Are you asking about the family of Ruben E. Peyton, born in Clark County, Indiana in September 1856, died in Jackson County, Oregon Dec. 2, 1947? There is a great deal of information on Ruben in the trees posted at ancestry.com, including his diary, where he identifies his parents and grandparents, and goes through his early life.

Reuben descends as follows (this is the family the Peytons of Virginia II (2004) identifies as the CX line):

4 John Peyton, b c 1750; m Charlotte _____
5 Micajah, b 1775, m Christianna "Teny" Shouse
6 Elijah Peyton, b ca 1799, Kentucky; m Eliza Robertson
7 Charles R. Peyton, b abt 1833; m Nancy Elizabeth Hastings
8 Ruben E. Peyton, b Sept. 1856, IN; m Ora Kerby

We have tested a descentant of Micajah in the Payton/Peyton Surname Y DNA Project, and found his DNA to match that of the family of Philip Payton (the C line in Peytons of Virginia II) who immigrated to Virginia as an indentured servant in 1665. Given that match, the Micajah descent is thought to be:

1 Philip Payton, b Gloucester 1644; m Mary Rush
2 Valentine Payton, b c 1680, Virginia
3 John Payton, b c 1727; m Susan Lunsford
4 John Peyton, b c 1750
5 Micajah Peyton, b 1775, m Christianna "Teny" Shouse

So, what info are you seeking? It would help if you let us know what you already have, so we would know what else to point you towards.

Richard Payton
Volunteer Administrator, Payton/Peyton Surname Y DNA Project

In addition to the marriage of Thomas E. Benson and Mary Elizabeth (Mollie) Peyton, they had 5 children. Three children were living in 1900, Arthur C. 1886, Thomas L. 1898 and Eva Josephine 1900. Arthur C. Benson was living in Houston, Harris, TX in 1930 with one son, Perry M. and his mother Mary E. Benson. Any help on the family of Bensons would be greatly appreciated. I am specifically interested in the middle name of Thomas E. Benson and hope a descendant of this family line might have the answer. I am a descendant of William Ussel Benson, Thomas E. Benson's older brother. The "E" may be a very important clue to the ancestry of this Benson line.

I would like to hear from the Peyton family any comments on the information below as gathered from Hayden's Virginia Genealogies. Mary Peyton m. James Ellis, and her sisters Susan and Ellen m. Abram Dean and Ned Boone, respectively. All three sisters left NC to become Boonesborough pioneers in the early 1780s.

If you have information on these women or any of the other people listed below, i would be grateful to hear from you. Thanks! --Kristin Yates

"Col. Jesse E. Peyton writes me that of his father’s sisters, Mary m. James Ellis of N.C., Susan m. Abram Dean of N.C., and Ellen m. Edward Boone of N.C. These three went to Kentucky before the Revolution. Ellis founded Ellisville, the first county seat of Nicholas Co. Dean operated the Blue Lick Springs and made salt. He was there when Girty came with his Indians, but saved his kettles. Boone was killed while scouting with his brother Daniel at Grassy Lick, Bourbon Co., Oct., 1780. He left a “son-in-law” as appears from Collins’ Ky., Il 50, 563.
Bronaugh-Additional notes for p. 534."

Re: William Peyton, 1718-1792

Rev. Horace Hayden (Virginia Genealogies, Wilkes-Barre, PA, 1891) quoted Colonel Jesse Enlows Peyton as stating that "My grandfather, William Peyton, was the son of Robert Peyton. He was born in Glouc'r Co., Va., and died in Bourbon Co., Ky., in 1792, aged 74." In 1799, Nicholas County, Ky. was formed from part of Bourbon County, and was the residence of Colonel Jesse Enlows Peyton's father, Stephen Peyton; it is presumed that William died in that part of Bourbon County that is now in Nicholas County. Given that, I don't know that anyone has located a will or probate record for William either in Kentucky or back in North Carolina. Hayden states (p. 471) that "There is no will or deed of any William Peyton in Bourbon Co., Ky., prior to Aug. 1, 1795, when John Hunt deeded to Wm. Peyton 200 a. of land in Cambpell Co., Ky., on the waters of Forklick Creek."

Hayden's Virginia Genealogies is available on-line at google books.

Richard Payton

I realize this may also be a late reply but I noticed you had a Samuel Peyton that immigrated to the U.S. and was wondering if you could share your info on him. I have a great grandfather who was Samuel V. Peyton married to a Clara Wheeler and had a son Harry or Marion Harry Peyton. Is there any connection here. Samuel also came to the U.S. but I don't know when. I think it was the mid to later 1800's. I would love to hear from you as I keep striking out on finding info on the Peyton side of my family. You could email me at norton@gci.net. Thanks
Susan (Peyton) Norton

Re: Peyton's in Ohio

Hi. I realize this reply is very late, but I thought I would reply anyway. I hope you get it.

My family immigrated from the County Durham to Perry County, Ohio (Shawnee area)in the late 1880's.

My dad's greatgrandfather, Samuel Peyton (b. 1850), had a brother named Ralph Peyton who was born in 1865. Ralph moved to America with Samuel in 1880's. They were not from Manchester, so I do not know if this is a connection. However, there are so many similarities between our info, that it seems like there surely would be a connection....

Here's some miscellaneous info about my (and possibly your) family: Ralph had a son named Ralph, too....born in America in 1892. Samuel and Ralph Peyton's father was born in 1828 in Ireland. His wife was Mary Howe. Samuel, Ralph, Joseph, Robert and James were all brothers, and they all came and settled in Perry County.

~Rachael (Peyton) Ungericht

This may not be any connection, but I am looking for a Susan Peyton born around 1815 in Fauquier (which borders Prince William). She married Alfred White and they lived in Loudoun. I have seen the name James H. Peyton in connection with her name, so I think that he is her father. Even though the children that you named don't match, there could be some connection.
