My father had (Andrew Petro) had an Aunt Bertha. We used to visit her when we lived in Cleveland. Her maiden name would have been Plovetsky. My grandmother was Mary, who had brothers Bill, Paul, and Joe. Parents Barbara and Vince Plovetsky who lived in Portage Township Pa.

I am one of the Petro cousins also; your father Emil was my uncle. I am the daughter of Andrew Petro. Mary and Emil, wow. Mary was born Mary Plovetsky in Pa. You can search for Vince and Barbara Plovetsky in St. John the Baptist Hungarian Cemetary in Portage Township Pa. where they are buried. Aunt Irene remembers going to church there as a child when visiting grandparents. EmilPetro, your grandfather came from the same town in Hugary as the Plovetsky's so looked them up when arriving in the early part of the 20th century, I think 1916ish.

Anyway I remember you when you were a baby. My family moved to Tucson. I remember fondly going to visit your family Marietta(?) when I was young.

I think you still have contact with my brother Paul in Ohio.

Hi Jay,
I am one of your many Petro cousins. My grandfather was Emil Petro and my father was his son Emil Michael Petro which I believe was Barbara's brother.
We are at a dead end for both Emil and Grandmother Mary. I am afraid I did not know many of the Petro siblings very well. Most moved out to California while my family stayed in Ohio.
We were wondering if you could help us out. We would really enjoy getting some more information about our grandparents history.

If your ancestors were naturalized citizen or had social security numbers than those 2 forms should have a place of birth. You need to locate a precise place of birth to proceed with the research.

I'm new at researching my family tree and need some guidence to start my Mother's side of Family Tree.
My Grandmother's surename was Mary Petro(Birescik) Born 1911-Death 1983 in Clairton,Allegheny PA.
Her father was Mike Petro Born abt1874 in Checkloslavakia -?, his wife Mary Chupak Born abt1875 in Checkloslavakia.
They resided in 1930 in Clairton,Allegheny,PA.
All relatives knowing more than this are deceased.
I am trying to locate more information on Petro but nothing seems to be matching up.
Any guidence on where and how to continue research on Petro or Birescik would be so appreciated.

Leah. I came across your message. Anna Petro did not come to America with her husband, Mike Jupina.
Mike (Mihaly) came here with your great great grandfather John Jupina when John was 16. I believe his father, Mike, went back home to be with his wife and possiby other children. I lost his trail during my research shortly after he arrived in America. I was able to follow John though all of his life.

Do you have an Anna in your bunch? My anna married Mike Jupina and had children in 1881 so I'd have to assume she married before that. I would love to trade info with you if you see that there might be a connection.

Our Petro family came from Hungary, (towns called ~"Altergudge" & "Feltergudge", which loosely translate into generic towns of Uptown & Lowertown) but also lived in Cleveland for a while.

Kristi: Happened to come across your posting. I'm sure by now you have received information regarding the Bruzina family. Michael Bruzina, as mentioned in your email, was my father-in-law. He passed away in August of 2005. I will check but I believe there is only one living sister in PA still. I cannot recall if it is Sue or Sophia. Let me know if you are still in need of information. At Michael's funeral we had a DVD of some of the brothers/sisters in the Bruzina family. I would be happy to copy for you if you are still interested.

my petro probly came over in 1901 or so......Anna Petro possibly born around 1860 or so.....she married Mike Jupina (Mihaly). they had two children that I know of: John (b. 1881) and Joseph (b. 1883) They were from Czechoslovakia and settled in Cleveland. I know nothing about Anna's family or brothers and sisters she might have. Let me know if this sounds familiar!

My records show that Charles Preston Petro was the father of Charles W.. Petro, and Charles W. Petro and Myrtle Mae Woods were the parents of Clifford Petro,

I just got this info and I have not backed it up, it did come for a family member of the Petro family.

No dates were given to me.

I am trying to trace my Grandmother's family on my Dad's side of the family. My Grandmother's maiden name was Mary Eliza (Elisa) Petro born in Sept. 1887 in Gettysburg South Dakota. Here parents were Horace Greely Petro and Aletha Ann Cox. Grandmother imigrated to Canada in 1907. Any assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks and CHEERS!!!

Would Mort Petro and his wife, Melvina Hester fit into your family trees in any way?

Can't find a trace of them in Indiana after they married. Melvina was born in 1866 in Hendricks County.
