Tome (my great grandfather) and Mate (his brother) immigrated to Plaquemines Parish in Louisiana (around 1905). They were oyster fishermen before moving to New Orleans around 1915. They owned and operated a restaurant/bar in New Orleans. Tom married Adele and had 6 children:

Thomas
Nicol, a son died during birth. I didn't know about him, but found his death record in the Louisiana archives.
Mary (my grandmother)
Nicholas--died in World War II
Louise
Leon

During my research, I noticed a newspaper article about a Tom Piacun in Oakland, CA. Also, some of the Piacuns were held in prison camps during WW II and I've heard stories of Tom's mother, Mary Angelinovich Piacun being held in a camp as well. I have pictures of her. Tom's mother moved to New Orleans and lived with Tom and Adele for a while, but eventually went back to Croatia.

I think it is very interesting that Piacun originated from Piazzoni in Italy. I always wondered if there was a connection.

Thank you so much for the information!!

Was interested in your enquiry.
My maternal grandfather was Mate Piacun who came to New Zealand in 1891.
According to my family tree Nikola (Nikolac)1864 to 1926 was married to Mare Angjelinovic 1870 to 1962.There are differences in the spelling but your spelling might be the Americanisation of their Croation names (Dalmation.) They originated from the Island of Hvar and lived in the town of Sucuraj.Hvar is renowned for its beauty.
Nikola was the 2nd child of Tome(Tomaz)1831 to 1914 and Ane
Bergurvic who was Tome's 1st wife. They were married in 1861.Tome and Ane had 5 children as follows-
Jele-1859
Pasko-1861to1937
Nikola -1864to 1926 ( your relation)
Antun-1866to1933
Tomaza-1868

Nikola and Mare had 7 chidren as follows
Tome-1889to 1935 USA married Adele Scarabin and had 4 children
Mate-1891 USA
Ane-1894 to 1976. Married Mick Ivicevic-1884to1943Had 3 children Marisa,Ago and Tony(New Zealand)
Vicko-1896 1953(Australia)
Frane-1899 (Australia)
Srecka-1901to1991 Married Victor Jelicic (New Zealand)
Agneza-1904- Married Groso Vujnovic.
Tome married a second time to Tadica Jelicic and had 13 children after Ane died.

My grandfather was one of the 13 by the 2nd wife.

If you want to go back beyond I have further imformation.
The Piacuns have been in Sucuraj for over 250 years. When they first arrived -from Italy- Most likely from Venice they where known as Piazzoni, which translates as " from the piazza!
The first record is in 1759 when Franco Piazzoni arrived from Makarska as a Venetian public servant. He was born in Makarska in 1717and died in 1802.Makarska is a town on the Dalmation Coast.

I hope this of help to you, contact me if I can help.
