Re: Myrno Moss and Philip Petermann

Dear Ms. Gumm:

Myrno is the correct spelling.

She and her husband Phillip did return to live in Calumet following their Santa Fe wedding and lived out the remainder of their lives on Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula. Myrno and Phillip had been High School sweethearts and when the Moss' moved to the southwest for Mrs.Moss' health, Phillip folowed Myrno there to continue the courtship. Phillip's family, the Petermanns, were prominent members of the community and included mine captains, grocers, soldiers, and attorneys.

Myrno herself had trained formally as a photographer and did a fair amount of photography for one of the Petermann's businesses, the Keweenaw Printing Company. A business once located in Calumet's Union Building--a building now owned by the National Park Service.

In 2002 the widower of Myrno and Phillip's only child, Jean Petermann Kemp Zimmer, donated Myrno's photographs (over 7000 images) to Keweenaw National Historical Park (National Park Service).

Her images document the folkways and business community of the Keweenaw from 1908 to 1938 and are invaluable in the park's efforts to tell the story of copper mining and the communities that served the mines.

If you still posess the announcement and would be interested in it coming to the park, please call or email Museum Curator Brian Hoduski (906) 337-1104 x251

Thank you

Myrno Moss and Philip Petermann

I found a wedding announcement from 1915 for Myrno (not sure of spelling) Moss and Philip Petermann. I found it in an antique shop and would like to return it to the family of Myrno and Philp. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. A.P. Moss and the marriage took place in Santa Fe. The happy couple then lived in Calumet, Michigan. Please respond if this is your family.
