I have Pamela Violet L Deighton b 1940 to George Horace Deighton and Elsie Briancourt (who married in 1939). I also have Elsie Briancourt marrying Stanley C Dixon in 1930. I cannot get a Philo connection, although I do have elsewhere two Philo brothers marrying two Deighton sisters.

Hello,
If you are the Marin I think you are then your Father is Richard Philo? If this is correct we are related. My grandfather was William Henry Philo, married to Hild Mae Reitz. William was born in France, Hilda in Germany. If this sounds like it could be the same as your ancestors then let me know. I have much family history.
I wonder if you can tell any more about Fanny Philo who was born in Mattishall in Norfolk in either 1818 or 1837, please. She married a Mr. Breeze and they had 3 daughters, Fanny, Julia (my great grandmother) and Anne. I found the censuses very confusing. She appeared to have been born at Mattishall in Norfolk, but it's difficult to make out when. The 1881 and 1891 show her as a lady of 63 and 73, but in 1861 she appears to have been 24 and in service. In 1841 ahe was 4. Unfortunately, I was not able to find the other censuses which might have helped. I would think that maybe she was a grandmother to Fanny Millatt in 1881 and 1891, but the census says 'dtr.'
Can you help at all, please?
Clare Westheuser

Yes, you have talked to me before and I lost your email when I became disabled and I am home now. Alfred Quan Philo is my ex's great great grandfather I do believe. I have to get my Philo info and go from there. I have a Philo book that was given to me over 20 years ago. I was married to Donald Eugene Philo being his third wife. His mother and dad were Charles Eugene Philo and Viola Stella Woodard Philo. Charles' parents are Emma Isabella Smith Philo and Charles William Philo. I believe his parents were Charles Mearl Philo and Stella Chambers Philo..I am not sure of the last named Philo's as yet though. I don't know where they came from but I tend to think it was New York. I do know they have been in Michigan for a number of years though. Donald was an only child. I found a death certificate for a Pheba Philo in the Grand Traverse County Courthouse a long time ago. The Elder Philos are gone now but I have ancestry for a month so I am doing a lot of search for them. My ex's Dad had a brother named A.J. and I want to think he was named after that Grandfather Alfred Quan Philo but I don't know for sure. He had sisters June Philo Smith, Edna Philo Balliet and Ethel Zulima Philo Gasche. June is the only one living. This is to long so more later. Thanks a lot for any help you can give me and have a nice day. Cathy Philo

Re: Nathan Philo/Fillow

Donald L. Jacobus, "History and Genealogy of the Families of Old Fairfield" (Baltimore: Genealogical Pub. Co., Inc., 1976) Vol II, p. 9: states -
Abraham ADAMS married at Redding, 9 May 1740, Elizabeth WILLIAMS, born 31 Aug 1719; she married (2) ______ FILLIO, and died in 1789. Administration on Estate of Elizabeth FILLOW, formerly Elizabeth ADAMS, of Redding, was granted to Joseph Adams of Redding, 8 Apr 1789. Distribution, 8 Apr 1791: eldest son Joseph ADAMS; 3d son Abel ADAMS; Anna wife of Samuel JACOCKS; heirs of Elizabeth wife of Nathan FILLOW; Benjamin ADAMS; Abraham ADAMS; Huldah wife of Zachariah FERRIS; Asahel ADAMS; Lydia wife of Arnon CROW.
This suggests Elizabeth (Williams) Adams married 2nd a ________ Fillow, and that her daughter by Abraham Adams, Elizabeth, married Nathan Fillow.

William Upton, "Notes & Queries" NEHG Register, vol. 41, Jan 1887, p. 90: states
Elizabeth Adams, married ___ Fillon [Fillon should be Fillow or Phillo], "son of her mother's second husband."
From above it is believed Elizabeth Adams, daughter of Elizabeth (Wiliams) Adams married Nathan Philo or Fillow. William Upton suggests Elizabeth (Williams) Adams married 2nd the father of Nathan Philo. Nathan's parents are believed to be John Fillow and Phebe Olmsted. Did Elizabeth (Williams) Adams marry 2nd John Fillow? Records I have seen suggest she married 2nd in 1765/66. Other records I have seen indicate that John Fillow's 1st wife did not die until 1789, which does not fit with her husband, John, marrying Elizabeth (williams) Adams in 1765/6.
Hope this helps

Jane Philo Muir from Wood County, Ohio to Emmet County, Michigan

I am hoping some of the Philo family will know about Jane Philo born 1859 and died 1919 in Emmet County Michigan. According to the Wood County, Ohio marriages she married John Muir on the 18th of January 1878 in Wood County. By the 1910 census, they are living in Emmet County, Michigan. After Jane's death, her husband and children seem to disappear.
Hope someone may have an idea where they may have gone.
Thank you.
Maggie
