Hi, I'm hoping you have info on my Pharis family. I have a Sarah A. Pharis b. 1824, don't know where, married John Henry Weight [Wait] in 1850, Morrow co. Ohio. Noticed in 1840 census a William Pharis living in Morrow co. but don't know if he's related. Sarah died 1856 in Marion co. Ohio. We have searched for information on Sarah's family without any luck. Thanks, Bonnie

not sure why all of this is under Mary Viola, since her line is: john(1680), william (1700),William (1730, William B. (1754, Thomas Ferman(1802),William Wallace(1825), Mary Viola(1856)

Mary Viola was my great grandmother.

In any case I don't have any info on your line, except where it coincides with mine at the top end. I have your Robert being born in 1702, but found that on an on-line data base, so I wouldn't count on it being correct...but it seems to fit with the other brothers. will be glad to help wherever I can.

Since I responded to your other posting, I have talked with my mother and my Great Aunt, who is the last living daughter of Sadie. She said that her mother's name was Sadie, but that her sister Lena called her Sarah. That was why her name was listed as Sarah on the census. She also said that Lena married a Robertson, but could not remember his first name. The James Travis Lewis, makes sense, but I am not sure about the Ida Lewis Gaddis, only guessing here, but Jim had a daughter born in 1887 and her name was Ida L -- info from 1900 Census - Grayson CO, TX. My Great Aunt told my mother that she has some pictures that she had been saving--Helvey and Lewis. The pictures that I have of Sadie are all later in life. Would gladly share info and pictures that I have.

The only information that I have been able to verify are Sadie's parents names - William J Lewis and Mary Ann Helvey. This info from Sadie's death cert. I did find on the 1900 census/Grayson Co the following: T623_1640, Page 6B: James Lewis, Nov 1863 37, TX/MO/TN head; Mary, mother Dec 1841, 58 wd TN/VA/TN (she states 3 children born/living, but I think that this info is incorrect); Ida L dau Oct 1887, TX/TX/MS; Claude S son TX/TX/MS; Lena sister, April 1881 TX/MO/TN and Sarah, sister March 1885, TX/MO/TN. I did find a Mary Lewis living in Howe in 1910 (which is very close to where they were living in 1900). She states that she has 10 children/9 living. Living with her is a son Daniel 35 and Lena 29. Sadie and her husband are buried at Akers Cemetery in Sherman. This is a fairly large cemetery, but alot of family is buried there, but I didn't find her parents there. If any of this information is helpful or atleast let's me know that I am going in the right direction please let me know. Have lots of information on Sadie's and Marion Phares children -- they were my GGrandparents.

For some reason I have overlooked your message, perhaps because my wife and I share this message board and I don't look at it consistently. If you are stiil looking for information about Robert Phares and his family let me know. My great-grandfather, Martin Van Buren Phares, was Matilda's brother. My grandfather was Leora Phares, and his daughter, Ursie, was my mother. Are you descended from Enoch Rhoads or James Kemper?

Paul R. Meltzer

I would be glad to share any "Phares" information. I have traced Robert to Hamilton County, Crosby Township; however I think his father was William rather John. It does not help that the family used a handful of names over and over each generation! I have my William's father as John P. My Robert had, I think, 10 siblings, but CHARLES R. is new to me. Some of my information comes from other "trees," and I'm never sure how much information is just recirculated. However, a "tree' from Elihu F. Phares does have attached documentation that matches my information. Let's see what we can find out by comparing our findings.

My mother was a Phares from a Robert Phares who settled in Shelby County, Indiana in the 1830s. I remember a family from West Virginia who attended family reunions, and our family visited them when we passed through the state on a trip in the 1950s. I do not recall their name, however. I believe Robert was a son of a William who was born in New Jersey and came to Hamilton County, Ohio around 1800. Is there any connection with our branches of the family, and can you fill in any information if we share common ancestors?
Paul Meltzer
paulmeltzer@sbcglobal.net

I rechecked my info & think I confused the generations. Your Robert is the son of William Phares b.19 Feb 1765 in Burlington NJ, d Dec 1839 sp Naomi. William's father is John born about 1760/70 NJ & moved to Hamilton Co OH abt 1800 with children: Robert, your William, James, Washington [mar Pamela Looker] & Rebecca. His other son John stayed in NJ & is father of my Charles. Have copy of letter to my Charles signed by aunt Pamela talking about the land distribution of John to his children. Also have names of your Robert's siblings. I have charted Phares back to NJ but don't have my Charles birth in NJ. He married a Hutchinson of NJ in Warren Co OH 1819.

His siblings are Robert, Joseph, George &?[total of 10 children] I don't have the next generation your way though. This might give you some uncles to look for too.

Elkins, WV - Myrtle Phares

I'm trying to figure out the parents of my great-grandfather (Bernard Lee Weese b.1878), and one of my few clues is he had a sister with the married name of Myrtle Phares. As of 1949 she was living in Elkins, WV. He was born in Beverly, WV, so I assume she was as well.

Hi,
Mine starts with my G-Grandmother MARGARET Elizabeth Phares b. Dec 1873 West Virginia, and married John Wesley Tharp on 01 Oct 1891 in Webster, West Virginia..
her parents are Andrew Jackson Fares, Phares..b.Abt. 1842 in Braxton Co., WV and married Mary A. "Polly" Smith b. April 1851 in Va..
His parents are John S. Fares, Phares b. 1819 in Pendleton Co., VA and married Cynthia WOODS...Thats about as far as we have gotten..
This has been said,
"As yet, no record of John S. Phares' birth parents has been found; however, the writer feels that in all likelihood, Johnson Phares and Sarah Negley Phares of Pendleton County, Virginia are his grandparents. His parents could be Solomon Phares and Elizabeth Vandevender Phares or one of Solomon's unmarried sisters. Further research must be done to prove this theory, however."
But can find no proof..
And this has been said,
"Christian and Hannah (Spillman) Bickel might have raised him."
But still we have no proof...So, alot of us are in search of his parents..
But I don see you and I connected...All of my Phares and on is from Va. and WV...
Thanks for getting back to me..
Sherry

Thank you for your reply. I found an Edward C. Tenney listed as an adopted son living with Horace and Anna Phares in Valley Bend, WV in 1930. He may have been a foster son. Arl and Sarah's children were Lillian Naricss, b 1910, Violet Louella, b. 1913, Edward Arl, b. 1915, and Patsy Arizona Rebina, b. 1918. Patsy is listed as adopted. Thank you again.

Connie Lambert Crowl

Might be a family connection, however.

Thanks, I will look around that area for others, however.

je

I think that you are going in the right direction.

My paternal grandmother was Cora Lewis. I have a couple of pictures of of her sister Lena Born in 1881. They had a brother named Claude and another sister named Sadie. I think that there was also a brother named Ben. One of the pictues has a brother listed as James Travis Lewis and an Ida Lewis Gaddis, but I don't know who wrote it. It could have been Lena. It also states on another photo of Lena that her parents names were W. J. and Mary Ann Lewis.

It could be that the Sadie Phares you mentioned is the Sadie from my family.

Lena married a man named Otis Robertson. Cora (my Grandmother) married a man named Virgil Niell.
