Hello Cousin Peggy,

If I can't get you through email then I'll catch you here.

Janet Ariciu (spelling) is a descendant of John Pigg who went to TN (The TN Pigg Family); she told me that her John Pigg is a brother of our James and Sarah Pigg.

Just to repeat, James and Sarah's children had death certificates, I found this in Patrick Co., VA; on the death certificates, it lists Sarah as Sarah Ratcliff(e) on their childrens death certificates; it also has James in Patrick Co., VA and it lists Sarah Ratcliffe-Pigg as in Patrick Co., VA. The problem with this is that not one person can find any information on our James Pigg in Patrick Co., VA.

After doing some research, and I realize I'm not on the same level as you are, I also came to the conculsion that our James Pigg was connected to Paul Pigg's family, through William and Mary. But seeing it here, how does one confirm this?

Before going to Virginia to dig through the courthouse, I was hoping to prove just what you were saying...that the James Pigg you mentioned was our James. But....every record for our James shows his age such that he was born around 1788...within a year either way. The odds of all of those census records, death records, etc. being wrong is too much to overcome. Also...the James you mentioned married someone else and had a family. And lived and died in Virginia, from what I could find. So...I believe that is a dead end. I still believe there has to be a tie-in to the Paul Pigg family...I just haven't found it yet. I achieved one goal of our trip, though...I had my husband take my picture next to the sign marking the Pigg River.
;-)

Juanita,

I've been thinking a lot about our James Pigg, I know he had a brother John Pigg, who went to TN and married there. Janet: John Pigg is her ancestor, John is a brother to our James Pigg. I really think our James was born earlier than 1788. Paul Pigg had a son James Pigg and he had a son James Pigg, I think born 1767, could that James be our James' father? I really do think our James is tied somehow to Paul Pigg's family. Wasn't part of Patrick County given to Henry County, VA? I think I will look there for a James Pigg and Sarah.

Yes...William Jefferson Pigg's parents, James Pigg and Sarah Ratcliffe Pigg, were born in Patrick County, according to family data. However, I have been to the courthouse in Patrick Co., VA, and while there is a James Pigg listed, the dates are all wrong for this James Pigg. So...I've hit a dead end there. If you have info that can fill the gaps, that would be great!

Hello PM,

This is Carolyn Pigg. Our James Pigg married Sarah Ratcliffe and had many children. Our James Pigg is the son of James Pigg and Sarah. Our James had a brother John Pigg who went to TN and married there, I think.

For a long time everyone had our James Pigg married to Sarah Goble. But their children's death certificates has Sarah Ratcliffe. James lived in Lawrence County, KY. But, if I recall correctly he was blacksmith?? and he could also be found in Floyd Co., KY.

I have a large document on them if you want to see it, please email me at tenderfoot1954@yahoo.com

I wonder if we might have a connection? I haven't been researching for awhile so am a little rusty until I read through my files again. ...But
..... I am a PIGG descendant x2. I believe they once lived in Patrick County, VA. I see, from reading your posts here, some familiar names and locations as well. It would be interesting to see if we connect.
Regards, PM
Hi Juanita,

This is Carolyn Pigg, cousin of Peggy, you, and others.

I have several of James and Sarah's children's death certificates.

On those death certificates it has James in Patrick Co and Sarah in Patrick Co.

However, Sarah is not a Goble, unless her middle name was Goble or a relative was a Goble.

On those death certificates, it lists her name as Sarah Ratcliff(e).

I use to think that James' father was also a James, but I think we should look for a John Pigg, too.

It's amazing to me that not one person in this huge family does not know who our James' mother and father were.

As far as I know, the John and Jane family, should have something on our James. It's almost like he never existed.

In Clay County, there was a Sarah Pigg listed on one of the census records. Did James and Sarah divorce and went their own way? I've never research a divorce on James and Sarah, but there must have been something there.

There is another family in the upper North-Eastern part of US and they are John and Jane Chipperfield; I contacted the person who keeps that site and he said they have to be the same family. I don't know if they are all the same people or not, but it's strange that there are two groups: John and Jane Shipingfield-Pigg and the other family is John and Jane Chipperfield-Pigg.

Hi Frankie Jill,

I posted some information on Mamaw and Papaw on this site.
I so wish we could all get together sometime. I remember you and Sheila and Marta, when you all were so little. Mamaw and Papaw were very loving with their grandchildren, and they were always thrilled when any of us visited them.

I do have to say that Mamaw and Papaw, sometimes, did not look forward to Aunt Betty and Uncle Sammie visiting though. Aunt Betty and Betty Cheryl were screamers. Lisa, Sam Jr., and Steve were opposite, they were very quite. Please don't tell anyone I said that, but it's the truth.

When Betty Cheryl and I were both in Seco visiting, we stopped at the little store in Seco, Papaw gave us some money to buy The Beatles wallet; the people who owned that store (Adams), said (to Betty Cheryl)you must be Robbie's cousin; I spoke up and said Mr. Adams I'm Robbie's cousin, Betty Cheryl is Robbie's half sister. Betty Cheryl was livid. She never spoke to me after that and she made her dad come and get her. She is a very tough person and isn't one of those kissy...kissy kind of person. To tell you the truth, I looked more like Robbie in the face than Betty Cheryl, except Robbie had black hair and I had blonde.

Robbie's dad, Sammie Elmo Pigg, Sr. married twice. His first wife, I can't recall her name, they had Robbie. Then Sammie married Aunt Betty and they had Betty Cheryl, Sam Jr., Steve, and Lisa.

Uncle Jimmy is still living, but is in really bad health. I don't expect him to live much longer. Ida Mae is taking care of him at her home.

When Uncle Jimmy die's that is the last of Mamaw and Papaw's children.

Do you remember them at all? Papaw's dad "Samuel Mallory Pigg was born in Kentucky, he married Judith Ratliff, he moved his family to Louisville for awhile, I think Pleasant Ridge Township, then they moved to Joplin Missouri, where Papaw was born in 1893. Mamaw was born in 1903 in Johnson County, Kentucky. William and Dulceny lived on a houseboat in Virginia for some time. I believe all of Papaw's brother are dead now. Papaw was married prior to marrying Mamaw. I will have to look up her name because I can't remember it right now. Papaw fought in WWII,I have his painting, it is beginning to crack and I need to have it restored. The mother of his daughter died, and while Papaw was fighting in WWII, her grandmother left Kentucky with Papaw's daughter. It took him years to find his daughter; she lived somewhere in the upper western part of Ohio.

She came to Papaw's funeral and I was stunned when I saw her, because she looks just like Papaw!! I just remembered that Uncle Bobby Hooper would know Papaw's daughter's name, so I'll have to call him.

You mentioned that you would like to know about Mamaw's name.....Frank Jill, your Mom could tell you about her....did Aunt Carol die? If so, why did'nt someone let us know. I loved your Mom so much.

I truly wish you and your sisters could have known them like I did.

On the down side, Mamaw and Papaw had there problems. Sometimes they would go for months without talking.

I asked Mamaw about her grandmother, Mary May, and I asked her if their was Native American in her family and she said no. But, I also asked my Dad if there was Native American in their family and he said absolutely. I guess Mamaw was ashamed of her Native American Ancestry. Mamaw didn't have a great life growing up, especially with her father William Canada Senters; he was very mean and abusive. I have always wondered if great-grandmother "Dulceny" died from a blow to her head; she died of a Cerebral Hemmorage; Uncle Bobby Hooper said he would hit on Dulceny. Dulceny was a very loving great-grandmother.

Our little Charlie died in 1982, fell and broke his neck; Tammie died in 1985 from multiple blood cancers, Daddy died in 2003, he was at Hospice and they just let him die, and Mommy died July 4, 2008, because her doctor did a colonoscopy on her and he wasn't suppose to do that procedure, he was only suppose to clean her stomach out. Mom had problems digesting her food so her food woud ball up..called Bezores and he was only suppose to break the Bezores up and suck the food out of her stomach.

I will probably be the next one to go, I'm 55 years old now. Jackie isn't little any more, she's gained some weight; Whitney, Jackie's daughter graduated from Xavier and is looking for a better job. Whitney has a Rat Terrier named Chase and she also has a Great Dane named Stormy, she's only 4 months old and already weighs 75 pounds. I can't even imagine who big Stormy will get.

Love Carolyn

Hi Sweetheart,

Oh I am so happy you posted here!!!

Papaw Pigg's name was James Tilden Pigg, son of Samuel Mallory Pigg and Judith Ratliff, some called her Jo Edith.

Samuel Mallory Pigg was the son of James M. Pigg and Frances Jordan.

James M. Pigg was the son of James Pigg and Sarah Ratcliffe.

Mamaw Pigg's name was Ida Centers/Senters, her parents were William Canada Senters/Centers and Dulceny Clifton, some called great-grandmother Dulceny as (Dicey and some called her Dulcie). Great-grandmother was a wonderful, sweet, and loving person. She died at Whitesburg Hospital, in Whitesburg, Kentucky...just a few minutes from Seco. She died from a cerebral hemmorage; Great-grandfather William Canada Senters/Centers was not a nice man, he was very mean and none of us children were ever allowed around him. William married three times; I think his first wife was named Jane; he married second our great-grandmother Dulceny Clifton; he married the third time another Jane. William Canada was part Native American and his profile is just like the Indian Head Nickle. William died just 2 weeks short of being 102 years old. Our family is of mixed heritage, known as Melungeon, which is a mix of races.

William Canada Senters/Centers is the son of George Senters/Centers and Mary May. Our great-great grandmother Mary May was Native American. I have a photo of her that Uncle Bobby Hooper sent to me. Mamaw Pigg only had two siblings: Mamaw's sister is our great-Aunt Maxie; and Mamaw had only one brother, Taylor Senters/Centers. Papaw died in 1974, and mamaw died on Christmas Day 1978.

As for the house, it is no longer there. Robbie was suppose to take care of the house, but he didn't do so.

I would give anything to have that house back...I loved it so much. I spent all my summers there with them, until I granduated from High School; Mamaw would talk about all of you and she and papaw loved you girls so much.

Robbie doesn't live in Kentucky anymore. I guess he and Linda divorced and he had another woman living with him; they are/were suppose to get married; they live somewhere in Virginia now. Sam Jr.'s son died from suicide; it was such a devastating blow to Sam Sr.

We are related to the Adkins, Jordans, Parkers and Powell's of Virginia. Through them we are descendants of Shawnee Chief Cornstalk and we are also related to Tecumseh. Our Boling Baker married Chief Cornstalk's daughter Aracoma and they had several children. Chief Cornstalk lived in Logan County, West Virginia, the same area as the "Moth Man" and a lot of people who live there believe "Moth Man" is the spirit of Chief Cornstalk.

I also have Native American through my Benjamin BOLLING, who was part Native American. When I started researching ancestry I never could have immagined there was so much Native American in us. Some of my other ancestors who have NA in them is the Sizemores, Roberts, Brocks,etc....too many to list.

I lost my telephone book and I haven't been able to contact anyone. I just can't figure out what happened to it.

Mommy died July 3, 2008 after the doctor punctured her colon; he wasn't even suppose to do a colonoscopy on Mom; I still cry every day..I miss her so much.

Daddy died April 17, 2003.

Mom and Dad are buried together at the Dayton National Cemetery, Dayton, Ohio.

Tammie's son, Chris, has Muscular Dystrophy and is deterioating, slowly.

Please email me sometime and let me know how everyone is doing. Is Aunt Carol doing alright? and what about your sisters? are they doing alright?

Jackie's daughter graduated from Xavier University earlier this year. We are so proud of her. Xavier is in the same league as Princeton and Harvard. Whitney's dream is to become a Marine Biologist.

Tell everyone I love them.

My Email is: tenderfoot1954@yahoo.com

When I can afford it, I will make some copies of photos of Mamaw and Papaw for all of you.

Love Carolyn

John Madison Pigg 1846-1927

John Madison Pigg was my mother's great-grandfather (Julia Pigg, Frances Dudgeon, Bertha Hanson (Hicks), me). I've read that my grandfather learned of the plight of the Mormons and escorted them across the state of Missouri safely. My mother tells me that he also drove a stage coach and was a pony express rider. Does anyone have information to substantiate any of this? Does anyone have photos?

Thanks much -- Donna Hanson (Hanson/Barrie/Hicks/Dudgeon Family)

Hi, Wiley: Just wanted to say that Sarah Goble should really be shown as Sarah Ratcliffe. LDS showed Goble, but her son's (my great grandfather-Willliam Jefferson Pigg) death certificate, as well as the book The History of Kentucky, her last name wasn't Goble...it was Ratcliff(e).

Juanita Pigg Hahn

Hi Juanita,

I probably had my words turned around. I believe William Jefferson was born in Floyd County, Kentucky. The death certificate just had the information about James Pigg and Sarah Ratcliffe/Ratliff. I'm sure you are correct that he died in Lawrence Co., KY. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks,
Carolyn

Dear icpastor:

I am related to this family. My James Pigg lived in Lawrence County, Kentucky. He married Sarah Ratcliff(e), not Sarah Goble. For years we thought her maiden name was Goble; but I found a death certificate for their son William Jefferson Pigg and it clearly has James Pigg, Patrick County, Virginia and Sarah Ratcliff(e), Patrick County, Virginia.

I don't have much on this family, but I wonder if you or someone else could share some information on them, with me. It would be so appreciated.

Sincerely, Carolyn Pigg

My grandfather James Tilden Pigg was born in MO. But, his father and grand-father lived in Lawrence and Floyd Counties, KY.

I wish I could help, I did do a couple of searches and came up with nothing.
Hi Billie,

ALL the Pigg Family in America, of all spellings, including Pike, Pique, etc descend from four or five brothers who came from England in the early 1600's. They left England because of Cromwell, etc.

I have the document by WB Pigg. His wife finished the document after her husband died.

One of the brothers, John Pigge, married a woman by the name of Jane Chipperfield. For years everyone thought her maiden name was Shipingfield. So, all the Pigg's are related. One funny thing about the name Pigg/Pigge/Pigott, etc, is Brad Pitt, that name also belongs in the category Pigg/Pigge, etc. Wonder if he knows that. Some were so ashamed of the name that they had their name changed. And that's ok, but that also leads to problems for families trying to find their ancestors. In Northern Kentucky, there use to be a police officer with the last name Pigg, he had it changed. That's sad, because I love my last name. Feel free to email me anytime. My email is tenderfoot1954@yahoo.com

Sincerely, Carolyn Pigg

This James Pigg that married Mary Neely is not the same one that was tried for murder and dead before the 1850 census. Mary Neely's husband lived on after that, so definitly not the same guy even if they were born near the same year.

The newspaper "Madison Whig Advocate" published April 4, 1840 and sent to me by J. Smith (Genealogy Librarian at Madison County Library System) mentions a 160 acre parcel owned by James Pigg that was auctioned off in a Marshall Sale "levied on as the property of defendant Pigg and will be said to satisfy the above state case".
Madison Whig Advocate" November 21, 1840 "The court has changed the venue in the case of James Pigg indicted for the murder of W.J. Norment to Rankin county. Pigg applied for the change of venue upon the legal ground that he would not obtain a fair and impartial trial in this county" The Whig Advocate went out of business before the trial and Rankin county courthouse was burned during the civil war, thus no record. However this trail of James Pigg might be picked up by doing land research for instance there was a Bureau of Land Management Website that has 8 parcels owned by a James Pigg in both Madion and Hinds county going from 1829 to 1840. (See attached file) There is a 160 acre parcel bought by James in 1832. You can print the actual deed copys from the website. And the only document that I felt (not proven) linked this James to Mary (maiden name unknown) Pigg whom I believe to be my Cherokee ancestor, was a land record where she signed with an X as wife of James Pigg. Definitly not proof by any genealogical standards. Sorry that I cannot scan and attach those news articles. They were so faded that the librarian had to hand write what they said because they were too faded to read the copy. Linda did you see my post on World Connect Roots Web? id elisa8094 I think. Your husband is a distant cousin. Which child of Augustus is he descended from? I'm from his daughter "Gussie". Elisa

I have posted an exerpt from a book on James Pigg's page om Ancesty.com. It follows the information that you gave me.

One thing that puzzles me is I keep finding information stating James was married to Mary Neely and they had a daughter born around 1820. Could that have been the oldest child?

David is my husbands GG Grandfather. His mother and father passed away along time ago so I am getting most of my help from his Aunt.

I'll look on World Connect Roots Web for info also. Feel free to look at my tree.
I may be wrong in the spelling. My Grandfather never talked about his family very much. My computer crashed and I lost everything I had on the family. I did have a lot of it printed out, but haven't been doing much for a few years. I've moved back home to Ridgely, TN, had a heart attach last Dec. and just haven't got back into genealogy. Seeing that you had a good bit posted makes my want to get to work on it now. I've done a lot on my Mother's family and my Daddy's Mother. I'm going to try and start again. Hope you don't mind if I copy the work that you've done.
Thanks so much.
Billie "Pigue" Simmons
