Peters, Ohio 1811-1944

Daniel Peters was born in 1811 in Virginia and lived in Guernsey and Hocking Counties,Ohio. He married Lucretia Jackson. They had four children: Lucinda(1838), Mary (1842), William Henry (1845/1849?), and John (1850).

William Henry Peters was born on Jan. 15, 1849, in Guernsey, Ohio and died on Jan. 27,1919, in Columbus, Ohio. He married Della Amanda Gillespie who was born on Aug. 15, 1860 to Baker and Rebecca Bower Gillespie. Della died on Aug.15, 1933. They are both buried at Union Cemetary in Columbus. William and Della had four children(that I know of) while living in Hocking County: Louis Jackson(June 8,1875),William Baker(March 5, 1877). Daisy L., and Frank J. The family moved to Columbus in the late 1800's.

William Baker Peters worked his adult life for a Columbus paint company. He was married to Minta, Elizabeth, and Bertha. He died on Dec.1,1944 and is buried at Union Cemetary, Columbus.

! am researching the Peters' family and would appreciate any information.

I remember you had 2 children = a daughter (can't remember her name) and a son Peter Oliver, as I recall. Do you still reside in Vermount? Would love to hear from you.

Update - I've found his details - his name is actually Charles Robert Peters and dob 1886 in Fulham, London. I found his information on the India Office 1933 list - I ordered his birth certificate from GRO and his parents were listed on it (thank goodness!). From that information I have been able to go back to 1808 (so far).

Robert Charles Peters b. 1875 Kent, UK

Hi,
I'm searching for information regarding my grandfather Robert Charles Peters born 1875 in Kent, UK (his parents, g/parents etc). He spent some time in India as part of the British/India Police. He married Mabel Georgina Fairbairn b. 1890 in the UK (I have extensive information on this side!) but am finding it difficult to find any info that goes further back on the paternal side (possibly because of his career...?) Any info would be much appreciated.

I wanted to mention that I see no mention of a child "Jacob" born 1796 to Henry Peter according to Adams County Church Records of the 18th Century.

Also, the Mary (Polly) b.1798 apparently was married to Slaybaugh, then Weidner * so was not a Maiden aunt. Perhaps it was instead M. Machtalena who like the earlier Jacob is also not listed as a child of Henry in the church records. If living, she would have been in her 20's around the time Jacob Hartzell Jr. was born. Too bad those earlier censuses don't list family member names.

The Peters, Slaybaughs and Hartzells were immediate neighbors according to my land records.

*Source: genealogicaljourneys.com/cschnerr.htm

Hello,

I've been following this Peter's line myself trying to make sense of it. Henry Peters of Menallen Twp was born in 1764, married to Elisabeth Schnerr (sp),
As far as I can tell from a source who referenced church records, the daughters listed earliest are M. Magdalena (1789) and Elisabeth bracketed as (1791)--theses may be part of the 3 females listed in the 1790 census.

I have not yet been able to determine any names of children born to Henry and Elisabeth S. after 1800 without a visit to church records for that century.
It is possible that the "Polly" you noted is Maria (Mary) 1798 but that is not proven.

Not sure if it was one of your posts that stated Jacob Hartzell married a daughter of H. Peters who then died after giving birth in 1813 to a son, also named Jacob Hartzell who went to live with "maiden aunts" Polly and Julia.

The 1850 Menallen census lists a "Polly Peters" (60) and a Juliann Peters (45) living with Solomon Peters (48) and his wife Mary, also called Polly.
In 1790 census, there was a Molly (Mary?) Peters listed as living adjacent to the Hartzells with another female.

I have not determined what the relationship between Solomon and Henry Peters is. If the older women in the 1850 census are his sisters, perhaps Solomon is Henry's son.

What source do you have for your info about Polly and Julia?

Thanks,

I have not posted about this line for four years. I have some newer information. I cannot verify if this is accurate, since I got it from various unknown sources.

I have Jacob Peters (son of George Peters), born 1717 in Switzerland, emigrated to Philadelphia in 1732, died in Northampton Co., PA, in 1788. He married Elizabeth UNKNOWN abt 1759 and had two sons, John Ulrich Peters (1760-1842) and Henry (Heinrich) Peters (1764-1846).

John Ulrich Peters married Catarina Schlebach, and they had the following children:
Catharine (m. Christian Rice)
Susanna (m. Daniel Rice)
Barbara (m. John Rice)
Hannah (m. Peter Guise)
Heinrich/Henry (m. Nancy Mowery and Elizabeth Crum)
John (m. Susanna Group)
Maria (m. John Mowery)
Eve (m. Jacob Group)

Henry Peters married Lisabeth (you say Elisabeth Schnerr), and they had the following children:
Johannes (1787)
Maria Machtalena (1789)
Elisabeth (1791-1816) m. to Jacob Hartzell
Hanna (1792)
Henry (Heinrich)(1794)
Jacob (1796)
Maria (Polly)(1798)
Sara (1800)
Solomon (1802)
Julia (1803)
Daniel (1806)
Jacob (1807)

I also saw Sujiwan's post about my Peter Rice connection, and I too discovered the three Peters sisters married to the three Rice brothers.

There are also multiple connections between the Hartzells, the Rices, the Peterses, the Schlebachs, and other families.

I have been trying to find a connection through my great great grand father Dave or David Merrian Peters born in illinois around 1848 and I believe married to Margret? he had a number of children including my great grandfather Lee S. Peters married to Ara or Arrie. and two daughters who were living with him during the 1920 census, Ollie, and Oler who married an unknown Lenard and was widowed shortly thereafter, with two children, Margret and Rutha. It was passed down through the family that Dave might have been a river boat captian, and for some reason made his way to Louisiana where he lived until he died. I cannot however find a birth or marriage record on him, and the 1920 census was the latest record I have been able to find. if anyone has any information please let me know.

Maybe you have info on John's other kids they seem to have been rather sparse on the official paperwork front. So I haven't been able to find much. Oh! John and Lottie did have another daughter after getting to Spokane, but since so many Spokaners have property in Idaho trying to figure out where anyone would be is a pain.

Hoping to hear from you so we can swap more info.

No links offered BUT our forebear (William Martin, Broadmoor Blacksmith) appears to be next door neighbour on Broadmoor Estate on Census 1871. Have recently visited Berkshire Record Office and Robert Peters is listed in the Register of Staff under the title "Mattress Maker".

Hello

I don't have the reference of the school admissions register to hand - I may not have those notes now sorry. If I find will forward to you.

It is archived separately from the Broadmoor Estate papers but the staff directed me to it after I saw in the introduction to the index of the Broadmoor archive that there had been an estate school for the children of the asylum workers.

It is on microfiche (along with all school records) but I found the fiche unreadable (water damage) and asked for the original which was duly produced. It has a front index, then the entries were simply made chronologically as each child entered the school. Eg
Broadmoor School Admissions Register
Entry No 387 in School admissions register
Date: 1875

"No 387, Caroline Martin, Admitted to school 9 Aug 1875; father William Martin, Blacksmith, Broadmoor. Exact date of birth: 29 July 1872. Date of leaving school: 4 Dec 1875."

Also (which I did not copy out) were grades of attainment. Father's names were noted but not mother's names. One line was allocated to each new entrant.

Caroline was the youngest of about 6 children, but unfortunately there did not seem to be any earlier school record than about 1872. However, it is known that the school in its embryonic form existed in the 1860s. This is mentioned in the preamble to the main index of the Broadmoor collection.

best
Janet Kinsey

Hello! My father, Richard J. Peters Sr. (born 1926) is the only child of Joseph J. Peters (born 1899, Saint Paul Park, MN) and Irene M. Peters (nee: Labeau). Joseph J. (dec. 1960) was the youngest son of Frank J. Peters and Elizabeth Bartholome. We were also acquainted with Grandpa Joe's cousin, Peter W. Bartholome, who was the Bishop of the St. Cloud diocese for many years. I hope this helps fill in some balnks for you. Feel free to get back to me if you need more info. Kind regards, Dick Peters
