Jeanne Maley Pfadt
died Sunday, July 15, 2012
at The Regency at South Shore,
two days before her 92nd birthday.
She was born in Buffalo, N.Y.
on July 17, 1920,
the daughter of the late Francis A. and Loretta Mahan Maley. Mrs. Pfadt was a graduate of Mount Saint Mary's High School, Kenmore, N.Y. and Mercyhurst College. During World War II, she served with the American Red Cross in the African and European Theaters. She was retired from the Erie School District, having taught at Burton and Jefferson Elementary Schools. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Education Association and traveled with them to Russia and Siberia to visit and evaluate schools. She was also a member of the Mercyhurst College Alumni Board, the American Contract Bridge League and Lake Shore Country Club. She enjoyed reading, was an avid bridge player, golfer and world traveler. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Judge William E. Pfadt, who died March 5, 2005; her brother, Captain Richard Maley and her sister, Mary Robb. She is survived by four daughters: Ellen Pfadt and Mary Pfadt of Erie, Pa., Emily Hoopes of Potomac, Md. and Gretchen Beck and her husband, Otto, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two grandchildren, Kevin Beck and Lesley Hoopes; two brothers, James (Joan) Maley and John (Gerry) Maley of Williamsville, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, John Robb of Barker, N.Y. and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at the Regency for the wonderful care they provided for the past three years. Special thanks go to her caregivers: Mary, Chris, Eileen, Laura and Fran, as well as the staff at VNA Hospice. Friends may call on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, Inc. 2502 Sassafras St. Erie, PA 16502 from 3 to 8 p.m. and are invited to the Funeral Mass at St. Andrew Church, 1116 West Seventh Street, Erie, PA 16502 on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at 11 a.m. Private burial will be in Trinity Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrew Church, 1116 W. 7th St. Erie, PA 16502 or the Visiting Nurse Association of Erie County, 2253 West Grandview Blvd, Erie, PA 16506.
