Reply to Dan Sullivan.
My Mother, Doris Pettit Maudsley is half sister of Cyril Pettit. She was daughter of Cyril's father by second marriage. Have heard many stories of her visits from Welland to rochester to stay weekends with Teresa. Have a good handle on the Pettit side of the family. I recognize the name Emmett sullivan. I grew up in Welland. Any info that I could help with, please just ask.

WILLIAM PETTIT, milling, Leonardsburg; is a son of William and Mary A. (Rhineer) Pettit ; his father was born in Ohio ; he was thrown out on his own efforts by his father's early death ; his first labors were at rural life, at $10 per mouth ; a part of the time he was making rails ; he has cut the timber and split 250 rails per day ; at the age of 26, he began working at carpentering with Moses Kale, of Salem, Columbiana Co. Was married, in 1861, to Mary J., daughter o George and Catharine Richmond ; her parents were from New Jersey ; they have seven children -Florilla, Elizabeth J., Dora, Hattie, Martin, Charlie, Stella. He worked for a man by the name of Martin for some time, and then worked over one year for R. Doty, at Eaton Station, in the saw-mill business ; he then built a house, and afterward sold the same to Jeremiah Woods for $800 ; he then farmed in Troy Township for some time, after which he bought twenty acres, which he traded in 1878 to L. M. Cackler, for his present mill property, which he now has in good running order ; he and wife manage the mill, and last year cleared over $800 ; they sawed, from Oct. 1, 1878, to Oct. 1, 18 79, 331,442 feet of lumber, netting them, for sawing, $1,325.76. Mrs. Pettit's parents had twelve children-Martin, Peter, Henry, Mary J., Cyrus, Amy, Augusta, Elvira, Albert, Letta, Nettie, Lester; she was born Dec. 12, 1844. Mr. Pettit's first tax receipt was 10 cents.

Hope this helps!

David and Jane were my GGreat Grandparents. My great Grand-father was Joseph Pettit ( b. 1829) who was the brother of James R. (twin)(b.1837). Does this match your info? I found their ancestors on ancestry.com. At that time, the contact person was Pat reagan at patreagan@hawaii.rr.com. She has some of Jane's family back to the 1600's. She has the Pettit line back into the 1600's, but not as complete as of 2001. I have an isolated copy of a signature of a Jonathan
Pettit as the passenger of some ship in 1680 but haven't connected the early generations of the pettit line. I'm at
dcjxyz@yahoo.com if I can help any further. Haven't been
actively seeking info for a few years, but now that I am retired hope to start up again. Dottie

I am a descendent of Silas I. (as in Irving and not J. - the Census was wrong) Pettitt. I have a hand-written note indicating he had brothers Charles E. and Robert (no initial) but no other siblings were mentioned. Jacob Pettit and Hannah Johnston are included in the hand-written record. The note also indicates that Silas and his brothers added the extra 't' which has carried on since then.

Search for S.I. Pettitt in Mantorville, MN and Faribault, MN and you'll get some info. I'm in the process of gathering more information myself, so let me know if you want to learn more.

Thank you. Somehow I didn't have the 1910 Census record. I will add Adeline to my family. I remember my mother speaking about an aunt, sister of her mother, who died young. I believe my mother said her aunt was married and had a child. That fits your grandmother.

Annie Donovan, as well as her parents, and my grandmother Rebecca Pettit Dankenbrink, my grandmother's sister Gertrude Pettit, and about ten others are also buried in the same plot at Calvary Cemetery.

There are many descendents still living in the New York City area including my sister.
