Volume III for "A Gathering of Picketts"

Does anyone have information on status of Volume III of this work by Rosemary B. Hill and Dixie J. Clark? Volume II was published in 1999. Volume I looks at a family of Picketts in Virginia and Kentucky. Volume II focuses on North Carolina. Volume III is supposed to focus on South Carolina. I found Volumes I & II at Tennessee State Library and Archives in Nashville, TN, but think are also available through LDS/Family Search.
Thanks in advance.

Greetings!

I am trying to locate General George Pickett in the 1870 Census and not having any luck. Has anyone located him and wife Sallie/LaSalle? They are suppose to be living in Richmond, Virginia in a hotel. I do have a confirmation of them being in a hotel in March of 1870.

Please reply to sapley@fortworthlibrary.org

Thanks in advance,

Shirley Apley

Searching for Birth, Death, Marriage Information for Abe Pickett, Conelia Pickett, US Grant Pickett

I'm trying to find birth parents for Conelia Pickett. She was married to Abe Pickett in 1880 census in Lampassas Texas. She was born in Virginia. If I can find her and Abe's marriage records perhaps I could find her maiden name. She and Abe had a son US Grant Pickett, he was 6 months old in June of 1880. He was born in Texas. If I could find a record of his birth, perhaps I could find his mothers maiden name. Conelia had four other children before marrying Abe Pickett. A son, Anderson Weaver age 17, twin daughters Ida and Ada Burkes age 9, and Moddie Owen age 3. Ida Burkes is my great grandmother. I'm trying to trace our ancestry through her mother, whom I believe to be Conelia Pickett. Conelia maybe her middle name or first name with Salina being either her middle name or first name. I'd like to know her maiden name before having any children and who her parents were and where they came from.

Is it just me or does anyone else think that this pipe dream could and should happen? I think we should create a Pickett Family Association to help others and have a website and membership. My ancestor, Eli K. Pickett was married to a Melinda Griswold and there is a Griswold Family Association, with publications and help for others. I think there's enough Picketts out there to do it. What does anyone think about this?

William Sanford Pickett, Jr. in Pike County, Missouri

I am working on my husband's line. His great-great-great-great grandfather William Sanford Pickett, Jr. came to Pike County, Missouri with his wife Nancy Burroughs Cash Pickett from Virginia by way of Kentucky. They brought her three sons John, George and Thomas Cash with them. Also their five children: James, Alfred, Nancy, Mary and Sarah. James married Nancy Goldberry and they had three children: James Bennett, Mary and Lois. William Sanford Pickett and his wife, Alfred Pickett and his wife, and other family members are buried in Pike County in the John Cash/Pickett family cemetery. William Sanford's brother, Sanford Pickett went to Shelby County, Missouri, and many of his family are buried there. I am interested in contacting any cousins of these families.
Teresa Wenzel

Trying to tie in a Pickett burial in Newton County, GA, to other Picketts in Newton Co., GA

I visited the Pickett Cemetery on Highway 36 in Covington, Newton County, GA a week or so ago, and upon inputting data and photos, I couldn't quite make out dates on the stone. I started doing internet searches on the Picketts that were there, one of which was Elizabeth Pickett (1808-1899), wife of Bright Pickett.

The one Pickett burial that interests me, mainly because I can't find him listed as a son, brother, etc. of the other Picketts, is Gervis Pickett. Here's a link to his marker:

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=28...

If anyone can help me in determining where he fits in with these other Picketts, and any other information on him, I would be grateful.

Thank you!

Lisa

Picketts in Sequatchie Valley, Tennessee

I am still searching for information about Picketts who settled in Sequatchie Valley (Sequatchie and Marion Counties). I cannot find the parents of my ggg grandfather, John A. Pickett (nickname??: Redman or Redmond) b. abt. 1795 in NC? He came to Sequatchie Valley about 1820-1825. He was married twice: (1) Pernina Sneed (2) Ruth Griffin. He died in 1868/1869 and is buried in Pickett cemetery.
My gg grandfather was his son, Meridith (or Merida) b. abt. 1820. My information is that Meridith had two wives (1) Milly Johnson (2) Margaret Holland.

Any additional information would be appreciated. I would be very interested in corresponding with others working on this family.
Thanks! Elizabeth

Families in Marblehead, MA, in early 1700's (and in Essex, MA)

Hello. One of my family-tree mysteries is about the extended family of William and Sarah (BANCROFT) WILKINS of early 1700's Middleton, MA. I believe they moved to "Maine" in the 1770's, and I am trying to find out if they had a last child in "Maine" in 1770's, named Samuel WILKINS. I am descended from Samuel through 2 of his children, and I would like to find out if Samuel is descended from the patriarch, Bray WILKINS.

Last fall I wrote to the Middleton (MA) Historical Society, and in December I received a very important e-mail from them. A man researched the family of Robert and Elizabeth (PICKETT) BANCROFT, who were the parents of Sarah.

He found that Elizabeth was probably the daughter of John PICKETT, Jr., and Elizabeth SEVERY, who married in Marblehead, MA, in 1721. This Mrs. PICKETT probably died young, as John was remarrying in 1726 to a Miriam ALLEN. John and Miriam had 10 children. I am just putting this information together in my head, so I have not yet found out the names of the children of John and Miram.

The researcher suggested that I wrote to the Marblehead (MA) Historical Society and ask about the PICKETT and SEVERY families. I have not yet done that but will try to do that this week.

These surnames come down a generation, as Robert and Elizabeth (PICKETT) BANCROFT had 12 children, with possible names: Timothy, Sarah, Elizabeth, John Pickett, Mary, Robert, Thomas, Daniel, Severy, Marjory, Andrew, and Eunice.

I believe the 1820 census has PICKETT families in Marblehead and in Essex, MA; I'll have to recheck that.

Is anyone else researching these families?

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

(on Lists for 7 years; now an Administrator of 7 Lists)

The family spent the early years of his life in French Indo-China carrying out the calling of missionary work. After Elder Pickett's death in 1938, the family returned to the U.S. settling in Sugar City, Colorado. There he grew to have a deep love for the outdoors, hunting and fishing, along with a wry sense of humor and fondness for early western films. Married Dona Langdon Creekmore Sept. 24, 1971 (died April 26, 1991). Married Sharlynn Allen Nov. 1, 1997, later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple Nov. 18, 1999 (died April 28, 2005). The last years of his life were blessed by the friendship of Leila Heap, who brought such joy and happiness to his life.John is survived by his grandchildren Kory (Brett) Ellis, Jamie (Jamie) Creekmore and five great-grandchildren, all of Grantsville, special friend, Leila Heap of Tooele, sister, Joan Johnston of Lewiston, ID, along with aunts, uncles and cousins.
Am seeking information on Margaret Whittaker who married
Rufus Pickett in Caroline Co. VA about 1868. They had
3 children, I think, William S. (1869), Cora Lee (1870) and
Cristina (1873) Margaret (Whittaker) Pickett is listed in the
1900 Caroline County census as being born 1850 and now
widowed living with Cora Lee Pickett Sullivan family. Any
info would be appreciated via the boards or email at
Gingelbell@aol.com. Thanks

WILKINS, BANCROFT, PICKETT, 1700's MA

Hello.

I am trying to find more information about a couple, William WILKINS and Sarah BANCROFT who probably married around 1770 in Middleton, MA.

According to the "WILKINS book,"

"William WILKINS .... He married Sarah Bancroft, who was the daughter of an Indian, whose mother was a Pickett. .."

Over the past few years, each time I read this, I understand it differently. But, today, I think it means:

Sarah BANCROFT's father was a Native American. And, Mr. BANCROFT's mother was a PICKETT.

Either way, I am trying to find out who Sarah's parents were. There were several Sarah BANCROFT's in the area, but none match up with William's wife.

I'm also trying to find out if William and Sarah WILKINS moved to northern "Maine" in the 1770's and had another child. They had 3 in MA, but 2 died.

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

Most interested in Meredith Pickett (b.~1820, Tenneessee) and his descendants including John (b~1845) married to Martha Williams (5 children).
Any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Still looking for my Pickett/Picket links. Frederick/Frederich Picket was born in East Canada. His wife was Mary. In the 1870 US census they were living in Rutland, Jefferson Co. NY. They had the following children:
Fred, Phillis (who may be my great grand mother (Frizzie),
Lester and Willie/William.

In the 1910 Rutland census, William has married a Margaret L and they have the following children: Bessie B, Bertha, Willie B, Leslie L and George L, all using the last name of Pickett.

By 1920, the LeRay, Jefferson Co. NY census shows William and Margaret with a William and Francis in the household.

By 1930 George L has married a Gertrude E Lane and is living in Watertown, Jefferson, NY. They have the following children: George W, and Margaret E.

Also in 1930, in Watertown, William B Pickett is married to Bertha H and they have Kenneth L, Robert G and Gilbert J.

I am hoping to find out any information on this line of Canadian/New York Picketts that may give me more information about Phillis(Frizzie)who may have married my great grandfather, George Gilbert Passino (Pierce) from Jefferson, Co. NY.

I have a collection of very old photos that belonged to Corinne Pickett, wife of Henry M. Holley of Coushatta, LA. Most appear to date from about 1900 and are of people and places. If you are related to these Pickett or Holley families in this area please email me. I will send a copy of the photo in a .jpg format and maybe I can identify some of these people.

fyi, Corinne Pickett attended a girls finishing school in Meridian, MS and some of these photos appear to be students from there taken by a studio in Meridian, MS.

thanks,
Susan Holley
bholley@bayou.com

PICKETTS of Campbell/Kenton Co, KY

Looking for confirmation that Beal PICKETT and Verlinda RICHARDSON, married in Campbell Co, KY in 1804 are the parents of Hezekiah PICKETT who married Mary Ann GREEN in same county in 1834. Hezekiah and Mary Ann PICKETT had three known children: Beal PICKETT, b 1836; Elvira/Almira PICKETT, ca 1837; and John W. PICKETT, b. 1842. The family moved to Jackson and Randolph Co, IL after 1842 and all three children married there.

Hez. died shortly after the move, and Mary Ann PICKETT married Isaac HARPER ca 1847 Randolph Co. IL, and may have had more children, but Isaac died soon afterwards, too. I don't know the PICKETT line Hezekiah belongs to, although I have lots of info on the older lines so I can connect when I get there. I also don't know anything about Mary Ann GREEN and need her parents. Would like to correspond with cousins and will share any info I have.

I'm looking into the surname BEALL/BEALE as the source of Beal PICKETT's first name. The only PICKETT-BEALL connection I've found is that, in his will, Col. Martin PICKETT, Sr., husband of Ann Blackwell, named his children, their spouses and children, then named all six children of Benjamin and Jennet (Kennedy) BEALL, both were deceased at the time Martin made out his will. Martin also named Jennet's brother, James KENNEDY, in his will. In Jennet's will she said she was the daughter of William and Mary KENNEDY. So why would her children and her brother be named in Martin PICKETT's will?

book with some Pickett genealogies

I found a book published in 1911 by Stella Pickett Hardy that contains a chapter on some Pickett genealogy. Most of book follows a group of Picketts from Virginia. Although some lines are untraced, this might be a resource or stimulus for further research. I found the book by searching the WorldCat database (available in many libraries, particularly colleges and universities)---WorldCat lists some of libraries that own book; you can check with librarian for additional libraries.

The book also has other genealogies as well.
The full title of the book is Colonial families of the Southern states of America: a history and genealogy of colonial families who settled in the collonies prior to the Revolution. The book was originally published in 1911 in NY by Wright.

Anyone have information on this couple? The Edward T. Pickett (born about 1805 in NC?) I am looking for was a brother of John A. Pickett (of Sequatchie Valley, Tennessee). Edward and John A. Pickett acquired land (together) in Sequatchie Valley (Marion and Sequatchie Counties in Tennessee) from about 1824 to 1850 or so. [also probably had brothers named Anderson and William and some sisters-Nancy and Elizabeth). I think Edward moved away from Sequatchie Valley at some point and, perhaps, lived in Alabama for a while. My information is that Edward died in Navarro, Texas.

Heathcoat Pickett-born about 1863

I am thoroughly confused, when researching his family for a friend I have a Wardie Pickett, born January 10, 1888 in Indiana. I found him as a child in the 1900 Census record for Jennings county, on a nearly unreadable page it has the father as Hethorn but it looks like Heathcoat to me born 1863 in Indiana, the wifes name I think is Lillie. I can read Wordie, the the children appear to be Viola, Lola and twins that appear to be Conda and Donda?? Does this sound right to any Pickett researchers out there? Does anyone have correct information on this family. I have found where this Heathcoat is supposedly the son of Heathcoat Pickett of Switzerland County but it would have him born when his father was in his 50's is there another Pickett that is actually his father and Heathcoat of Switzerland County possibly his grandfather.

Any help would be appreciated.

YDNA for Gen George E. Pickett?

Is anyone aware of a YDNA study involving the Pickett family from Virginia, of which Geo E. Pickett was a descendant? I'm considering sponsoring a family member from my maternal side (Pickett), but only if a study already exists.

Regards,

Ric Hutchins
