I am looking for any information regarding the Joseph T. Pharr family. Joseph was born in Gwinnett, Georgia in May 1867 to John D. & Sarah Jane Pharr. Joseph had nine children by three different wives. My great grandmother, Alma Corine Pharr, was from Joseph's first wife. Because there isn't a 1890 census, I don't have any information on her; therefore, I'm seeking the help of distant relatives to figure this out. Joseph's other children were Herbert Lydell, Thomas Ivan, Jewell, Una, Altha Oneda, William Arvel, & Lucille. You can contact me at teresahardee@hotmail.com

I have tried to read and put your puzzle together. The best I can do is your mention of Mecklenburg. Most of the Pharr let there about 200 years ago leaving one family line. That would be Henry 1.1.1 Fair and his son Walter 1.2.1 Phair. Note the family is changing the spelling around 1800 to 1820. I did not find any Plemmons in the index of the book Pharrs and Farrs. That is not unusual as many names are left out of the book. I do my work on the Edward 2.1.1 Phair line. I have offered to help others and don't have the time to do that much. Still buy the CD from Cecil Pharr and see if someone has added your Plemmons to it. There have been many additions to the original book on his CD. At $7. it is as cheap as Genealogy gets. I know I have spent several thousand working one line. I have even did the Farr family DNA.
James E. 2.3.34 Pharr. I believe the E was for Edward. Married Elizabeth Brooks 13 Dec. 1849 in Jackson C. Ga. He was the son of Edward T. 2.2.7 Pharr and his second wife Margaret McMillion. Some refer to him as Reverend Edward Pharr II. Edward Pharr II was the son of Edward Neddy 2.1.1 Phair and his first wife Rachel Beard. James died of his wounds and is believed buried in Tennessee. Elizabeth was born 29 Oct. 1829 in South Carolina and died in Georgia 22 Aug. 1872. Some of James children moved to Texas and some stayed in the Jackson C. Ga area. James also had a brother Samuel McMillion Pharr who died in the war. I have found no children or marriage for Samuel. If this is what you want please reply and I can give much more on this family.

Re: Indian-Pharr

I just read this post and find it a bit confusing. there are two Pharr family's in Cherokee County on the 1850 census. This deal with Edward Pharr II so I will try to get it strait. Edward 2.3.30 Pharr is enumerated twice on the 1850 Cherokee census. His wife is Margaret McEver. Her family had moved to Georgia from Pennsylvania. Her parents were John A. McEver and Mary McDowell. There is nothing mentioned about them being native Americans. They being from Pennsylvania would prove them to not be Cherokee. Edward was born in Abbeville, SC. His parents were Rev. Edward T. Pharr. Both Edward's are shown on the 1830 and 1840 census for Jackson C. the father is shown on the 1820 Jackson C. as Edward Phair. His wife is Mary Orr and she died about 1816. Mary is a big question but Edward says his mother was born in Ireland on the 1880 Gwinnett C. census. Think this proves Mary to not be Cherokee. Edward II father was Edward Neddy Phair III. He is said to be born in Ireland. His first wife was Rachel Beard born in Maryland. Her father was John Beard of Maryland and wife Elizabeth. No mention in the Beard family of Native Americans and the Cherokee were not in Maryland. I have worked on the sons of Edward III. Two lived to adults. Bouth served in the Confederate Army. John became a POW and lived his life after the war in Maryland. William lived in Gwinnett C. on the 1870& 1880 census and in Atlanta Fulton C. census on the 1900& 1910 census. Williams wife was Nancy Catherine Coggin. Note no letter S at the end. The Coggin family landed near Cape Cod about 1630 amd later moved to Virginia. Her parent were Joshua Coggin and Permilia Kemp. Permila is said to have been born in South Carolina. I can't find any mention of her parents. If there is any thing to the Native American blood it may be here. William and Nancy had 5 children. 1. John b. 1868 mar. Mary Ann Drake. 2. William Franklin b. 1871 mar. Jessie H. last name unknown. 3. Ida Mae b. 1873 mar. Kenneth Gaddis, he died young and she remarried but I can find no children but the 3 with Kenneth. 4. James Newton b. 1875 mar. Willie Lenda Johnson. 5. Virgil Allen b. 1879 mar. Cora Brown. With no real info on Cora. All 5 were born in Gwinnett. If you have any questions are any answers please write or email me at Redroad9@aol.com. If you would like I can do the other Pharr family. They were cousins to Edward and the seperation was with the sons of Edward Neddy Phair III.

She was married to a George Wells before the Collins, but George died very shortly after the wedding and then she married Obediah. So I am looking for Catherine's husband who died
between 1820 to 1830, he was the Pharr, and Mary Ann. Would appreciate any and all help. Thank you so much.
Carol

Our line splits at Edward Neddy's Phair's sons. I'm in the son Edward's line and you are in son Samuel's line. Would like to get a copy of you new list so it can be in a new CD we hope to have out by Christmas. Every thing I find I give to Cecil. I try to double check it for him. Sometimes I even find some to add to it. If you can email me at Redroad9@aol.com. Thanks David

Kathy,

Which branch of the William Pekindrick Pharr line are you descended from?

The book by Stanley Milton Pharr was just a family tree. Other than the foreword, there wasn't anything else. He just updated the lineage from William Pekindrik Pharr down to 1969. (You said you had part of the book, so I thought you might think there was more to it like Henry Pharr's book.)

Uncle Milton is still living, but sadly, has Alzheimer's. I have kept the lineage up from my grandfather to the present in his honor. My grandfather was George Thomas Pharr (Branch 9 of the William Pekindrick Pharr lineage).

I have the family tree booklet he did in 1969 and the George Thomas Pharr branch on computer. I scanned the booklet, so it's a .pdf document. The Tom Pharr is a small Word document.

I'll be happy to email either or both.

Amy

Does Mr. Pharr mention someone named Mary For who married George Bowin in Charleston, S.C. These are the way their names were spelled on the record of their marriage. George's son and other family members spell their name Bowen and I have been unable to find parents of either Capt. George or his wife Mary. Some say Mary Margaret Farr/Pharr.
Many thanks!
Lib in SC

Pharr family in NC in 1800

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can help me. I am looking for the parents of Mary/Matilda Farr/Pharr and husband of Catherine Farr/Pharr in NC in early 1800's and on.Here is what I have on my Farr/Pharr/Fair line.

It starts with Catherine.

Catherine Pharr/Farr -1 male 5 and under 10- 1 female 5 and under 10 (Mary Ann ? my ancestor)
1 female 50 & under 60 (Catherine)

Then we have a marrige record in Surry County, NC of Matthew Whitlock to
Catherine Fair 8 15 1845
No doubt the Catherine listed in 1840.
And also amarriage record in Surry County, NC of a George Wells to Matilda
Fair 8 14 1846
Could Matilda Fair/and Mary Ann be the same? (I think so)

Then we look at the 1850 Surry County Census and see the following.
552/555
Matthew Whitlock 64 m Slive Maker? New Jersey
Catherine 61 NC
Mary A. Wills 19 NC
Samuel M. Wills 2 NC

Is the Mary A. Wills age 19 the same Matilda Pharr/Fair that married George Wells?
(I think so)

Mary Ann then marries Obediah Collins, I know this because of the following Census.

The above is what I have on my Farr/Pharrs.
As you can see I've been looking for the Farr/Pharr/Fair family. I have Catherine Farr and her daughter Mary/Matilda Ann Farr. Catherine marries Matthew Whitlock and Mary/Matilda marries George Well. Then George dies and Mary Ann marries Obediah Collins. I have been trying to figure out who was Mary Ann's father, which Farr. Anyway if anyone has an idea please let me know. Thank you so much for your time and trouble.

Thank you,
Carol

His wife Meekness Amanda DAY was the sister of Sarah Medissa DAY wife of Captain James Hughes CALLAHAN, a noted Texas Ranger who was killed in a shootout in the part of Comal County that became Blanco County, TX. Augustus figured in some of the aftermath of that event. Hoping you might know a little more of it as well...

Hi Nancy, I think we came from that branch too, but I can't prove it. I have the Pharr and Farr CD. On page 508 of the book (p 522 of the pdf) is a letter written by our uncle Milton Farr of Edwards MS and a note by Cecil Pharr. I'm stuck on our gr-grandfather James Wilson Farr. He isn't the JWF who was the son of Samuel Farr Jr. The rest of the facts don't fit. I think he may be the son of James Bradley Farr, Samuel Farr Jr's brother. There is good circumstantial evidence to suggest that. Do you have any evidence other than the CD that suggested that our James Wilson Farr is descended from this branch? I'd love to exchange information with you. Thanks, Lynne Farr

Amy,
I accidently came across the reply you sent to me. I would love a copy of the information you said you to e-mail me. Did you get a copy of the CD? I have some other stuff that I am trying to retype from a very old history book that someone had at the Pharr reunion in Marietta. I will be glad to share that with you as well.
Kathy Pharr
