PILGER

Sara Meyers: You have several names in your PILGERS that click with some of mine, i.e. John, Yohan (Johann) Amelia, Ernst, Laura. My first PILGERS I have from Babenhausen, GER. is Ernest, son of Martin and Margaretha [Monat]. Ernst m. Philippine [Katzenberger] daughter of Caspar & Christina [Willard]. They had 7 children: Jacob (b. 10 Mar. 1817), Adam (b. 13 Aug. 1822, Maria Christina (b.15 Aug. 1827), Dorothea (b. 17 Oct. 1831), Maria Dorothea (b. 22 Jan. 1834. There were two others listed: Philippina (b 8 June 1799.& Anna Katarine (b.14 June 1844). I think the Philippina was the birth date of Ernst's wife - not a daughter. Then there are other PILGERS; Martin Pilger, shoemaker m/ Margaretha Monatin they had one son, Christoph Ernst, b 28 Dec. 1791. The other name is LOHREY; Adam Lohrey of Elbenrad, GER. m.Anna Maria [Scharch} from Kestrich. They married in Alsfeld, GER., May 30, 1829 They had a daughter Laura who married PILGER (she was my great grandmother) and they lived in ILL in the 1860's. I think that is enough for now! Hope this fits with your PILGERS.

Hello Pilgers!
My grandfathers name was Clarence Pilger. I never met the man as he and my grandmother, Kathreine (Kate) divorced when my father, Francis, the younger of two children born to the couple was a tot. Francis has a brother (still living) named Walter.
Walter lives in Wisconsin. My father, Francis, recently deceased, lived in Illinois. I don't know if both Walter and Francis were born in Illinios? I do know that Francis was. Clarence may have re-married? I do not know what year he was born? I would guess it to be circa; 1900-1910? Francis was born 1-21-31. I am the eldest daughter of four to Francis. My sisters and I would like to know our relatives. Father didnt know of his father and fathers family. We would like to put an end to that ignorance and find our "roots." If anyone is able to fit some of the puzzle pieces together for us we'd certaintly appreciate it!

Margaretta Schibinger

My great -grandmother, Margaretta Schibinger - married Peter Pilger (d. 1906)She was the daughter of MARGARETTA SCHIBINGER (NEE HOWIE) and Unknown Schibinger. The only children I know the names of are Elisabetta (my grandmother) and her sister Gertrude and Brother Johann, who were born to Margaretta Pilger (nee Schibinger) They were from a family of twelve children. In a Becisherecul-mic Roman Catholic Church document FRANZ SCHIBINGER is listed from Biled (Krottendorf) Sorry I do not have any information about the family of the first Margaretta - I could ask my elderly aunt if she remembers talk of any of her mother's aunts, uncles or great aunts and uncles but there is nothing in the literature she gave to us other than the document from the church which is in german script which we can't read.

Pilger Family

Doris, Thank you for your reply and offer of help. My grandmother, Elizabeth Pilger only told us the names of two of her siblings, Johann (Hans) and Gertrude. The locales of Lovrin, Biled, Krottendorf and Becischericul-mic are mentioned in family documents. They are difficult to "read" because of the fancy script and the German language. I am thinking that anywhere in the Alps could constitute close enough proximity to think there could be some connection. Or perhaps it is back another generation since there is some indication that our Pilger relatives relocated to this general area about 1776. My email is whoever@incentre.net. Thanks!

Hi Marcie,
My grandmother is Mary Pilger (Broer) of Rochester, NY and was your John's sister. I am so glad to find another person who in the family. This is a hard family to trace. I have copies of census records: 1900 NJ Gloucester
Pilger, John b 2/1867 in PA
his wife was Susan (McKloskey) from Ireland
children: Frances 1/1892 NJ
John W 10/1883 NJ (your grandfather)
Mary E 10/1884 NJ Broer moved to Rochester,NY
Milford F 9/1897 NJ
mother: Mary E 8/1835 NY

1910 NJ Census:
Pilger, Susan 39
Mary E 15
George 7

Who is Phillip? The only Pilgers who were in the Rochester area, that I know of, was my grandmother Mary and my dad's uncle George. My family was from Rochester, NY. I know my aunt Dorothy Broer Brunette was in contact with her cousins in NJ. I believe they were the children of Frances Pilger Smith. Please write me an e-mail and we can continue this.

Thanks,
Jackie
My cousin (the last of her generation and Great-granddaughter of (Georg) Anton and Katharine Kunkle Pilger told me that John went to the California wine country and with that info and a record of his pension application, I was able to find that he was buried in the National Cemetery in San Francisco. Anton Katharine were still living in 1870, according to the census of Jackson Twp., Ohio.
