POW/MIA Korean War, PICKENS

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Allen County, Indiana as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: RUSSELL BLAIR PICKENS
Born: Feb. 20, 1931, Caucasian
Date of loss: July 20, 1950, MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Pickens family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
About 15 years ago, my children were taken to a family reunion by their birth father and were never brought home. Legal battles regarding this went on for years and then birth father got remarried and disallowed me to have any contact with my children. I lived in another province and did not have the financial means to visit my children on a reg. basis but did send alot of gifts and spoke with the children on the telephone on a daily basis. soon after the birth father remarried, any attempts at visitation would result in me showing up to get the children and no one being around and after a week or so of trying to contact the children, I would have to return to my home province. Over the years I have sent numerous letters to the children(c/o their father), to their grandparents(on father's side), to aunts and uncles(on father's side) and no response. These children have needed me for a long time and I have missed them everyday that they have not been with me. The boys are now 22 and 24 years old. Please, if anyone has any information on my children, contact me.

Middle name could be Madison. He died 1961 to 1963 from a sudden illness. (Cancer I believe) I also believe Sams father to have been named Frank (possibly Francis)

Sam married Norma G. Means and had two children, both still living, James Francis Pickens probably born around 1942- 1945, and Linda Pickens..

This family was from the Wellsville, Yellow Creek, East Liverpool Ohio area. It's said that Sam worked on the river. Sam and Norma divorced early in their marriage.

I was able to contact a David Pickens (my fathers cousin) in Yellow Creek sometime last year but he was not very friendly and would not answer my questions.

I do not live anywhere near Ohio and therefore do not have easy access to written records.

If you can shed some light on this line, please contact me................ Regards, Jim
Does anyone recognize these names?

Can anyone shed some light on the following individuals found in the 1860 census for Henderson County, district 12, Tennessee:

A M Pickens 49 1810 North Carolina Male
S W Pickens 45 1814 Tennessee Female
M L Pickens 18 1841 Tennessee Female
C C Pickens 15 1844 Tennessee Female
S W Pickens 13 1846 Tennessee Male
V N Pickens 11 1848 Tennessee Female
S A Pickens 8 1851 Tennessee Male

At first I thought perhaps is was Archibald M Pickens, because the census record indicates that he was a farmer and minister at Marl Branch Presbyterian from 1855 - 1863(posted on a gravestone); however the subsequent family names do not match. I belive the 13 year old male my be a family member by the name of Samuel W Pickens. The birth date is within range, location of birth is correct and information regarding the place of birth for father and mother are correct. However, since only initials are given I'm stuck.

Samuel W Pickens shows up on the Lauderdale county census for 1870 and forward.

Thanks for all you help.
WWII Veteran John F Pickens

I am searching for a veteran of WWII, John Pickens, who served in the 561st Field Artillery Battalion. He would have been born between 1906 and 1925. I've checked the World War II Memorial Registry, and gathered all the data I can from the Social Security Death Index and the 1930 Census. Unfortunately, both the SSDI and 1930 Census do not give me anything on military service for WWII.

I am posting messages to hopefully get some info directly from veterans or their family. I will be pursuing getting data from the Army Records Center in St. Louis. Maybe the combination of sources will work for me.

The 561st FA Bn has an informal association, and an annual reunion; thus this work to find WWII veterans of the unit.
I live in the northwest, and my family lost track of my cousin Betty Pickens of Columbus Ohio and her family. She had one son Ray that I know of, born 1946. Betty sent me a Crosby family history about 10 years ago, I have some questions and would like to connect with her son whom I have never met, and is my same age.

myrtle rebecca pickens>John w. Pickens and Elizabeth Kesler. The Pickens name is not the easiest to research. I can place John and Elizabeth in Idaho in 1880 via the census but can not find any info on John's parents. Can anyone point me in a direction that may provide an insight?

Hello from Australia!
My name is Giselle Roberts and I am looking for information on the family of Chiliab Smith Howe and Julia Pickens Howe (daughter of U.S. congressman and Alabama governor Israel Pickens) of Mississippi. The couple had three daughters: Ellen married John Richardson (who served as 2nd lieutenant in Company C, 11th Mississippi Infantry Regiment) in 1861, Laura married J. Byrd Williams (who served as captain of the 11th Mississippi Regiment) in 1860 and Jo, who was never married. The family lived in Okolona, Mississippi between 1840s - 1865, and later moved to Memphis and Paris, Texas. Any information would be very much appreciated! Thank you!
