Hi John; They dropped the "i" from my name also. My grandparents Thomasz & Zofia (Brzyzinski)left Wasewo, Poland in the late 1800's and moved to Brazil.
They left and moved to Westfield Mass in 1912. If any of this rings a bell, I have much more info. Ken Petras

The place where this PETRAS family came from was Aivali in Turkey and my husband's grandfather left in about 1915 and went to Limnos via Lesvos. Please contact me with any PETRAS information,

My husband's name is Harry Petras and his father is Konstandinos Petras. They now live in Australia (Melbourne) but Harry was born on Limnos and the history of the family incloudes their movement from Turkey to Greece in the early 20th century. Harry would be most interested in hearing from you.

My husband's family has the same background (coming from Turkey - but in their case to Limnos) and his name is Harry Petras, and his father is Konstadinos Petras. They now live in Australia, - Melbourne. My husband would be very interested in hearing from you.

I have not done much research on Petras,but ready to move on to this family name.My great-great grandmother's maiden name was Alsbeta Petras(ova).Village most of family lived in was Husak,on Eastern border Slovakia and the Ukraine.She married Pavol Dankulic,they remained in Slovakia.Her children
came to USA.Daughter Anna married into Rosko family and they did go back to Slovakia after only a couple yrs in USA aound 1989.Daughter Elizabeth married into Fecik(Fechick)family,they lived in Mckeesport,PA. 3rd daughter Mary married Popovich and lived in NY.Their son Paul Dankulich lived in NY. I have plenty of info on their children but not much on the Petras line.Any info would be welcome.

There's a genealogy report for William Frank Wotus, the Kustwan's are included in that report.

I am researching Katherina Petras, born Nov 1853 in Corcovec, Bohemia. She married Martin Pekarek in 1876 and had 4 children in Bohemia, Martin, b 1877, Charlie, b 1882, James, b 1885 and Frank, b 1887. They came to the US and settled in Chicago, in 1887 or 1888 and had 4 more children. Annie, b 1888, Bessie, b 1892, Robert, b 1894, and Edward, b 1896.

I am looking for information about Jan Petras (b. 1853) that I believe immigrated to Texas from Austria (I don't believe that he was born here, but I'm not sure). He was married to Veronika (maiden name not known). I can't find him on any of the immigration lists to Galveston. He just seems to have "appeared".

Hi Lucille, I was so pleased to get your message though I am sorry to hear that Peg passed away. I told that my grandmother and she was very sorry too. As far as I understand, Peg was my grandmother’s cousin. My grandmother Maria was very glad to learn that she still has some other cousins in the USA. Maria has also a sister Zuzana and brother Vladimir living here. I also think that that my father’s greatgrandmother Dorothy could have been your grandmother’s Emma sister. Dorothy was Tony Vojtkovsky’s mother. I will soon try to find out more about Petras who live in our area. There are no Petras living in Novoveska Huta now, but there some in Spisska Nova Ves. (Novoveska Huta is a small village near the town of Spisska Nova Ves.) I will look for the children or grandchildren of Michal Petras. As for Martin and Joseph, Maria cannot think of anybody in the family with these names. She knows of Milan and Jan who would also Tony’s nephews and the picture of them could have been sent to Tony.

HiZuzana, Cannot send you an e-mail message except through this message board. Your e-mail address says user is not listed. But I have much information to relate to you I think that I might have a picture of your Grandmother Maria, and her husband also a picture of my godfathers nephews, the names are Martin and Joseph, do they sound familiar. It is a Christmas card, they are standing and holding two candles, it almost looks like a First Holy Commuion picture. I had written to the mayor of Spisska Nova Ves, back in October of 2000 and never had heard anything I also enclosed a letter for him to forward to anyone with the last name of Petras or Vojtkovsky. I also had gotten some addresses from a lady in the area of Spisska Nova Ves, on the internet. I wrote three letters to Petras addresses, and two to the Voktkovsky addresses, that was also in October of 2000, and have not heard anything from them. I do not know the Slovak language, it was written in English. So I do not know if it was received. From what I have been able to find out in my research, my fathe Louis Petras also came from the Novaveska Huta area. His father's name was Michael or Mihal, and his father's name was John. But that is as far as I am able to go. Surely they had some brothers or sisters that they left behind when they came to the United States. Could you be of any help with this. I would appreciate it. My name is Zuzana and I come from Spisska Nova Ves, Slovakia. Recently I came across your research concerning your family ancestors. I don’t know much about Petras, but you also mentioned name Anthony Vojtkovsky. That sounds very familiar to me. My father’s grandmother Anna had a brother called Anthony Vojtkovsky. He emigrated to the USA and lived in Mt. Pleasant Pa, Westmoreland. He used to write also to my grandmother Maria (as he was her uncle). She was also informed about his death. My father’s family come from Novoveska Huta which was previously called Igla Huta. I think that your godfather Anthony Vojtkovsky may have been Maria’s uncle. As far as I know, he had children. It would be great to find out more about his family he left behind and maybe get in touch with them. I was hoping that perhaps you could bring some light to this matter. I don’t know how far you got with the research with Petras in Slovakia and whether you wrote to the mare of Spisska Nova Ves, but if there is anyhow I could help, it will be my pleasure to do it. Hi,I recently found that my grandfather (John Petras) was born in Bohemia...I do not know what his father's name is, but his mothers maiden name is Dincek, or a similar spelling....I was always told that they came from Czechoslovakia... If the Dincek name means any thing, I would appreciate any findings on your part,,,Detko came here from Europe, located in Little Falls, NY, met and married my grandmother (Elizabeth Sadlon) in Little Falls, had 3 kids, first one died and was buried in Europe,,they were visiting there at that time,,, they had 2 more kids, Anna 1912, my mom, and a son Samuel, 1914...
grandfather had many brother that followed him to the USA,all of the sisters stayed in Czeck------Their are many Petras's that moved to Michigan and CA,,,

My email is FEATH52872@aol.com. Thank you, I would love to hear all that you have found through your research. Yes, I am one of the daughters of Irene Hannososky. Sadly to say, my mom also passed almost 2 years ago. It will be 2 years on June 21st. She married Ralph Walton and had 6 children, in order by the oldest: Sharon, Joyce, Marsha (passed in 1987), Gail, Debbie, and Ralph E.
Mom had a brother, Frank Hannososky who passed about 10 years ago. I remember Gramma
Petras, I was very young at the time, but she lived with my Gramma Emma for a time. We
use to have a picture of her, but I'm not sure where it is now. I know that I have some old photo's here somewhere, and I will do my best to find them, I could scan them for you. Also, I do know that somehow there is an extension to the family by the last name of Horn or Horne. If you don't have any information on this, please let me know and I will ask my older sisters about this. I do know that they live (or did) somewhere

Jan may have come to America from Sandorf , Hungry, now Slovakia, to live with the Valent family. I am also searching for infomation on John and Anna Petras. Except my John and Anna lived in PA. I did find a record of Johann and Anna Petras entering Ellis Island with their 4yo son Johann about 1912. Hope that helps.

My husband's paternal grandmother was Kristina PETRAS Kovac b. 8/28/1885 in Hluboka, (which I believe might have been Southern Bohemia at the time) she was the daughter of Martin Petras b. 1870 in Hluboka and Anna Matula b. 1870 in Nitra and died in 1903 in Nitra. After her death Martin Petras moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan to live with another daughter. I don't know this daughter's name and his daughter Kristina although living here in New Jersey never saw her father again after she left Slovakia in 1911. Martin Petras died in Michigan January 16, 1941.

If this means anything to anyone please let me know.
