Dear Barbara,

Thanks for your reply. I'm checking to see if any of those names are familiar. There were at least 10 children in this family, 7 girls/3 boys. One boy was called as an adult, "Uncle R," another "Sonny." Do you know if your Petty family was always based in Brockway?

Will get back to you asap.

Jan

I'm trying to reassemble a Pennsylvania branch of the PETTY family, who lived possibly near Allegheny County. So far, this is all I know: James PETTY was born in the later 1800's. He and his wife Mary RICE had many children. I don't know their birth order, but their names were: Gladys, Peggy, Myrtle, May, Dorothy, Ruth, Sonny, James, Jr., and Sadie, born 1911. There may have been one more boy. If anyone recognizes this family please let me know. Thanks.

According to the notes of Mary Fairchild Hoppe (Matie), Jesse Petty (father of Z.T by our accounts) was "called out for the war of 1812 but saw no service" .Also there is a 1812 star (or was) on his grave in the Chamberlain cemetery outside Belfast when I visited in 1978. I have yet to find really solid backup on this line and am submitting papers for DAR on another. I will keep researching it however. Most of the data is in the hands of descendants of Daisy Fairchild Eagleson. They had old photos, letters etc. Her daughter married Tal" Henson, a prof at Auburn.....

They had 2 sons, Floyd Petty b: 1857 N.Y, and William Samuel Petty, B: 1857 - ? in Brillion, Calumet, Wisconsin.
Search: http://search.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=view&r=an&dbid...

William Samuel B: 1857 in Wisconsin married Nancy J. Collins B: 1860-?. They had 1 child, William S. Petty B: 1882 in Arkansas.
Search: http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/596628/person/-1896214359

William S. Petty B: 1882 married Cora "Nettie" Gibbons B: 1889-?, They had 2 children - Nable B:???, Elda Petty (1913-1992)(she married a Grottie) In 1910 they lived in Montague, texas and 1930 in Hardeman, Texas.

Look at this family tree, it spells out some of hte other names you mentioned:
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/596628/person/-2069998060

I hope this helps !! Now if I could just figure out if I am related to any of these Williams !! I have about a zillion of them in my ancestry. Unfortunately William Samuel from 1857 is from Wisconsin and I can't find a single relative from that state yet. Good Luck,
Calvin Petty Texas

I have tons of data on this family and other lines but no parents for Joseph. Was he a younger son of Capt. JOhn and Margaret? Any leads out there? Marjory PETTY Austen

I have little to go on. My great grand father was James K Petty and he married Sarah Longwith. Just another curious question. Richard Petty the race driver; I sure he belongs to us somewhere. My mother said he came from her neck of the woods. She came from the indian reservation, but ended up in Vinita Ok. to graduate from high school. Any thoughts on this. Sherman

Don't know if there is any connection or not at this time as we don't know Harvey or Lydia's parents either. Only know Harvey was born in KY. in 1825 and Lydia Cook in N.C. in 1828. They were married in Missouri, but have been looking for info on how they got there and who their parents were as well as what happened to them for a long time. Found them on 1860 census, but not on 1870. Where were Gerald and Beulah born and buried? If I find anything in my search that will help you, I will pass it on and appreciate your help as well.
Hope you get this reply as I have just found it in 2009. Ira Lee Petty was my father. My mother was Clovie. They are both buried in Kansas. I am the baby of the family. There were 12 kids and Bertha Naomi was the 4th from the oldest. Bertha was grown and married when Ira Lee died, I was 7. She came back to Kansas for the funeral. Are you a son or daughter of Donald Dale or J.R. Herndon? Contact me for more information. Great Uncle Mickey (Mike) Petty.

William Edward Petty of Kentucky

'm looking for a William Eward Petty possibly from Louisville Kentucky. Also sisters, Lulubelle and Lulumae. Lulumae I think was marrid to a Hall and, Lulubelle was married to a Wieken in the middle 1940's and at that time lived in the Station Valley area of Ky. This I know is a fact because they are listed as sisters to William Edward Petty in his obit in 1945 .William Edward petty left kentucky to live in Northern Indiana in his mid 30's (not real sure of the year) . In his young man years he had his arm amputated in a factory near Louisville Ky, and or Ohio near the Ohio river. His time of death was in 1945. He was married to Laura Mae/Jones/Holmes/Dimickele/Petty after coming to Indiana, possibly Illinois then to Indiana.
If you have any information on this William Edward Petty. Please contact me at sratl1@attbi.com
Sincerely: Sandy Ratlif

William Samuel Petty

I'm looking for the father of William Samuel Petty, who was the half-brother of my husband's mother, Myrtle Weddle Russell.

The only record I have found for William Samuel Petty was with his mother Nancy Jane (Collins), 41 on the 1900 Census in Nocona, Montague, Texas with her new husband W. E. Walls, age 65, her daughter Myrtle Weddle, (born in Montague County) age 3, and son William Samuel Petty, age 18, born in Arkansas (probably in VanBuren County).

Nancy died about 1904 in Texas. Myrtle then lived with her uncle, George Washington Collins and his family until she married my husband's father, Jesse Russell.

I have never found a record of Nancy's marriage to either a Petty or a Weddle.

I would be very grateful to have any information on any of Nancy's husbands.

Frances Russell
farussell@verizon.net
