Hi Jane,
My name is William Pharris. I am descendant of Pharris's from Helen, Georgia. I have recently created a family tree that you are more than welcome to look at, and correct, if you would like here on the Ancestry.com site. The tree should be correct as best I can tell, but I sure could use some help weeding through the hundreds of William Pharris's from Tennessee and Kentucky. Recently I had a DNA test ran and feel confident that, in time, I may be able to create a pretty accurate tree to share with relatives. My wife and I just returned from Scotland and have plans to go to Ireland this Spring. There is a Pharris out west, who I may be related to, who has dirrected me to a town in Ireland
named "Pharis". Although I studied American History in college, researching my ancestors has proven much more informative. I am having a ball.

I know that you must know much more about the Pharris family's past than I do, but it is my hope that I can at least provide some small amount of information which may be of intrest to you. Soon I hope to begin scanning all of my Grandmothers photographs so that I can post as many Pharris men pictures as possible.

Hope all is well where you are,
William A. Pharris
Stockbridge, Georgia
Son of Billy Pharris, GSon of Clyde, ...Jordan, Bailey Peyton and so on

Dear Leah: I have heard that name many times. When I first started working on the Pharris line, I was told that there were three young men that came from Ireland. Two were twins; Tavender & Cavender or (Lavender).
They were about 16 years of age and came over as "stowaways" on a cargo ship. They came here with an older brother by the name of Reuben. I believe they all belong to a line that was in Kentucky. I was told of them by a Real Estate man in Louisville, KY. I am not sure who they married but you can find them on line.
Sorry I cannot be of more help.
Jane
I have been working on the Pharris line for over 20 years. But most of ours are from the TN, Ark, Missouri area

Unfortunately, I don't have anymore info other than he married Tennessee Elizabeth Crittendon who was born in Graves Co, Ky. He lived in Graves Co, Ky from at least 1870, and after that the rest of his life. He served in Co F 8th (also known as the 13th Tennessee) Calvary CSA. His name was spelled Pharies on Confederate pension application which gave the info he was born in Jackson Co, TN death obit (1917) which didn't name any other relatives except his wife. They had no children. Thanks for the reply.

I have not checked out the Phariss/Pharriss sites for a long time. Could I have more info on the Phariss book and if there are some books for sale at this date? What family line is the book about? Years ago I worked with Lon and Joyce Pharris, they were the researchers at that time, that so nicely gave and gave to me their Phariss/Pharris info. In turn, many of us who work on the line, our records are the backbone of their early research and records.

My Phariss line goes back to Old Samuel....skip to the Phariss in Dallas Co, MO....and the three or four brothers who went by wagon train to Sonoma Co, CA...early 1850's.

pat-igree-kenn@charter.net

Urgent-Found Pharris Family Photos
I was in a antique store in Oklahoma today and found a box full of photos of the Pharris family from Licking, Texas Co. Missouri. I found a high school diploma and several documents for a Beulah Pharris that graduated in 1914. I would say that there were probably 75 to 100 photos in the box. I offered 20 dollars for them but the owner would not go below 60 dollars. I couldn't afford that. I looked up Beulah on the internet found that her parents were probably Emen Pharris and Lula C. Drown. Lula C. Drown's parents were Luke Erastus Drown and Lucretia Adaline Plymale. I hate to see these photos be distributed singly so I am hoping someone might want them. If you are interested in buying the photos, send me an e-mail and I will give you the name and number of the antique store so you can call them and make arrangements to buy them. I would be glad to pick them up and mail them to you. Please, someone save these photos.
Desiree Hurst
My ancestor is Mahala Pharris who married Samuel Evans. Their daughter, Levanie Jane married a George Washington Daugherty. They were my gg-grandparents on the Daugherty side. Do you have any documentation to prove who Mahala Pharris' father was? I had originally had Reuben as her father, but have seen several files and postings listing a Tavender Andrew Pharris as the father.

Re: Pharris of Granville area

hey Helen: did you happen to get a copy of the Jackson County Cemetery book? I have it and have found a lot of the people you mentioned. Charles Jackson was born 15 Sept 1925 & died 14 Oct 1927. Son of Hugh and Coma (Loftis) Pharris. There is a Minnie Bell Pharris (b) 18 Sep 1903 and (d) 21 Sep 1904, dau of Andrew Jackson & JaNie (Grisham) Pharris. (I think you had JaMie but meant N instead of M.)
Sorry, it does make a difference. haha Andrew Jackson Pharris was (b) 22 Nov 1857 and (d) 21 Dec 1939. Does not say whom his parents were. Janie Grisham Pharris was (b) 24 Sep 1865 & (d) 06 Aug 1932. Andrew Jackson's obituary says his name was Johnson, but we know that was wrong. The Jackson County Sentinel lists the date of death for Janie as being, 05 Aug instead of 06. There is a tiny Andrew Jackson Pharris cemetery listed on Hwy. 53. there are Pharrises, Bockman, Harris, Burton's and Huffs buried there. I do have a photo of Janie and A.J's marker, somewhere. I can not place them in my line but know of people they are related to. This Cemetery Book also has an extensive listing on the Granville Cemetery, so if you are in the Jackson Co area, you can check it out at the Library...... Larry Mabry and Reda Bilbrey did a superb job ! ! Lots of people missed out on the books. Janie Grisham was the dau of Pryor and Martha J. (Thorneberry) Grisham.
Guess thats all for now. If I can confuse you more. let me know.

Jane

Born, Dec. 25th, 1783.
My line is his brother, Nathan.
Absolum, Died in 1856 in Ky. His first marriage was to Cally Johnson, on Oct. 20, 1805. They had 2 children, Sally, 12-12-1806. Samual, 1808. He had 7 children of his 2nd marriage, 10-27-1814.
Not sure if this is the same Pharris as yours. William also had a son named William. Born, 10-26-1772.
Hello Helen: I am just going over the PHARRIS board again and noticed that your names include some of Pharris gender but not in our direct line. The Sandra Jane Pharris that you mentioned passed away back in January of this year. She lived in Brentwood and was a noted RealEstate person. She did name that her mother was Marie Carter Pharris BUT her dad's name was not mentioned, either dead or alive. For some reason, I was thinking Marie has passed away too. I do recall the name Ellen too but not too sure whom she was, other than a sister to Sandra. I think she was about 60+ yrs old. I knew she wasn't a family (close) member so I read the death notice and discarded the paper. I can try to check on her and see if I can get you the obituary.

Jane

I would love to have the photos IF they are of the Deason line.
I can go back as far as 1841, to John D. Pharris, that was born 10/8/1841 in Texas Co., MO. He died in 1917 in Licking, MO. John's wife was Amanda Carolyn Deason. If this is the same one, please advise.
