Petries of Liverpool and Scotland UK
Dear All,
I am not really a searcher for roots, but it may be of interest to somebody who is. My family are Petries originally from somewhere in Scotland ( never tried to look). My great grandfather was a Scotsman married to an Irish man and at one time in about 1908 he was the engine keeper and later harbour master at Langton dock in Liverpool. He had a lot of sons most of who I do not know but some family rumours are that they dispursed around the world, the names I can remember are Richard who went to Australia and got killed by sharks. Another is Jack who was a sailor out of Liverpool and also a male family name as is William. A member of the family also went, as far as I know, to the Klondyke in the goldrush. The family originally came down from Scotland because the fishing fleet they owned sank in astorm in about 1880 and great grandad who had also been a Royal Navy captain came down to Liverpool. My own grandfather who was a pharmacist and sometimes worked for the Liverpool school of tropical medicine collecting plants from all over the world died and was buried at sea in about 1918. His wife Sarah Cheshire remarried again. I know its not much but it may help if your looking.
