I have a Y-DNA surname project running on both Ancestry and FTDNA which includes the name Pilon and other similarly sounding surnames of France, Great Britain and Ireland. One of the goals is to determine if some of these surnames are simply variants of each other or if they are independent (i.e they are similar through chance convergence or other considerations). As Pilons have spread, primarily to Canada, this is also an opportunity to identify which lines are related to each other and those still in France.
