Did you by any chance find the death record for Josephte Belanger, wife of Pierre Piette? It would surely be great if you did -- we've had no luck so far.
Pierre's burial record appears in the 1858 register for Ste-Croix, Dunham. Date is difficult to read, early March, 1858.

Thanks again for your help.

Margaret

You are absolutely correct. Great detective work! After several days of searching, I reached the same conclusion, and shared it with "flowerlady461", with whom, it turns out, I share the same g-great grandparents, Pierre Piette-dit-Lafrenière and Josephte Belanger.

Michel Piette was actually baptized "Pierre" 14 Nov 1847 at Notre-Dame-de-Stanbridge, Missisquoi County, nearly a month after he was born.

The rest of the children of Pierre and Josephte are:
--Leon Piette,Born: 12 Jun 1834 in Ste Mélanie Parish,Joliette County, QC Died: 24 Feb 1866 in Dunham, Missisquoi County, Quebec, Canada, married Victorie Montie (or Montier or Monty)	Born: 03 Feb 1828 in St-Athanase d'Iberville, Quebec, Canada	m: 07 Feb 1853 in Dunham ied: 13 Mar 1899 in Frelighsburg, Quebec, CanadacFather: Jean Baptiste Monty	Mother: Catherine Morin

--Phélonise (Fanny) Piette	Born: 12 May 1832 in Ste-Mélanie Parish,Joliette County, QC married Elzear Plouff Born: 02 May 1831	m: 21 Jul 1851 in Ste-Croix, Dunham, Missisouoi County, Quebec, Canada

--Narcisse Piette	Born: 18 May 1842 in Henryville, Iberville County, Quebec, Canada

--Sophie Piette	Born: 14 Aug 1844 in St-Félix-de-Valois, Joliette County, Quebec, Canada

--Joseph Piette	Born: 05 Apr 1850 in Dunham, Missisquoi County, Quebec, Canada

Thanks for helping us both!

Margaret

Hi, I believe I found your Michel Piette. I found several brothers and sisters that have moved between the Westboro, Grafton and Northbridge areas.
Sarah Piette and her husband Joseph Theodule Atchue (Hetu)
Angeline and her husband Joseph Pluff.
Nelson (Narcisse) Piette and Fannie Pluff married 1868 in Grafton, MA. I found the Marriage of Sarah and Theodule Hetu in 1855 Dunham, Quebec also found the Piette family in the 1851 Census in Dunham. I have not found Michel's baptism, it could be anywhere in the Dunham area in the 1840's.(Also do not rule out Vermont) There were not many Catholic churches in that area. I did find Narcisse in 1842 St. George de Noyan. And Sarah in 1836 in Ste. Elisabeth, Joliette, Quebec. There are other children, but I could not find their baptism either.
Michel's parents are Pierre Piette and Josephte Belanger.
Her name could have been confused as Rosie and should have been Josie, unless she also went by Rose.

Pierre Piette (Pierre & Josephte Branconnier)
1st marriage on 07 Jul 1810 Ste. Elisabeth, Joliette, PQ
to LEVESQUE, Agathe
2nd marriage on 08 Nov 1830 Ste. Elisabeth, Joliette, PQ to BELANGER, Josephte (Joseph and Marguerite Plouffe)

Thanks
David
(not related to Piette family)

I believe that Marie Daigle (wife of Mitchel Piette-dit-Lafreniere) was the daughter of Michel Daigle and Louise Bouvier. (Louise Bouvier is living with Michel and Marie and their family on the 1881 Census of St-Ours, Richelieu.)
Michel Daigle had a sister Marguerite Daigle, (b. 22 Sep 1800, St-Ours)one of 18 children born to Francois Daigle and Marguerite Benoit. Marguerite Daigle married Joseph Girouard 5 Oct 1818. If "Marguerite Girouard" is the married name of the woman who adopted Michel Piette-Lafrenier, then Marie Daigle married the adopted son of her aunt. I wondered whether they might have married in the U.S. due to parental disapproval. Was Michel really his name? Could the names of parents given on the marriage record be incorrect?
Have you tried to find Michel Piette-Lafrenier and/or Marguerite Girouard on the 1851 or 1861 canada census? (There is no 1851 census for St-Ours on Ancestry.) If you could find Joseph and Marguerite Girourard in 1861, you might find their adopted son's name.
You could try the film from LDA Family History Library:
1861 Census QUEBEC Richelieu (parishes of St.-Aimé and St.-Marcel, village of St.-Ours, and parishes of St.-Ours, St.-Robert, St.-Roche, and St.-Pierre) FHL US/CAN Census Area 517413.
Note: I have info about a Metis connection in the Piette-dit-Lafreniere line. Write me at mrisby(at)comcast.net

I see what you mean about a brick wall. After several hours of searching, I found no match for a Michel Piette dit Lafreniere who was the son of a Pierre and a Rose. I did find a Pierre Piette married to a Genevieve Desrosiers-Lafreniere on 7 Feb 1842 at Ste-Elizabeth, Joliette county. They had a son Pierre 17 Aug 1842. No Michel found.
There was also a Pierre Desrosiers-Lafreniere married to Rose Durand 2 Jan 1843 at St-Felix-de-Valois. Their first child was M. Clarisse, b. 30 Oct 1843 at St-Felix. Rose Durand died 11 May 1844, and her widower, Pierre Desrosiers-Lafreniere married Genevieve Laroque (or Larocque) 20 May 1845. None of the above appear to have had a son Michel.
Hmmm... see next message...

The family line of Piette-dit-Lafrenière originates with Antoine Piet-dit-Fresnière, born 24 Mar 1673, son of Jean Piet-dit-Trempe and Marguerite Chemereau. Marguerite Chaumereau died 14 September 1715 and was buried the next day at Sorel. At the division of her estate, her sons' names are given as Pierre Piette dit Trempe, Antoine Pierre dit Fresnière, and Jean Piette dit Courville. Jean Piet-dit-Tremp died 17 Feb 1730 at Berthier-en-Haut. I belong to the Piette-dit-Lafreniere line. The beginnings of this family are featured in "Our French-Canadian Ancestors, Volume XIV, by Thomas J. Laforest, beginning on p. 163.
If you can provide a bit more information about your Mitchel/Michel and/or his parents, I may be able to locate birth records for them. Was Mitchel born in the U.S. or Canada? Approximately when? Do you have names of any of Mitchel and Mary's children? More clues would be helpful.
I am looking for information on Mitchel(Michel) Piette dit Lafreniere married to Mary Daigle.I have the Daigle line but very little on the Lafreniere line.Their marriage record
states Mitchels parents as Michel and Rose. No maiden name for Rose.Family story is that the family was from Three Rivers in Quebec. That Mitchel was orphaned at a very young age and adopted by Marguerite Girard or Girouard.DNA testing shows Metis blood line.Closest birth date is 1847.
Also would like to find Lafreniere genealogy book.
PIATT mailing list from Rootsweb

Greetings!

My name is Christine, and I am the list keeper for the PIATT surname mailing list from Rootsweb. Yes, the list is spelled PIATT, but it is designed to encompass any spelling of the name.

Many PIATT, PYOTT, PYEATTE, or PYATT lines in the U.S. or Canada can be traced back to the same common ancestor, Rene who migrated from France in the 1600s. There are several very knowledgable folks on the mailing list--some have been reaseacrhing PIATT (&c) lines for decades. Please join us and we may be able to help each other.

To subscribe, send an email to
PIATT-L-REQUEST@rootsweb.com
with only the word
subscirbe
in the message. You will receive a welcome message if all goes well, including instructions about how to post & how to unsubscribe or change to 'digest mode'. It's free & easy to use. It's a great idea to send a message introducing yourself and your research interests to the list to PIATT-L@rootsweb.com after you've subscribed.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me!

Thanks, and good luck,
Christine in Lexington

Unfortunately I don't have they birth nor death dates. If your relatives were from Belgium we might have a common connection. Please tell me more about your researches and I could ask my cousin who is residing in Belgium to find out for me.

Brigitte
