born abt 1853 in Ohio; Family bible showed his parents were Hannah McPheters 1830-1910 all we have is father Jediah d. 1866. But cannot find anything on him living or dying in Ohio. 1870 Census shows George a Phillips age 17, living with widowed mother, and four sibblings in Marshall, Saline County MO. George married Mary Catherine Grove, on 06 Feb 1879 in Marshall, Saline County MO. anybody know anything on Georges, Father and grand fathers?

When in Beggs, OK last month I took photos of family grave sites. Next to my grandmother Minnie Lee Phillips(Blackburn, married William Emmitt Blackburn) I found the grave marker for Elizabeth K. Phillips b.22 Jan 1887 and d.31 Mar 1913. again she is in the Beggs Cemetary, in Beggs Oklahoma. Courious if she is related to my grandmother in some way.

I was excited to here from you.

I am guessing you read the thread the only new information I have is on the Devonald's. I ordered the wills of Joseph, John, and 2 for William but I do not believe either were the son of Joseph.

To make a long story short I found that Joseph had 3 daughters and two sons John and William. He died in 1817 the will mentioned his daughter Mary Phillip married to a Josiah Phillip (so I am not sure if Josiah should be Joshua it is right but I know that Mary's father was a Joseph Devonald.)

John died unmarried. The last census record I have for William shows that he never married either.

I am looking forward to hearing from you with any additional information you may have.

Greetings Dona...I ran into your query looking for linkages myself...I am of Wampanoag descent....and my ancestors were John Douglass who married 'Princess Rattleaf' Eunice Rattliffe, or Ratcliffe on Pratt Farm in MA. John was an 'indentured servant' who was captured by pirates in England and brought to Middleboro/Lakeville (considered to be a Spiritual place) to be sold for his fare. He was Scottish from the 'Black Douglass' (aka Duglass lineage-a Knight - probably from the West Indes area - real name: Sholto Duglass....he met and married Rattleleaf at Captain Pratt's Farm....they had sons...John....George...others...John stayed and opened a school in Plymouth in Half-way Pond, Plymouth (where I am from) ....the others went to Maine to settle....could tell you more - but HOW did you find out about the Princess? I live here in Mashpee, MA and work with the local Wampanoags - I am also of Herring Pond & Manomet lineage....I recognize the Cook/Freeman names from my ancestorial tree too (probably Captain Cook)....Deb'orah Battles aka 'Rattleaf'....

I think my Phillips tie into this family, too, but I can't prove it. The earliest that I have my family is John Phillips married Mary Witsman on 6-JUN-1819 in Orange County, NC. My grandmother said her family name was Kingfisher and they were native americans.

I am a descendant of 'King Philip' Metacomet (Pometacom), and am searching for all family descendants and lineage information.

We are descendants through Jonathan Mingo Narragansett tribe and some of Pometacom's descendants from Novia Scotia, etc. My ancestor Charles Mingo was with the Montaukette Nation on Long Island, NY.

Since reading your messages I realize that the surname Philips is also tied into our lineage. I also do have some marriages into the Freeman and Waterman lines.

Through oral family history I have traced my grandmother"(Anna Belle Cook, who married my grandfather Rossnagle, of Mass./ME.)back to the Phillips. There is a daughter of Metacomet aka King Phillips of 1600's. A daughter of his was an Indian Princess...I am looking for her name. The tribe was Wampanoag of the Algonquian-Ritwan language family. My great grandmother married a Cook, and after his death a Freeman. She had two brothers named Phillips, they are the link. As I said this is all oral history, I am looking for any documentation and names.

My husband is a descendant of John Lee Phillips b. 1 Nov 1891 and Mattie Graham b. 2 Feb 1892. John Lee Phillips was son of James Bauswell Phillips b. 25 Oct 1854 in Alabama and Louisa Manika Watkins b. 12 Jan 1860 in Alabama.

I have a copy of their marriage certificate. They were married in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama 20 Jan 1878. Her name on the certificate is Eliza. The certificate is also signed by a John N. Phillips.

Louisa's death certificate shows that her mother's name was Martha Watkins born in Alabama but lists her father as unknown.

I haven't done a lot of research on this family. I didn't know that James B.'s father was James Calvin Phillips. What information can you share with me on him? Do you know his mother's name?

I am still around and I am thrilled to find a descendent of Enoch Park Philips! This is a great day! If you have looked at much of the information I have online, then you will know that I am a grandson of Enoch's half-sister, Margaret Maude Philips and Claude Board.

I am very interested to learn from you about other descendents of Enoch Park - since he had several children by two wives. Please let me know what information I can provide about Enoch's ancestry. Phillips that Tested yDNA with Ancestry

I know many of you are already active members of the Phillips DNA Project and have been tested by FTDNA, Ancestry, Sorenson, etc.

We have started a satellite Group in for the Phillips DNA Project in the Ancestry.com DNA Groups section called "The Phillips DNA Group." We hope this will attract the attention of some of the already DNA tested Ancestry members and those who test with Ancestry in the future.

I would like to address this post to those who yDNA tested with Ancestry, or had a male relative yDNA tested with Ancestry. Currently, we already have 21 Ancestry members in our project who we are thrilled to be with us and the project is just as happy to have them. Of these 21, 19 have the Phillips surname and the majority have a genetic cousin in the project that tested somewhere else.

There are an additional 44 Ancestry yDNA tested that have had no contact with the Phillips DNA Project, of them, 24 have matches with other members in the Phillips DNA Project. The majority of these 24 match existing Family Groups and the others matched Singletons (non-grouped) yDNA tested members. The Singletons and these Ancestry matches could establish new Family Groups if the Ancestry yDNA tested non-members will contact the Phillips DNA Project. So far, there has not been much success in making the connection to the unaware Ancestry tested. Out of all the Ancestry connect messages I have sent so far, only one has replied and he was thrilled we found him. He now has a genetic cousin and is emailing with him, sharing genealogies and looking at all the possibilities of his connection.

I just want to point out to those Phillips researchers who have an Ancestry yDNA test to check their email, spam folder, messaging service inbox at Ancestry, etc. Those Ancestry yDNA tested who are not members of the Phillips DNA Project, you can be proactive and contact us at www.phillipsdnaproject.com. Membership is free and there are many benefits using yDNA to help trace your Phillips family.

I really hope the project hears from some of the Ancestry.com DNA tested, even those that might not have a match. I would just would like for these wayward DNA testers to know, you are not alone. There is help available on how to use your yDNA results, find matches and connect with your genetic cousins.

MUSCATINE, Iowa — James Kelly Phillips, 51, Muscatine, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2009, at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. The Rev. Mike Bales will officiate. Honorary bearers will be Steven Dusenberry, Glen Dusenberry Jr., Mike Job, Tim Schroeder, Mike Onken, Dan Schroeder, Ralph Joseph and Jim Ludman. Following the services a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Community Room.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2009, at the funeral home.

James was born on January 2, 1958, in Muscatine, the son of Ronald and Sara Marshall Phillips. He married Ann Klann on March 19, 1994, in Muscatine.

He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and the men's prayer group at the Jesus Mission. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, painting and studying the Bible. He had managed Sizzlin' Sam's, Taco John's, Fazoli's and owned and operated Hungry Hobo for six years.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Ann Phillips, of Muscatine; a son, Joshua Phillips and his fiancé, Paula Hart, of Lincoln, Nebraska, two daughters, Sara Phillips and her fiancé, Brett Booth, of Muscatine, and Katie Phillips of Muscatine; three grandchildren, Bryce, Drake and Collin Phillips; a grandchild on the way; his mother, Sara Phillips of Muscatine; two sisters, Vicki Dusenberry and husband, Glen, of Moscow, and Lisa Job and husband, Cloyce, of Muscatine; and mother-in-law, Joyce Klann of Springfield, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

FAIRPORT, Iowa - Ida J. Phillips, 63, of Fairport, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at her home in Fairport.

Rev. Ted Landers will officiate. Burial will be in Fairport Cemetery.

Ida J. Carter was born on Feb. 1, 1943, in Fairport, the daughter of Lloyd W. and Florence E. Snider Carter. On Aug. 20, 1960, she was united in marriage to Wayne Phillips at the New Era Church.

Phillips worked for many years at the Muscatine Community Schools. She was a devote Christian and loved God. She loved working with flowers, collecting hummingbird statues and anything with a hummingbird on it, bird watching, but most of all she dearly loved being with her family.
Phillips is survived by her husband, Wayne Phillips of Fairport; one son, David W. Phillips and wife Debbie of Muscatine; daughter, Carla S. Mrs. Phillips was born Aug. 5, 1934, in Muscatine, the daughter of William Wallace and Mary Dusenberry Estabrook. She married Robert Phillips on Oct. 22, 1954, in Muscatine.

She was a homemaker all her life, spending her time taking care of her family.

She enjoyed collecting ladybugs and stuffed animals, especially bears.

Survivors include three sons, Robert Phillips and wife Barb of Muscatine, Tim Phillips of Anamosa and Mark Phillips of Muscatine; three daughters, Sandra Hutt and husband Brian of Moscow, Barb Phillips of Muscatine and Angie Phillips of Eldridge; nine grandchildren, Joy, Maddi, Tyler, Nathan, Michael, Landon, Trevin, Josh, Damien and Gabriel; eight great-grandchildren, Ashley, Zoie, Logan, Zachary, Tiffany, Brittney, Kayla and Destiny; three sisters, Pearl Phillips, Evelyn Axtell and Mary Reed; and a brother, Louie Estabrook.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Edith Smalley and Helen Herlein; and three brothers, William Estabrook, Edward Estabrook and Albert Estabrook.

MUSCATINE, Iowa - Bernice L. Phillips, 86, of Mansfield, Ohio, formerly of Muscatine, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, at MedCentral Hospital in Mansfield, Ohio.

Burial will be in the Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Ben Phillips, Travis Cooper, and Robert Luetkemeyer.

Following the committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Community Room of the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services.

Mrs. Hansen was born on April 27, 1920 in Wilton the daughter of Hans O. and Amelia (Ovesen) Hansen. She married Stuart Phillips June 1, 1946, in Muscatine.

She was a payroll supervisor for the United States government working for G.S.A. in Kansas City, Mo. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, sending and receiving e-mails, and loved animals, especially her dog, Bailey.

Survivors include her husband, Stuart Phillips of Mansfield, Ohio; a son, Robert and his wife, Jo, Mansfield, Ohio; a granddaughter, Amelia (Amy) Cooper and husband, Travis, Toledo, Ohio and a grandson, Ben Phillips of Mansfield; a sister, Odetta Carter of Silvis, Ill.; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Hansen and Evelyn Ford both of Muscatine, Gwen Robertson of Clermont, Fla., Mary Phillips of Davenport, and Erma Phillips of Buffalo, Mo; several nieces and nephews; and a family friend, Bob Luetkemeyer of Rushville, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Hank Hansen and Wallace Hansen and wife, Dorothy; sisters, June Garvin and husband Glenn, and Anna Cawiezell and husband, George, and a brother-in-law, Paul Carter.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2007, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Pastor Bill Beattie of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate the service. Robert was born on September 22, 1924, in Mason City, the son of Dr. Clarence and Anna Fern Shinabarger Phillips. The family moved to Muscatine in 1927. Robert was a graduate of Muscatine High School, Class of 1942.
Bob entered the Army in late August of 1943, and took his basic training at Camp Barkeley, Texas. He also took additional Army training at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, for roentgenlogy
(x-ray). While on leave, he married Joan McKee on April 4, 1944, in Muscatine. He was then transferred to Camp Reynolds in Pennsylvania prior to his 17 month European Tour, were he was with the combat engineers. He received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
After returning from World War II, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1947, and his Master of Science degree in 1950, both at the University of Iowa.
Bob worked at the University of Iowa Hospital from 1947 - 1950. In 1950, he started with Grain Processing Corporation in research and then moved to sales. He retired in 1987, after 37 years.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Elks Lodge No. 304, Iowa Lodge #2 AF & AM, Davenport Consistory, Kaaba Temple Shrine, '33' Club, and Muscatine Club; he was a Resident Advocate Committee member for the Lutheran Homes Society, and he helped deliver Meals on Wheels.
Bob is survived by his wife, Joan Phillips of Muscatine; his children, Joan Brodie of Des Moines, Byron Phillips and wife, Becky, of Fairmont, Minnesota, and Richard Phillips and wife, Pat, of Muscatine; 10 grandchildren, Todd Brodie, Laura Brodie Peake, Mark Phillips, Jim Phillips, Josh Boyer, Matt Phillips, Michelle Phillips, Michael Phillips, Jon Phillips and Kate Phillips; eight great grandchildren, Jacob Peake, Tanner Brodie, Elizabeth Phillips, Mara Phillips, Ava Boyer, Anna Boyer, Ella Boyer, and Sophia Brodie; one brother, John Phillips and wife, Judy, of Cheyenne, Wyoming; two sisters, Ann Baker and husband, Leo, of Sun City, Arizona, and Mary Arnold and husband, Ken, of Rock Island, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was employed at H.J. Heinz for 26 years, retiring in 2004.

He loved riding his Harley-Davidson, going to the boat, fishing and especially, spending time with his family and friends.

He will be deeply missed by his wife; a son, Steven A. Phillips of Muscatine; a daughter, Stacey A. Phillips of Muscatine; a granddaughter, Megan Phillips; his parents, William A. Phillips and his wife, Nancy, of West Liberty; two brothers, William L. Phillips and Thomas L. McGourty, both of Muscatine; and two sisters, Deann Z. Phillips of Muscatine and Jennifer J. Persons and her husband, Rick, of Taylorville, Ken.

Jerry was born on September 2, 1926, in Humbolt, the son of Ira Ray and Josephine Knutson Phillips. He married Dorothy Ann Monson in Livermore on April 10, 1948. She preceded him in death in 2006.

He was employed as a mechanic at Lucky International Harvester of Columbus Junction, Cambell International Harvester of Wilton. He retired from Bell Ready Mix in 1990.

He was a life long mechanical enthusiast enjoying his work on tractors, motorcycles and cars.

He was a WWII Veteran and a member of the Columbus Junction American Legion and the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

He will be dearly missed by his five children, Sandra Kraft and husband, Dean, of Letts, Dianne Renken and husband, Daryl, of Biggsville, Illinois, Michael Phillips and wife, Betty, of Cotter, Jeffrey Phillips and wife, Jane, of Columbus Junction, and Kathy Hoback and husband, Charles, of Conesville; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Phillips and wife, May, of New Harmony, Indiana; and a sister, Judy Vislisel and husband, Joe, of Robins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a brother, Richard Phillips.

MUSCATINE, Iowa — Ann E. Phillips, 82, of Muscatine, died on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at Lutheran Homes of Muscatine in Muscatine.

In accordance with Ann’s wishes her body has been donated to the University of Iowa Medical School. The Bentley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Ann was born on July 16, 1926, in Mediapolis, the daughter of Clarence and Mae Riepe Houston. She married Arthur Schwabenlander and they were blessed with their son, Bernie. She later married Robert Eis and they were blessed with their son, Robert Jr.

She enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her sons: Bernie Schwabenlander and wife, Julie, of Muscatine, and Robert Eis Jr. and wife, Debbie, of Houston, Texas; and two grandchilren, Sean Schwabenlander and Lindsay Eis.

She was preceded in death by her brothers: Philip, John, Paul, Richard, Harry and Jack Houston.

Mr. Phillips was born June 30, 1921, in Paducah, Ky., the son of John and Shellie Goodrich Phillips. He married Betty Peetz on April 18, 1946, in Muscatine.
He was a World War II veteran serving in the Army Air Corps in the European Theater.
He and his brother, Mylan opened Phillips Bros. Texaco in 1950. In the fall of 1963, they opened Phillips Bros. Sales and Rental, where they sold Dodge cars and trucks along with GMC trucks. In 1976, they opened Phillips Bros. Rental. In 2005, he started Hy-Value Motors.
He was a member of the Walnut Park Baptist Church, where he served as deacon for 50 years. He was also a member of the Muscatine Antique Car Club.
He enjoyed racing and owned several race cars since the middle 1970’s. He also enjoyed NASCAR, he owned an antique car, and was a Dodge enthusiast.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Betty Phillips of Muscatine; a son, Steven Phillips and wife, Janet, Muscatine; two grandchildren, Kristin Hassel and husband, Chris, and Timothy Phillips and wife, Alisa; and a sister, Virginia Bryant and husband, Vernon, of Colona, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Mylan and Leethon Phillips.

DAVENPORT, Iowa - Norman L. Phillips, 82, Davenport, died Thursday, April 13, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center - West Campus, Davenport, after a brief illness.

Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Phillips was born Dec. 3, 1923, the son of Carl and Ethel Hines Phillips. He married Hazel Irene McGinnis in October 1950. She preceded him in death in November 1990. Later, he married Mary Elizabeth Laing on Sept. 10, 1994, in Las Vegas.

He was a World War II veteran stationed in North Pickingham, England. Assigned to the 8th Air Force, he was a tail-gunner on a B24.

He retired from International Harvester, East Moline, Ill., in 1980. He attended Bettendorf First Assembly of God Church, was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing cards.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; siblings, Gwen Robertson of Claremont, Fla., Stuart Phillips and wife Bernice of Mansfield, Ohio, and Evelyn Ford of Muscatine; nephews, Bob Phillips and wife Jo, Marlin Krueger and wife Darcy and Gary Krueger and wife Sara; stepchildren, D. She was a homemaker and an avid NASCAR fan, especially watching Dale Earnhardt Jr. She enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeye basketball and the Chicago Bulls. She loved to cook and to watch Wheel of Fortune, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Michael Phillips and wife Betty of Columbus Junction and Jeffrey Phillips and wife Jane of Fredonia; three daughters, Sandra Kraft and husband Dean of Tipton, Dianne Renken and husband Daryl of Monmouth and Kathy Hoback and husband Charles of Conesville; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; her twin brother, Donald 'Buddy' Monson and wife Perk of Alden, Minn.; and two sisters, Gay Stucker and husband Gene of California and Margaret Wilder of Syracuse, N.Y.

She was a member of Jesus Mission Church, vice president of Pearl City Outreach where she prepared food and food baskets for anyone who needed them. She also volunteered at Jessica Fay Closet.

She enjoyed cooking, spending time with her family, gardening, and being outdoors. She enjoyed attending church and reading the Word of the Lord.

Mrs. Phillips was born on Feb. 18, 1923, in Mt. Carmel, Ill., the daughter of Fred and Blanche Leet Stroughmatt. She married Ellis Phillips Jr. in Iowa City on April 16, 1949.

She worked for the Muscatine School System for nine years.

She enjoyed watching television, going to yard sales, fishing on the Mississippi River and loved her dog, Tiger.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Phillips of Muscatine; three grandchildren, Jack Gould, Clint Gould and Ann Gould; and two great-grandchildren, Dustin and Karrah.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in July 2000; five brothers and two sisters.

ATALISSA, Iowa - Delbert E. Phillips, 70, of Cass Lake, Minn., formerly of Atalissa, died Sunday Nov. 5, 2000, at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji, Minn., following a short illness.

Funeral services will be held at10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. The Rev. Terry Mahnke will officiate. Burial will be at the Overman Cemetery in Atalissa.

Mr. Phillips was born April 29, 1930, near Atalissa, the son of Carl and Elsie Gatzke. He was a graduate of Atalissa High School in 1947. He served with the U.S. Army Signal Corp during the Korean Conflict. In March of 1987 he retired after 30 years from Stanley Consultants in Muscatine. Mr. Phillips moved from the family farm in 1988 to make his home at Cass Lake.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Atalissa and a member of the American Legion Post No. 0584 in Wilton.

He is survived by three sisters, Audrey McMichael and her husband, Vernon of Tampa, Fla., Ruth Sterner and her husband, Raymond, of Davenport and Donna Jehle and her husband, Bob, of Durant; a cousin Alyce Phillips of Durant; several nieces and nephews; a very special friend Raymond Coss and his sons, Shane, Judd and Kieg of Cass Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Graveside services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Thursday at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Maquoketa. The Rev. Clair Odell of the First United Methodist Church in Maquoketa will officiate.

Mr. Phillips was born on April 29, 1923, in LaCrosse, Wis., the son of George J. and Anna Ida Eye Phillips. He married Edna M. Baguss on May 5, 1951, in Maquoketa. She preceded him in death on June 13, 1989.

He was a 1941 graduate of Maquoketa Community High School and attended a trade school in California.

He was a World War II veteran of U.S. Army and received machinist training at an Army Ordinance School in Springfield, Mass.

He worked as an industrial engineer for several companies including Clinton Engines, John Deere, J.I. Case, HON Industries, retiring from Sears Manufacturing in 1981. He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Muscatine and the Good Sam's Club. He enjoyed camping, go-carting, model airplanes and crocheting.

Survivors include a daughter, Teresa A. Anderson and her husband, Dennis, of Muscatine; a son, James D. Phillips and his wife, Anastasia C. of Des Moines; a grandson, Chris Anderson and his fiance, Melissa Garrett, of Iowa City; and three sisters, Vivian Miller and her husband, Carlyle 'Curly' Dorothy Koehn and Mildred Heneke, all of Maquoketa; and a special friend, Alice Plemmons of Muscatine.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a brother, Lester Phillips.

She managed the Davenport Donutland for about four years.

She enjoyed playing bingo and crocheting.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 388; the American Legion Post 584, the High Prairie United Methodist Church. He was a life member of the Muscatine Men's Bowling Association. He farmed until 1980.

Survivors include his wife, Erma Phillips of Muscatine; one daughter, Carla Deckard and her husband, Lavelle, of Long Lane, Mo.; two granddaughters, Beth Meyers and her husband, Jim, of El Dorado Springs, Mo., and Debby Polston and her husband, Gary, of Buffalo, Mo.; three great-grandsons, Justin and Matt Polston and Darris Meyers; two brothers, Norman Phillips and his wife, Mary, of Davenport, and Stuart Phillips and his wife, Bernice, of Mansfield, Ohio; and two sisters, Evelyn Ford of Muscatine, and Gwendolyn Robertson and her husband, Gordon, of Fort Meyers, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters in infancy.

JACKSON, Minn. -- Juanita Anna Cochran Phillips, 88, of Jackson, formerly of Muscatine, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at the Good Samaritan Center in Jackson.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Jackson. The Rev. John Holt and Dr. Martin Lucin will officiate. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Jackson.

Visitations are 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Sathe-Osterberg Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.

Mrs. Phillips was born on March 22, 1913, in Muscatine, the daughter of William and Anna Webb Cochran. She married Floyd N. Phillips on July 14, 1945, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 1987.

She graduated from Muscatine High School in 1931.

She was a secretary for Poole transfer after high school. She worked until 1946 and then was a stay-at-home mom. In 1978, she and her husband moved into the Clark House, where she worked in the office and he did maintenance work.

In 1986, they moved to Jackson to watch their grandchildren grow up. She became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center May 22, 1996.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Muscatine; and Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Jackson, where she was a member of the church Circles.

She enjoyed her grandsons and became an avid Huskies fan. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, knitting many mittens for the sharing tree at Our Savior's Lutheran Church and making afghans for the residents of the Good Samaritan Center.

Survivors include a son, William 'Bill' Phillips and his wife, Sandy, of Jackson; and two grandsons, Shane Phillips and Anthony Phillips.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

MUSCATINE, Iowa - Ellis Phillips Jr., 75, of Muscatine, died, Friday, July 14, 2000, at Muscatine Care Center.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery.
The Rev. Bruce Martin will officiate. Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for Genesis Hospice.

Mr. Phillips was born March 12, 1925, in Webster Co., Mo., the son of Ellis and Georgia Hurst Phillips. He married Violet Jean Stroughmatt on April 16, 1949, in Iowa City.

He enjoyed woodworking and fishing on the Mississippi River and had the nickname ''The Catfish King''.

He retired from Red Jacket Sump Pump Company after 33 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Violet Phillips of Muscatine; a daughter, Patricia Phillips of Muscatine; three grandchildren, Jack, Clint and Ann Gould; two great-grandchildren, Dustin and Karrah; a sister, Katherine Brei and her husband, Ron, of Muscatine.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jim and Floyd Phillips; and a sister, Ruth Cox.

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa -- Leonard Francis Phillips Jr., 56, New Hampton, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at the New Hampton Care Center, New Hampton.

Services are 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction. The Rev. Danny Phillips will officiate. Pallbearers are Mitch Schweitzer, Joel Connor, Leo Axtel Jr. and Mariah J. Schweitzer. Burial will be at the Columbus City Cemetery.

Mr. Phillips was born Oct. 17, 1947 in Muscatine, the son Leonard and Agnes Houk Phillips Sr.
He was a volunteer worker and served as a CNA at several area nursing homes.

Survivors include a son, Leonard Phillips III of Davenport; sisters, Ruth Wykert and husband Melvin of Muscatine, Sandra Coles and husband George and Kathy Schweitzer and husband Ken, all of Grandview; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

LETTS, Iowa -- Sherdie L. Phillips Sr., 87, Letts, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at his home.

Services are 1 p.m. Sunday at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. The Rev. Sue Harper will officiate. Pallbearers are Bob Pogue, David Pogue, Rocky Phillips, Ricky Phillips, Matt Phillips and Jeff Coder. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Phillips and Lee Salek. Burial will be at Oakgrove Cemetery. After the burial, a luncheon will be held at the Grange Hall, Cranston.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Phillips was born on Dec. 6, 1915, in Leasburg, Mo., the son of H. Sherd and Kizzie Campbell Phillips. He married Wilma V. Galbraith on April 7, 1935, in Blair's Creek, Mo.

He and his wife shared their 68th wedding anniversary this past Monday.

He served in the 90th Infantry during World War II and he was awarded five Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5166 in Wapello.

Prior to moving to Iowa in 1952, he drove a truck, farmed and logged timber in southern Missouri. He farmed with the Cashman Brother Farms from 1952 until he semi-retired in 1992.
Since that time he has engaged in hog farming with his son, Brad.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, playing cards and listening to the St. Louis Cardinal baseball games.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Phillips; two sons, Sherdie 'Buck' Phillips Jr. and his wife, Sue, of Columbus City and Brad Phillips and his wife, Cathy, of Letts; four daughters, Joyce Coder and her husband, John, of Letts, JoAn Pogue and her husband, Tyman, of Ballwin, Mo., Rosemary Salemink and her husband, Dennis, of Des Moines and Robin Phillips of Letts; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Phillips; a sister, Clela Thomas; a granddaughter, Jill Coder; a grandson, Joey Phillips; and a great-grandson, Jakie Phillips.

MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Ruth Garnet Vetter Phillips, 100, died on Friday, March 16, 2007, after a lengthy illness at Bickford Cottage Assisted Living Center.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2007, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Phillips was born on January 27, 1907, in Muscatine, the daughter of Allie M. Teel Vetter and Fred C. Vetter. On March 4, 1927, she married Sherwood R. Phillips in Rockford, Illinois. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1956.

Ruth Vetter graduated from Muscatine High School in 1924 and attended National Park Seminary in Washington, D.C. and the University of Iowa, where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority.

She was active in her father's business, the Hawkeye Button Company, was a volunteer for the Red Cross, a national officer of Gamma Phi Beta, served as mother advisor for Rainbow, was a member of Eastern Star, Chapter JR of PEO, and the Presbyterian Church.

She enjoyed traveling and spent summers in Estes Park, Colorado, where she was active in the Summer Residents Association.

Survivors include her three children, Frederick S. Phillips and his wife, Patricia, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Suzanne R. Hirsch and her husband, Herbert, of St. Petersburg, Florida; and Martha A. Allbright of Littleton, Colorado. There are nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, two sisters and her husband.

KEOSAUQUA, Iowa — Maynard A. Philips, 87, of Keosauqua, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at the Lutheran Homes, Muscatine.

The Rev. Bryon Wixom will officiated. Cremation will follow the service with private burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa.

Memorials to Happy Day Express preschool or a charity of donor’s choice may be left at the funeral home.

He was born Aug. 29, 1920, in rural Jefferson County the son of Lealdes and Edith Crenshaw Philips. He married Mildred H. Bettis Feb. 18, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. She died June 8, 1985.

He lived in the Fairfield, Hillsboro and Stockport communities and many years in Keosauqua. He farmed, drove a cream truck for Keosauqua Creamery and worked at Iowa-Missouri Hi-Bred Corn Co.

He was an active member of Keosauqua United Metho-dist Church, a regular assistant at Happy Day Express pre-school in the church, bowled on the Iowa-Missouri team, was an avid sports fan and had been a Cub Scout leader.

He is survived by three daughters, Connie Miller and husband, Robert of Muscatine, Mary Weaver and husband, Gary of Davenport and Sandi Slater and husband, Steve of Denison, Iowa; a son, Mike Philips and wife, Kay of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four sisters; Treva Greiner, Meda Kopsieker, Shirley Baird and Erma Johnston, all of Fairfield and a sister-in-law, Ruth Pothoven of Hollister, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; an infant son, Richard; a granddaughter, Taryn Philips; three brothers, Dale, Donald 'Tubby' and Doyle Philips and a sister, Eva Hootman.

All I know about the Phillips Family is my grandfather's name and possibly some of the siblings, but I'm not sure about those. My grandfather was Samuel Marion Phillips, 12-2-1881 in Arkansas.
