I'm searching for information tying together Daniel Pettibone, my ancestor and Josiah Nichols who held a patent (or several patents, granted 22 Dec 1802, for welding steet to cast iron (Source: American State Papers).

They also applied (or Daniel did) for renewal 25 Feb 1818, though that one was denied. Patent Renewal Application: American State Papers, Miscellaneous, Vol 2, p 490.

How did they meet? From what I've learned, Daniel had several other patents, as well. Ezekiel was an armorer in the Revolution, moving up and down the Hudson River (NY) from Peekskill as far north as far N as Van Schaik's Island, not far from Albany.

I believe Daniel was too young to be in the Revolution, so how did they meet? I wonder if one of the Revolutionary Pettibones (MA Sailors and Soldiers) had met Ezekiel, and Daniel was the son of one of them.

Daniel seemed to move around a bit, so perhaps they met in some town. Ezekiel was from MA, is in Washington County NY in the 1790 census, and later moved to Cooperstown, NY.

Any clues, and hints gratefully received! TIA
