My mothers name was Linda Mae Banks of Digby. The 'Banks' family still resides there. She was 16 years old and worked for Joesph Petitpas in an office enviroment. I was born in Montreal though, and my mother then married Maurice Mashal. All I have is my biological fathers name. I know its not much, and Im sorry. But getting any further information isn't possible.

Best Regards
Mark

Im sorry for the intrusion on this email tread, but as far as any search goes, you sometimes stumble onto the weirdest things. If I am correct, I understand that you are somehow related to the Pettipas family. I recently found out that my biological fathers names was Joseph Pettipas of Nova Scotia. I was born in July 1967 and my mother, Linda May Banks was 16 years old at the time. I have no other information about my biological father other than what I have already told you. Are you able to offer any additional information other than this? Obviously anything would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Mark Mashal - markmashal@gmail.com

Drew, I have an Issac Petitpas in my line also. I have him married to Saint Martin Dugeret is this the same one? I got the info from the rootsweb Family Trees search. Byron Goodwin has alot on this line. Issac is one of my ggggggrand-fathers on my mothers side of the family. Until I went to this site I have not been able to trace my mothers side of the family. But now I have to get more paper to start recording her side as I get everything in order. Let me know if this helps I can give you more info on down the line.
Thank You,
Veronica
ruraldist_13@yahoo.com

Re: Claude Petitpas ~ website info discrepency
In case you have not notice there is a MAJOR screw up in those info....!!!

Claude PETITPAS - born 1624 CANNOT be a Royal Notary in 1639 it is IMPOSSIBLE... he is only 15 yrs old... someone who is underage cannot be a notary and even less a Royal Notary...
He could be an apprentice clerk, a student or something in along those lines, but definatly not a Notary at age 15...
If he was close to his 30's, having reach that position would be possible... being a Royal Notary demands a certain level of experience and training.

There was 2 different Claude Petitpas in Acadia at this time... and even though proof of filiation has not been found it is most probable that the older Claude Petitpas could either be the father or the uncle or is at least related to Claude Petitpas #2 and his most probably the one responsible for bringing Claude #2 to Acadia.

White does not attach them together because he did not find documentation to proove it without a doubt and since no other children were found for Claude #1, comparing marriage dispensation amongs his descendants and Claude #2 descendants is not possible either.

My husband Louis descends from Claude Petitpas in three lines through his mother Caroline Petitpas. His family is traced thru over a thousand ancestors. Stephen White at the Univ. of Moncton, N.B. is the expert who helped him. I wrote two books.

Re: Isaac Petitpas

Regarding your search for Isaac Petitpas: Where did you get this information that he was the father of Claude Petitpas, ancestor of this family? According to Stephen White's latest research on this family: "Claude Petitpas was the "syndic" at Port-Royal in 1639. No one knows of any link between him and a second Claude Petitpas, born circa 1626, who became court clerk of the same place." This second Claude (1626) married Catherine Bugaret, and as of the latest reports, his father (parents) remain unknown! Please recheck your sources for the accuracy of this Isaac/Claude as father/son relationship, as to my knowledge, none such relationship exists. In over 25 years of Acadian research, I have never seen ANY solid documentation of such, and Claude is one of my ancestors.

And as for the name change of PETITPAS to PITRE; this is either a census taker's error, or it was copied wrong, or confused by someone in another message on this site; as BOTH families lived at Port-Royal, the PETITPAS family (today known as PETTIPAS in much of Nova Scotia, but still PETITPAS in Quebec) and the PITRE family (today known as PETERS on PEI).
Re: Anne Petipas m. Jacques Girouard ~ Acadie / Acadia
Please see the reply I posted to your query on the Girouard board.

The Marie Josèphe GIROUARD who married Charles LANDRY is the niece of Jacques GIROUARD & Anne PETITPAS, not their daughter.

Stephen White, in his dictionnary, prooved Marie Josèphe GIROUARD ligneage using various documents.

By the way, Charles LANDRY died 1727-11-05 in Port Royal... and Marie Josèphe GIROUARD remarried in Port Royal 1754-02-11 with Zacharie THIBODEAU (who was a cousin 3rd generation) son of Antoine THIBODEAU & Marie PRÉJEAN.

Happy Hunting!

I suggest:

Dictionnaire Généalogique des Familles Acadiennes by Stephen A. White (book)

www.metisduquebec.ca - see the genalogical section

You will find both those ressources quite interesting.

You can also visit our website, though I'm not sure that this line is all in yet!
http://www.geninfo.org

And don't forget the post I made to you on the GIROUARD Board for more details:
http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/.2ACZ.2ACEB/102.2

And you can e-mail me direct... just click on my name to get my e-mail address.
