My name is Kathy Philippi from Illinois. I am looking for information regarding William Philippi of Chicago, Illinois (my great-grandfather) but was born in Wisconsin according to the 1920 Chicago Census. He married (? that) a Bertha Slaler, Slaphl or Slapke (? on the spelling as we had hard time reading it on the census) and had 1 child (a son) with her. Their son's name was Edward William Philippi born in 1911 in Chicago, IL (my grandfather). William left Bertha and Edward when he was a baby. Bertha married John Bachli near between 1911 and 1920. In the 1920's Census, I found John and Bertha with Ed (8) and a mother-in-law Antonia F. Slaphl or Slapkl. If anyone has any information to share, please let me know. I am hitting a brick wall with finding out if Bertha was married to a William Philippi and where to go from there as it now seems that my grandfather had parents but nothing else. He is dead and never talked of his parents.
