My interest in PINKNEY comes from the fact that it ties into an affilated line of mine, GAUTIER. One Emma Louise SIDELL, daughter of Cornelius Low and Eliza GAUTIER SIDELL, married John Michals PINKNEY on Oct 22 1877 in Manhattan, New York. They had two sons; Cornelius SIDELL (b. Apr 02 1879, d. Jan 19 1921) and Townsend (b. Feb 09 1881, d Dec 07 1937). Both sons, like their father, were sucessful lawyers in NYC. Cornelius married Sophia PIEL. She was a daughter of Gottfried PIEL, a German immigrant and one of the original founders of Piel's Brewery in Brooklyn. Their marriage ended in divorce, and Cornelius never re-married. Townsend married Josephine Charlotte BROWN. Neither brother produced any children.
I have a few vital records of this branch of the PINKNEY family, which led me to visit Kensico Cemetery at Valhalla, Westchester County, New York. The PINKNEY plot contains a landmark monument of the cemetery. It is an immense, triangular structure surrounded by smaller headstones. The monument consists of beautiful rose marble. I visited Kensico, and did inscriptions as well as digital photos of the plot. Here's what I have in my notes:
