Anne,

The book is set to be published by early 2007 by the Newbury Street Press (part of New England Historic Genealogical Society, online at www.newenglandancestors.org).

Your great great grandfather Niles T. Phippen was born at Salem 10 January 1812, son of Robert and Abigail (Gavet) Phippen and grandson of Robert Phippen, an Englishman who arrived at Salem about 1782 (when he married Lydia Valpy). This Robert Phippen was NOT descended from the earlier American Phippens (David of Boston). Robert was a mariner, but was definitely known to have been a foreigner, not of New Egland birth (his own minister wrote as much in his diary). He may have settled in Salem at least partly because other Phippens were there—perhaps recognized as some sort of kin. The book contains a detailed 4-generation genealogy of the descendants of this Robert Phippen (the first ever in print) as well as the larger genealogy of descendants of David of Boston. Your Niles had a brother and an uncle named Abraham, and a brother Jonathan.
