There are articles in the NY Times about him. He committed suicide after being accused of fraud. Google his name and I think the date was around 1907. There was a lawsuit involving Mr. Pearson and Olive S. Day.

I just happened to read your post, regarding Rush Sylvester Pierson, My grandfather is Herbert Rush Pierson, who was from Indiana,he had a brother, who is buried next to him in Kingfisher, Ok. I also remember twin sisters Emma and Gertrude who were twins that lived in Indiana, they visited often,as I remember, as a child. I don't recall their last names, but both lived and died in Indiana. I would be very interested in talking to you.

I don't know if this will help. Mr. & Mrs. Pierson (as I knew them when I was young)
Lived on Johnson Ave. Staten Island, NY. I had contact with them from 1935-1960. They had tow daughters Caroline abt. 88 & Ruth abt 85 today. Caroline's marriage name was Musgrave also of Staten Island. My Uncle Bert McCormick was a Dentist and when he had a strok in 1939 Mr. Pierson would come over and give him a shave. My aunt said the were distant cousins of my McCormick line. I have not been able to confirm this. Justine McCormick

Ephraim Pierson (Peirson/Pearson) conundrum

I'm hoping someone out there has one of the older Pierson books to help sort me out ....

I have David Pierson, s/o Ephraim Pierson & Hannah Barrett
Ephraim Pierson, s/o Ephraim Pierson & Dorothy Bishop

My two quandries: One source (Cleveland genealogies) gives spouse of the junior Ephraim as Hannah Barret (with forefathers as Ephraim Sr, Joseph, Henry), and I found their marriage in Windsor, CT in 1754. However, other sources give the younger Ephraim's spouse as Submit Stowe, m. in 1758. David wasn't born until 1769 (Litchfield CT), so if the Ephraim's are one in the same, there's no way Hannah Barrett is his mother.

My other quandry is that a third source states that Ephraim (h/o Sumbit) died at sea prior to his daughter's birth in 1760, and from what I've found of Ephraim h/o Hannah, he died in 1776 (in Savannah GA?)

My gut tells me I have two separate men, but I can't find one source that definitively spells out their ancestry.

Can anyone help straighten me out? :)
Thanks!
Tiffany

Thank you for the info.

I have seen the Southampton Arms (I too have a photo of it somewhere) but it was explained to me by the SHS that they were collected by a volunteer about 25 years ago, from general Family Arms information at the time. They were not certifiable as Arms that any of the settlers might have carried.

Also remember that Arms were controlled by strict rules, and that not everyone had the rights to carry them. For instance, if Henry Pierson's grandfather had been armigerous , he might have had the rights to bear it, but if his uncle had been granted, he probably did not. So many of the settlers may have simply not born arms.

My husband is an amateur photography and bought a box of old photos and negatives at an estate sale several years ago. Recently, while cleaning out our attic, I rediscovered the photos. The majority are of a Pierson family living in Kansas City, MO. The Pierson's are identified as Leslie B. (male), Frances (female), Margot, Paul, "Father" and "Mother." The name of the photographer is not recorded. Other people with addresses on the same street have been photographed as well. There are also photographs taken in several scenic spots such as Green Mtn. Falls, CO. And there are several photos of Leslie Pierson taken in Buffalo, NY and Crystal Beach, Ontario in 1927 and 1928. If you have information about the people in these photos or they are your family members, contact me. I can give a complete list of names to anyone interested. It's a shame these are not in the possession of a descendant.

You can send me the photo but I may not be able to match it to one of my photos because they are mostly negatives. This makes it hard to see details and facial features. There are a few actual photo prints but some are faded or damaged. Do you have any information about the person in your photo? This may help since the negative enevelopes had notes about when, where, addresses, pet names, neighbors names, etc. I can also probably estimate an age range for most of the people. Send me what you have and I'll do my best.

I noticed the name Charlotte Condit associated with Pierson and must say I'm intrigued. We MAY be related (distantly). My great grandfather was William Pierson & his second wife was Charlotte Porter Crowell. HER mother, however, was Mary Jane Condit,(1817-1863) who married Elias L Crowell (1812-1883). They all lived in Rahway, NJ (Union county). Charlotte gave the middle name Condit to several of her children (the 3 females lived to adulthood, the one boy died at less than a year). I believe the Piersons, Condits may have been 2nd or 3rd cousins. Very confused line & Pierson is such a common name. There is an historic cemetary in Rahway New Jersey, St. Georges Avenue, in which they may be buried. Also, Christ the Holy Comforter Espicopal Church in Rahway, New Jersey may be a source to begin research. Pls. feel free to view my tree and look at William Pierson's line.

Piersons in Indiana and Ohio

Hello,

I'm trying to find information out about my family. My grandfather died when I was very young, and I know his extended family didn't really associate much with the rest of my family after he died, so I have very little information to go on. Basically, all I have is the following:

My grandfather was George Robert Pierson, born 23 Jan 1932 in either Ohio or Indiana. He died on 01 Sep 1984 in Springfield, Ohio.

His parents were named Charles Pierson born 21 Jul 1898, and Anna Johnson born 28 Jul 1895 and died 29 Aug 1959 in Springfield Ohio.

They had several other children, Frank Elwood Pierson, Ada Louise Pierson, Raymond Pierson, and Paul Pierson. I don't think any of them are alive today, unfortunately.

My uncle told me that he had gone to some family reunions in Indiana as a child, but he didn't really remember much else beyond that.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I've looked on FamilySearch and Ancestry (with a paid subscription) and can't find anything evidence of either of my great grandparents other than the draft card for my great grandpa, and no information on who their parents were or anything else.

Thanks,

Shawn Pierson

Re: John Pierson, father of Joseph W. Pierson

Leanna Sharp was born c. 1833 in Ohio. In 1850 she lived in Clinton Co. Ohio. She is recorded in the 1850 Federal Census for Clinton in Dwelling #288, on line #3 of the page on which she appears. Her mother is Keziah, aged 40. Unfortunately her father's name is on the previous page, which I do not have and cannot access at the moment. Siblings are Rachel (19), Solomon (14), Eliza (7), and Reuben B. (3). Keziah was widowed before the 1880 census, and still in Clinton.
Leanna Sharp Pierson was still living in Clinton Co in 1900 with her daughter Ella. The census states she was born in April 1833, and that Ella was born October 1873.
The 1860 census shows John Pierson and 'Anne' living in Clinton Co. with son Joseph, shown as FOUR years old, suggesting a possible problem with that date or the one on his death certificate. On the 1900 census Joseph is shown as 44 years of age, born September 1856, living in Adams Co. Indiana with his wife Ada June and six children, all born in Ohio.
I haven't nailed down John's father yet, but believe he was one of two Benjamin Piersons or Pearsons.
You can contact me at pcpalmer@gvtc.com.
Paul C.
