All Pettys are connected one way or another. I don't have any in Texas I'm aware of. Have you tried Find a Grave. I have found some success there. I kept going back there and after about five years some one had just joined and they had a picture of one of my relatives.

I was told it was frances but can not find a frances only franki/ her dob 1863 in texas, she married a william white about 1884. she had a son john fredick higgins, then a charlie white and a van white. I know its not much to go on....... thank you, mary

Have you tried getting a death certificate?

Since he died in 1937 there should be a death certificate which should have the names of his parents.

I have a Lucy Petty, b.1824 Burning Springs, West Virginia. I have info on her parents and siblings but not her.

Simpson Fuller and his wife Grizella Drennan. She was married to Francis Marion Petty in Marshall texas in July 1867. She was my GGMother.Contrary to inscription on headstone, she was not born in Mobile, Alabama, instead,
it should read Talladega, Alabama.

Hi, I think that I have all you want. I found a document on line only to discover that they got it from me. I am trying to copy it back to make it easy but am having some problems. On the little green leaf for J.F. Petty, click on it and go down to Roots and Branches family tree, Joyce Stephens is the owner. I have to take my married daughter to a doctor app., but wanted to give this to you first. It was J.F. applying for Indian grant money What is interesting to me is the post office he named as his, is my grand father's post office I mentioned to you in Cove, Ok. His brother Mary Ross was his first wife. I have more information on her in my grandmother's bio. (I think) This really gives the confirmation you need. Let me know if this helps. SHERMAN

I was about to close down when I read you was not sure if James K. was your great gr. grandf. I can give you what I have: James F. born 1868 in Adamsville, Tn. and Died in Fairlane, Ok. I have him on all my records as son of James K. If you want I can send you an invitation to my family tree and you can see what I have. I am closing for night and probably won't be on line until tomorrow afternoon. It sounds like we are cousins. I will put her name in as Mary J. Ross married to James F. (I just read again and see you call him James Frederick. This is my hang up as everything I have calls him James Franklin. Sherman

Yes, I have my number and blue card.........We have the testimony of our maternal great grandfather, Henry Price Wood......both our grandparents are on the rolls......can go way back on the Wood side, but the Petty side is confusing....was James K. Petty our great great grandfather or not? I'm not sure because of the confusion with middle name=Frederick or Franklin? it's good to correspond with you.......

I have checked my records that have been past down to me that his middle name was Franklin. Is that what you show? I read somewhere where someone had a different middle name. Maybe I put too much faith in the Dawes Roll; I tend to believe what it says as it is an official govt. document--and you know we can alway trust what the govt. tells us!!! Have you received your Cherokee Registration number. Because they do their own research when you apply. I had to show my hertiage back to my grandmother who was full blood. In my case it wasn't hard because my grandmother wrote a biography that traced it back to about 1750. If you have enough information and apply you will know, because they won't register you with the dawes number and your own data for them to check. You can pay them to research I think? Sherman

I think the reason my grandfather, George Ross Petty, had Indian blood must have been through his mother, Mary J. Ross---James F. Petty first wife (I think, maybe that's why there is confusion). But I don't think James Franklin Petty was his father unless someone put wrong info on the Dawes Roll.....it clearly states that his mother was Sarah........

Well,--I got you on years! I'll be 69 this year. I pulled my list for they dawes roll numbers; and I can find my grandmother,but not my grandfather John Greenberry Petty. She could by her mother obtained numbers for them just like I did from my mother's number. I don't find James K.,but James K. died 1900 six years before the dead line for registering. I have looked in the past for a Petty connection to the Cherokees but no luck. My grandfather John Petty ran a store and post office on the reservation and could only have done that by his wife blood line. I would be very interested in what you have on this. James K. has been a mistery as he had a wife before Sarah longwith. Would you know who? What does the K. stand for. Can you tell my anything about his Civil War Duties. I'll share that with you when I relocate it. I have a article here I'll have to find on the Petty history. I think it is English. In the mean time can you give me statistic dates for James Franklin and his wife. Good talking with you

Thanks so much for answering but I'm 63 and James K. was my great-great grandfather and on our Indian papers it clearly shows Frederick.......My great grandmothers name was Mary J. Ross before she married James F. But she must have passed away because he remarried a Maggie and they had Arly and Arvy Petty in Oklahoma.. My original searching was to go back farther to James K. and Sarah's parents, etc..and where they came from, but now I'm confused and not sure if this James K. Is the right one.....

Yes, this is what I have also, but I have not done or copied any information on James F. Petty. I show F. as Franklin; and his son as Ross. I havn't found any proof of Cherokee blood in the Petty line. I have mine through the my grandmother side. (Ghormley)If you have some facts on James F. and Ross Petty would love to have it. I would be glad to share my Petty information. James K. is buried in Ward Cemetery, Delaware Co., Ok. I think he was in the Civil War but in looking just now I see I havn't put it on my Family Ancestry facts sheet; so I am going to have to go into my file cabnet. SHERMAN MACE

My great grandfather was James Frederick Petty, wife Mary J. Ross, his father was James K. Petty, wife Sarah Rebecca Longwith from Tennessee??? James F. and Mary Ross Petty had two sons, Clarence and my grandfather, Gerorge Ross Petty....they were in Oklahoma........moved to Washington state in early 1920's.........

I am hoping to find some help. My grandfather Francis Petty, was born in 1919. His parents split up in about 1933 and all the kids went to family members. I know he went to an uncle in virgina and worked a farm until he joined the army. His father was Thomas J Petty and Mother was Mary E ALthoff. From what I know the kids never left maryland and either did mary or thomas. Any help would be appreciated

I have a Great UNCLE named J.D Pettie (know that J.D. stands for something but my mother doesn't remember what it stood for)J.D changed the spelling of his last name from Pettie to Petty. His wife's name was Gerald Dean (not sure on the spelling could be with a J instead of G). We know that he was born in Ark. but not sure when. His mother and father names are Thomas Lee Pettie and Barbara Ann Pettie (Church). Know that they had children but not sure on how many....My grandfather was his brother Odis Henry Pettie any connection????

I've ordered microfilms from familysearch in the past, but I hadn't realized you can order the registrations as well. Thanks, that is a great tip! I also had the chance to visit their library in Utah about a year ago. They are so helpful!
