I am looking for information Johan Bietilæ (as name is now spelled in Norway). I have found several different spellings.

From the Hiski Project I found the marriage of my 2g grandparents:
Kemin maaseurakunta - Kemi landsförsamling - married

24.7.1842 drg: u:k: Joh: Johansson Palokangas
b:d:r Elsa Caisa Henr:d:r Pietilä

Approximately in 1863 they moved to Vadsø His name became Bietila - since it appeared to his wife name, I have thought the name was a farm name and he took it as he lived there.

From the Vadsø, Norway 1865 Census:
Johan Bietila hf g Fisker 1821 Finland k, ophold i Riget 2 Aar
Else Gaisa Henriksdatter hans Kone g 1815 Finland k, ophold i Riget 2 Aar
Henrik Bietila deres Søn ug 1852 Finland k, ophold i Riget 2 Aar
Oluf Hermann Bietila* deres Søn ug 1858 Vadsø k, ophold i Riget 2 Aar

Johan died in 1867:
Varanger Township Death Notice
Died 02.24.1867 Johan Peietilä age 50 (from Kemi)

My ggrandfather Henrik became a fisherman and had several successful businesses. His daughter (my grandmother) immigrated to Astoria, OR.

I have traced the family somewhat but had problems with Johan and hit some brick walls.

I have tried to hunt for Oluf, the youngest son of Johan. He immigrated to the US on 06.30.1881
Oluf Pietilæ 07.05.1858 Husband
Elise Johanna Simonsen Hallonen 04.27.1856 wife
Richard Wilhelm 03.08.1879 son
Nanna Sofie 09.04.1880 daughter

They went to Hancock. I don't know the exact state. I have had no luck finding any of them. My grandmother visited them when she immigrated in 1905. But we don't know where, except my uncle thinks it was Wisconsin. All I remember is that she said it in January and it was as cold as Norway and she wanted to get away form the cold, so she went on to Astoria.

Anything sound familiar to anyone out there.

Thanks,
Pat
