Hello! My name Luke Wayne Phillippe, descendant of Mark Wayne Phillippe. I was just doing a little checking up on my families well being! I've heard that my fathers side was enormous. But I have no clue as to the extent! Our particular branch hails from Indianapolis and Michigan. I will did deeper and recover more useful and older names for a more accurate representation of myself and family. Thanks for any help on the matter! Luke Phillippe

Hi Erin,

I am glad you responded. I have attached a run-down of what I have so far ...

Hannsen Benckhardt was born in 1532 somewhere in Germany. I don't have a wife's name, but he had a son, Johan Benckhardt, born 21 September 1583 in Bayern Germany. Johan married Anna Werner, born 1590. They had a son named Hans Joerg Benckhardt, born 16 June 1614 in Neustadt, Coburg, Bayern, Germany. Hans married Ursula Schneider, born 18 November 1609 in Bayern, Germany. She died in 1645 in Bayern. Her father was names Jacob Schneider and her mother was Anna Von Lahr.

Hans and Ursula had a son named Johann Nicolai Benckhardt born 7 July 1645 in Bayern, Germany. He died 30 March 1717. Johann married Anna Maria Kissman September 23, 1669. She was born 16 February 1651 and died 5 September 1710. They had two sons: Johann Benckhardt, born 28 November 1677 in Neustadt, Coburg, Germany. Johan died 20 May 1721. The other son was named George Adam Benckert (note the change of spelling). George was born in February of 1675. He died in 1702. I don't know who George Adam Benckert married, but he had a son, Peter Benckert.

Peter Benckert married Maria M. Scheuring, born 1687. They had a son, George Benckert, born 1727 in Lehrensteinsfeld, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. He died in 1777.

I don't know who George Benckert married but he had a son named George Frederick Benckert, born 1764 in Bayern, Germany. George Frederick died in 1840 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

George Federick Benckert married Jane Childs, 18 January 1784 in Bermondsey, London, England. Jane's father was Samuel Childs. Her mother's name was Mary, but I don't have a maiden name for her. Jane was born 3 March 1764 in Dorking, Surrey, England. She died 17 January 1842 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. George and Jane had a son named James Matthais Benckert, born 5 July 1798, Swans Mead St, Bermondsey, England. He died 12 April 1859, Marshall, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

James Matthais Benckert married Hannah McDonald in 1822 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Hanna was born in 1804 in New Jersey. She died 26 September 1886, perhaps in Philadelphia, I am not sure yet. James and Hanna had 9 children, all born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Three girls - Catherine Benckert, born in 1826; Amanda Benckert, born in 1830; and Frances Benckert, born in 1845. Their sons were named: John David Benckert, born in 1822 - died 7 August 1876 in Philadelphia; James Mathais Benckert, born 1824; William McDonald Benckert, born 17 November 1827, died 15 May 1900 in Philadelphia; George F. Benckert, born in 1832, died 1 October 1865 in Philadelphia; Jacob Benckert, born in 1838, died 19 April 1883 in Philadelphia; and Thomas H. Benckert, born in 1841.

My part of the Benckert line follows Jacob who married Rebecca Jane Jones, born 1841 in Philadelphia. I don't have a date of death for her. Jacob and Rebecca had a son, Samuel J. Benckert, born 22 November 1862 in Philadelphia. He died in 1905 in Philadelphia.

Samuel J. Benckert married Charlotta B. Shoemaker, who was born in 1861 in Philadelphia. Her father was John Shoemaker, born in 1812. Her mother was named Elizabeth, born in 1822, but I don't have a maiden name. Charlotta had a brother John F. Shoemaker, born in 1860.

Samuel J. and Charlotta had a daughter, Irene Helen Benckert, born 29 June 1888, I think in Philadelphia. She died 17 August 1964 in Philadelphia.

Irene Helen Benckert married Francis Wainwright Phillippe 17 August 1906 at a Methodist Episcopal Church located at Fifth Street and Snyder Avenue, Philadelphia. Francis was born 4 February 1884 in Philadelphia. He died 13 October 1967 in Philadelphia. They had three children, all born in Philadelphia: Samuel Daniel Phillippe, born 11 October 1908; Francis, born 28 April 1910; and Irene Helen, born 17 August 1912.

My father was Samuel Daniel Philllippe. That brings you up to date on what I know so far. I am still looking and double checking information.

Hopefully, you will be able to fill in some blanks for me. If not, maybe I was able to give you some information. In either case, I look forward to hearing from you.

Would love to correspond. I have information dating back to Germany as well, but not much in the way of documentation. I have had to let my Ancestry account lapse and have been in the hospital a few times this fall so I am a little behind in my correspondence. I can be reached at clubpeck@sprintmail.com.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Erin

Hi Beth,
I am also descended from John Montgomery Phillippe, through his son Jasper Phillippe who is my great-grandfather. My grandfather was Bura Francis Phillippe and my dad was George Eldon Phillippe. I went to High School in Columbia, and am very interested in Phillippe genealogy. Maybe we could get together when you get back to Columbia. I now live about 50 miles from Columbia. Would love to have copies of any photos that you may have. I have a few photos also. Would also love to know where the original house was. You can contact me direct through my e-mail at: prudygreen@hotmail.com

LAWSON - PHILLIPPE marriage 1895 IA

Florence G. LAWSON (b. 14 Nov 1872 Steady Run, Keokuk Co., IA d. 21 Jan 1952) married Elmer Webb PHILLIPPE 1 May 1895. Note: this information is taken from family notes and it isn't clear to me if the marriage took place in Keokuk (likely) and/or Florence LAWSON PHILLIPPE died in Keokuk. In the 1930 IA, Wapello, Ottumwa census Webb was 59, Florence 56 and their son Harold W. was 22. The 1910 Wapello Co., IA census lists two sons, Henry 10 and Harold 2. This would put Henry PHILLIPPE as b. abt 1900 and Harold abt. 1908. There is an SSDI listing for Harold L. PHILLIPPE b. 9 Mar 1909, d. 24 Oct 2002 in Temple City, Los Angeles, CA; the SS card was issued IA.

My interest is in the LAWSON line. Florence LAWSON PHILLIPPE was a daughter of Sarah CRAFT LAWSON and Joseph LAWSON of Keokuk, Iowa. Joseph LAWSON was my great great grandfather. I am hoping to locate PHILLIPPE descendants or historians who might have information to share.

My great, great, great grandfather, Peter Phillippe moved from Wythe County Virginia to Knox County Indiana in 1832. My father, John Gaylord Phillippe grew up in Knox County until he moved to Anderson, Indiana after he graduated from high school. Unfortunately, I do not have any record of Orville Phillippe in my lineage. However, if you can trace your roots back to Peter I would like to compare information.

Mrs. R.D. Phillippe of Lubbock, Texas - J.B. Patterson Obit

...I recently found my grandfather's (Jesse Patterson) wallet which had the following obit in it. If anyone recogtnizes any of these people, please contact me as I have run into a brickwall and had never heard of any of these folks except for Alfred A. Patterson, mentioned in the obit. Note also, that there is no year date on this obit, which makes it difficult to track. Here is the obit verbatim:

J.B. Patterson Dies Suddenly

J.B. Patterson, age 76, a pioneer of this section, died Saturday afternoon at 3:30 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C.O. Woodley, in Devol. Death was unexpected and sudden, and was contributed to a blood clot near his heart.

Mr. Patterson had been a resident of the Big Pasture since 1914, and had resided on a farm near Devol up until ten years ago, when his wife died. Since then, he has been making his home with his children. He was well known and respected in both Grandfield and Devol communities.

He is survived by these children: Mrs. C.O. Woodley and A.S. Patterson of Devol, Mrs. R.D. Phillippe of Lubbock, Texas, Mrs. Myrtle Day of Grandfield, Henry Patterson of Arboles, Colorado, and one brother, A.A. Patterson of Frederick, Oklahoma, as well as a host of friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 4:00 at the Baptist Church in Devol, conducted by Choice L. Bryant, Grandfield Church of Christ minister. Burieal was made in the Grandfield Cemetery.

...again, look forward to hearing from anyone who might be able to give me some dates to put with these people for better tracking... thank you...

Karen Green-Warren
She is buried at Dripping Springs Cemetary. I have several old pics from John and Elizabeths family as well as the farm house in Woodlandville, MO. Next time in Columbia plan to go to the actual house. Please feel free to contact me. Thanks. Beth

The two Andrew jackson Phillippe men
To all Phillippi researchers - you need to update your records pertaining to
Andrew Jackson Phillippi, of Wythe County, VA. THERE WERE TWO - at
least.

Andrew Jackson Phillippi, the father of Charles Louis (Deacon) Phillippi,
was the son of John & Magdalene (Wisely) Phillippi, and this Andrew
married Margaret Hackler, daughter of Peter. This family moved to Carroll
County, VA, then to OK, and later some or all of the family moved to SD.

THE OTHER Andrew Jackson Phillippi, was a son of Joseph & Sarah (King)
Phillippi. This Andrew married D.A. Hall, and this family lived and died in
Wythe County, VA. This Andrew was dead by July 2, 1902, because this is
the date his estate was appraised. In December, 1903, a Commissioner, at
the request of Andrew's wife, D. A., settled the lands of Andrew, assigning
plots to each child.

The estate is recorded in Will Book # 18, page 101. The Commissioner's
report is in Deed Book 50, page 69. It would appear to me that this
information, taken from official court records should be enough to settle the
confussion about the Andrew Jackson Phillippi men in Wythe County, VA.
