I am also related to Peter Piker. His son, John Peter Piker, who married Mary Alice Richards after his first wife, Sarah Elizabeth Anderson died. John Peter would be my great grandfather. My grandfather was William Duncan Piker. Mary Alice was my grandfather's mother.
William Duncan Piker went to the war and when he got out, in his late 20's, the war messed him up and he later shot and killed John Peter Piker and injured two of his brothers. He died in Nov. 1977.
I met grandpa William Duncan when he came home in the 1970's. He was a short round fat bellied man who was balding or had very short hair one, and when he spoke it was a whisper and you could not hardly hear him. He was so nice though and I was glad to have known him. He smiled a lot and used to smoke cigars until he nearly burned the house down. My brother Darrell Piker was told to tell him that they stopped making cigars. However, my brother would sneak him some on special occasions.
My grandmother Piker who was Isabel Mary VanWinkle Piker, said her maiden name was VanWinkle and her mother was an Anderson. The Pikers did not stay close after the death of John Peter. My dad did not grow up associating with the Piker's even though he was a Piker and they lived in the same town. However, Dad was able to get to know them later on in his life. I got to know some of the Piker relatives in school though. Also I met some of Grandpa's sisters before they died.
My father was Lenard Duncan Piker, who was two when my grandfather shot his father. My own father, Lenard, died in November 2001, a few months after the 9/11 tragedy. Dad lived in Bradford, Arkansas.
Violet Piker was married to one of the Piker's and had a lot of children. I knew the last three, Shirley, John and Dwight. Their father had a gob of children by his first wife then married Violet. He and Violet had about 18 children together. I remember Shirley, John and Dwight saying they would not even know their own full brother and sisters when they would come to visit as they left home when they were very young.
Violet was a wonderful woman, so kind hearted and such a hard worker. They lived at Piker's Lane near Denmark. It was just land and they had a trailer home on it. Is that where John Peter and Mary Alice lived?
Does anyone know who Peter Piker's parents were? I know he came over here with his wife Elizabeth and both were German immigrants. I would like to get more information regarding where they lived in Germany and who their relations were there and who Elizabeth's parents were and her maiden name.
