Hello. I only know as far back as my great grandfather Ephraim Pierpoint born in the Essex/Liverpool area. One of his sons was Harold Pierpoint and his son, my father is Frank Pierpoint. Harold left England in the early 1900's and settled in St. John's Newfoundland.

Lynn Pierpoint-Mallet
Fredericton New Brunswick Canada

Thanks Tommy give me a couple of days and I will send you what I know, I have been away for a week and just returned, I live in Kirkby, just outside Liverpool, and I have managed to trace the Pierpoints on my side of the tree too Ormskirk aa Ezekiel Pierpoint Married in 1754 in Halsll on 20th November to a Margaret Chew he was previously married to a Mary Woods on 15th April 1729 in Wigan, how does this check out with your findings? Coincidently an old family friend from Kirkdale Liverpool was a Jimmy Doyle who`s father owned the funeral directors in the 40/50s any relation.

Are any of you still monitoring the board? My grandmother was Bennie Mai Pierpoint. I think Otto was my grandfather Scott Pierpoint's brother. My father had a sister named Sarah Almira, but,I thought she died at a early age of 16 or so, but that could have been another sister. I attended Uncle Otto's funeral, but was very young, all I can remember is he always wore overalls and smoked a cigar. I live in Tennessee and go to the Mt. Zion cemetery yearly, where there are alot of Pierpoints buried. I can remember my dad talking about alki mae and he always referred to her as aunt alki mae and I think we may have a picture of Uncle John. My dad was Boyd Pierpoint but sadly he died in 2002. He would have known all of this information. All of his brothers and sisters have passed away and now I think only some older cousins may remember more details. There is a benton county tn genealogy website and the history of sulfur creek school is on there. You might find a relative in the picture from 1907 or 1908. My grandmother is in the picture along with several other pierpoints, edgar, elsie, and westell, who was my great or great, great aunt. I think that Aunt Westell did a family tree at some point several years ago, but, not sure where it ever went. Would love to hear if you are related to us. mskmartin@excite.com

Perhaps one of the Bindoff's was married to a Pierpoint?

Thank you. I wil pass all this information on when I post my findings to my friend. All the siblings of Charles Pierpoint can be found on the family tree on this site. Only Ellen who became Jones in 1837,Charles and Henry seem to have produced offspring but there are plenty of them if you follow the censuses down. I am waiting for Liverpool records office to finish some research for me. So far they have given leads to dates of death of Charles parents.
Elizabeth

Do you know where these are ? As I dont think they are near Winwick, so perhaps it isnt the same family if Eliza was born in 1817. I dont have any further details yet of John her father.

Bob, Since my previous post, I have found that Francis Pierpoint married Mary Contriman (not Guntreman) in Harrison County, VA 30 June 1778. Francis was probably the son of Larkin Pierpoint and Sarah Simmons of Prince George's Co.,Maryland. I strongly suspect that Sarah accompanied him when he went to KY early in the 1780's. Would you mind looking in the Hedman book again to see if these people are mentioned? I have been looking for a copy but have been unable to find outside the Library of Congress. Thank you very much for all your help. Karen

Dave, Thank you so much for your information. Your house looks wonderful and it must be interesting to find information about the former owners. The Pierpoints (the name is spelled a number of ways in the early records) came to KY from the Monongalia area of VA/WVA and before that Prince Georges Co, MD. They were Quakers, but seem to have drifted away from that faith after they left MD. One interesting fact is that the Mary Pierpoint who married Samuel Miller ran away to MO with another man and left Samuel with their two daughters in KY. Just a bit of 18th century scandal to make the family tree more interesting. Thanks again. Karen

Pierpoints Run, Monongalia Co., W VA

Does anyone know where this is? My husband's Abercrombie family purchased some land that was part of Pierpoints Run in late 1790's-1848. They owned land (possibly this same land) that later became known as "Crummey's Run"-- located along the Cheat River in Monongalia Co., about 5 miles NE of Morgantown and across the river from Ice's Ferry. Were there Pierpoint families located in this area? Am interested in the history of the area and the Pierpoint family in this area. Thanks.

Do you know if there are any pictures available, particularly of the people. I have made contact with a niece of my grandfathers (Eleanors son Arthur by her first marriage) but have drawn a blank on the photo's etc.
We have no photo's of Arthur Walton or George and Eleanor Pierpoint. Eleanor married George when she was 62 , her first husband was Edwin Walton.

John Pierpont St Helens ENG --> Crawford Co PA

John Pierpont was born March 19, 1815 in St Helens, Lancashire, England to Thomas Pierpont and Mary Appleton. He married Ann Fairclough and had: James, Edward, Thomas, John and Mary. This family, with the exception of James and Edward who died young, embarked on the SS Defense which sailed to America in May of 1850. John's cousin, Thomas Appleton, and his family were also on the ship (Thomas is my ancestor).

John is found in the 1850 census as follows:

1850 18th Ward NYC, NY page 165
John Pierpont 27 Carpenter England
Eliza 27 England (error for Ann)
Thomas 14 England
Mary 9 England
John 3 England

Next door is Thomas Appleton and his family.

I could not find him anywhere in the 1860 Census.

John later moved to Crawford County PA sometime between 1850 and 1870. He appears in the following censuses:

1870 Vernon Township, Crawford, PA, page 8
John Pierpont, 55, M, W, works in R R Machine shop, $900/$500, England
Emeline, 42, F, W, keeping house, England

1880 Vernon Township, Crawford, PA, page 31, ed 120
John Pierpont, M, W, 65, England England England
Susanah, wife, F, W, 55, PA England England

John died February 7, 1882 in Crawford Co., PA.

Can anyone tell me more about his wives: Ann, Emeline and Susanah? When and where did Ann die? What are the maiden names for the last two wives?

John's son, Thomas, moved to New York, then to Canada, and finally in Utah where he converted to Mormonism. He was apparently married to two wives simultaneously and had a number of children by which wife.

John's daughter, Mary, apparently died in 1925. Whether she was married or not, I do not know. Nor do I know where she died.

Any info will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jason Gervase

Looking for a Frank Joseph Pierpoint, b. 1898 in Dublin

Hi everyone --

I thought I'd post to see if anyone had insights for me --

Frank Joseph Pierpoint was my great-grandfather; however I have very little information about him or his family, as my Grandfather never knew him. As a child he was told that his father died before he was born, but I'm not sure if thats true.

Several years ago (in the pre-internet days!) my grandfather tried to contact other Pierpoints in Canada in the hopes that he could find some information about his father; however the only thing he was able to find was his marriage certificate!

From that I know that Frank Joseph Pierpoint was born in 1898 in Ireland, and his parents were Frances Pierpoint and Emma Hutchinson. In 1919 he married Laura May Shier in Toronto, Canada. My grandfather was born in September 1921, so his father may have died in early 1921.

If you have any insights or suggestions, either about Frank Joseph or his parents, I'd appreciate it!

thanks,
Carolyn

My direct descendant Henry P had a brother John, married to Betty (probably Maddock); he was born 1787 Winwick (as Parpoint). They must have been itinerant as children baptised/born: Peter abt 1816 Holcombe; Charlotte b abt 1821 Holcombe; Sarah bap 1824 Tottington; Ann b 1829 Winwick; Ann b 1831 Lowton; Margaret b 1832 Winwick. Some gaps so it is likely there was an Eliza. They are at Croft 1851. Nil Eliza on IGI - do you have certain baptism/birth for in Bury?
