suviving son was John Peter of Bowhay, Devon, three times mayor of Exeter and MP for that city in 1554'. I can only find two instances of a John Peter being mayor of Exeter, so there may be a mix-up here.

I would be very interested if you come across anything about the 16th-century Peters at Marldon: John Peter senior was an attorney, I think. His son John married Emmeline Paris and he built a fine town house in Cullompton, in Devon. He is buried in Marldon church.

Barbara Duncan & John Peter, Auchterless, Aberdeenshire, Scotland

The following article was taken from the East Aberdeenshire Observer, dated Friday, May 18, 1877. I have no known connection to the family, but I have posted the information in case it is of assistance to someone else.

“DEATH OF A CENTENERIAN – The oldest inhabitant of the parish of Auchterless, Barbara Duncan or Peter, relict of the late John Peter, Haughs, died on Sunday morning at the extra-ordinary age of 108 years. She was hale and hearty until a few years ago, when, by an accident, her thigh was broken, which necessitated her confinement to bed ever afterwards. Still it was pleasant to hear and see her. She was of an eminently pious disposition, and found comfort for herself and matter for earnest counsel to those around her in the promises of the Gospel. During the past six months she has been at times unconscious, and has required a good deal of nursing. This, happily, she has received at the hands of a daughter, by whom she has been carefully tended. Mrs Peter was born at Newseat, Culsalmond, but has resided in the parish of Auchterless for the long period of 105 years. She had 8 children – 4 of whom survive – 29 grandchildren – 77 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.”

(Add Information/Notes: Barbara Duncan married John Peter 4 November 1800, Auchterless, Aberdeenshire. According to the IGI the records of two children’s baptisms exist:

John Peter, baptised 1 September 1805, Auchterless; and
Barbara Peter, baptised 1 July 1810, Auchterless.

The details of Barbara Peter (nee Duncan) death certificate are as follows:

1877 Deaths in the Parish of Auchterless in the County of Aberdeen

No. 11; Barbara Peter (widow of John Peter, Farmer), died 1877, May Twelfth at 11h 0m pm at Haughs, female, age 108 years. Parents: George Duncan, Agricultural Labourer (deceased) (mother blank). Cause: Old Age 109 years as cert by Geo. Bartlet M.R., C.S.Eng. Informant: George Morrison, son-in-law (present). Registered 1877, May 16 at Auchterless by Geo. Davidson, Registrar.)
My Maria Peter married Elias Abraham Baer in 1839
Birth May 1815 Lehigh Co, PA
Death 8 March 1894 Clinton Co., Ind.

We are having trouble locating the family of Maria. I am thinking it might have been the Casper Peter that lived at that time in Lehigh county PA

BTW, why did so many leave Lehigh Co. in the 1860s? The Civil War? We did get a great migration to Clinton Co IN back then.

Looking for information on James Samuel Peter and Annie Richardson. Their son Harold Winfield Peter was the father of my grandmother. Harold emigrated to Florida in the late 1800's and lived for the most part in the Tampa, Florida area. Thanks for anything you can do. The Islington caught my eye as this is on the census where Harold lived.
